It’s true, people don’t have to be perfect to do good for others.

Take Jimmy Saville for example. He raised about £40 million for charity.

SweetSakura · 07/08/2022 19:50

I definitely don't think Jack Monroe is "bad". She's certainly been a strong voice on some important issues.

I just think she needs a major intervention - either she is catastrophic with money or she is caught up in a web of lies, probably a mixture of both.

Scianel · 07/08/2022 20:31

I think she's a raging narc.

If not bad, how would you describe conning people out of money?

@Cloud9isnowclosed she was in firefighter training which will have included how fires spread and protocol.

She broke up with a partner in the last few months, that is what precipitated the recent money issues - going from paying 50% of rent to all of it.

She split up with the partner (who she rented the house with) in 2020, that’s why people are confused why she hasn’t moved before now. The recent partner she split with didn’t live with her.

SweetSakura · 07/08/2022 21:10

@HellaFitzgerald oh the behaviour is awful. But whether it was deliberately exploitative or stems from mental health problems /personality disorder/self deception I don't know.

She worked in the control room. She wasn't in firefighter training, although from her disgusting blog about Grenfell, you might be forgiven for thinking that.

She was with her last partner for approx. 5 months. I doubt they were paying 50% of her rent or even that they were living together (and for the sake of her son, I hope they weren't).

JubileeTrifle · 07/08/2022 22:20

She can’t meet the minimum requirements to be a firefighter as she can’t drive or swim (information she has shared numerous times).

Bibbetyboo · 08/08/2022 00:02

I think comparing someone to Jimmy Savile has to be a new variant of Godwin’s law.

Seriously. That’s an utterly ridiculous thing to imply.

Bibbetyboo · 08/08/2022 00:04

On firefighting, this is what I was referring to. I don’t know anything about the requirements. I haven’t read the Grenfell post.

This. Her behaviour has all the hallmarks of it.

As a pp said, she wouldn't have met the requirements so assume it's another somewhat creative post.

Cloud9isnowclosed · 08/08/2022 07:42

She wasn't a firefighter despite her attempts to portray herself as one.

nokitchen · 08/08/2022 08:05

It's been interesting watching this unfold. Lots of markers of narcissistic behaviour. I do feel for her son having to live with a mother who has put her whole life on twitter.

I don't think he lives with her much of the time thankfully. His dad is his stable presence.

Hmmm given she claims not to be able to drive or swim seems there might be more untruths here.

I do think it’s awful to pretend to be poor, not just poor but desperately poor, and to beg money from strangers who often can’t afford it. Even if she does campaign on poverty, the fact that she has designer scarves and original Tracey Emins and supportive wealthy parents while claiming to be poor completely discredits the message.

Clymene · 08/08/2022 08:20

Yep, she made out he's mainly with her but that's not true, there was some guff about an hour and a half round trip to get him to school but that's because he goes to school local to his Dad so she had that journey once a week.
The latest stuff about moving to a one bed flat and she'll have to sleep on the couch, same thing, he's not there full time.

Rollingdownland · 08/08/2022 09:56

Anyone follow Icod on Twitter? It seems she's either been thrown off Twitter or voluntarily closed her accout, apparently because of the spat that followed her retweeting the rinsed hoops recipe.

JM's followers are a weird sect, like those followers of eg Bhagwan that you see documentaries about on Twitter. They literally idolise her and will not see her obvious lies and inconsistencies.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/08/2022 10:01

They are weird. Twitter is 90% taking the piss out of stuff, why should JM's recipes be exempt?

I think they had to close it. I just saw few people discussing it on twitter as well.

I guess it's nkt ok to point out that washing away half of your meal (because the sauce is half the tin) is ridiculous 🤷🏻

It's frightening what is happening to free speech in our country before our eyes. Free speech is vital to protect democracy against tyranny, but it is being eroded every day. It's terrifying.

This sums it up: www.spiked-online.com/2022/08/06/how-the-woke-left-learned-to-love-big-brother/

JubileeTrifle · 08/08/2022 10:19

She is very very lucky how silent her sons dad is. Most of her followers seem to think she is a single parent.

She recently had a short relationship where she said she had ‘multiple miscarriages’. It’s stuff like this that makes me believe she doesn’t care about other people posting stuff like that.

BlossomsOnATree · 08/08/2022 10:22

I think comparing someone to Jimmy Savile has to be a new variant of Godwin’s law.
Seriously. That’s an utterly ridiculous thing to imply.

i thought it was an important comparison in view of the fact that JM’s defenders keep saying she does good work and so shouldn’t be criticised.

The point is that someone who does good and helps others can also do bad things, and that shouldn’t be ignored for the sake of putting them on a pedestal.

A comparison points out something that is similar or parallel between two different things. Comparing this situation to Jimmy Saville does not mean anyone is saying that JM is as bad as Jimmy Saville or guilty of the same crimes. Just that there are clear cases of people who “do good” being far from perfect in other ways. Savile is a really extreme example but that’s why it gets the point across.

Why do so many people think comparing or pointing out parallels between two things means you’re saying they’re exactly the same? Does my nut in!

Bibbetyboo · 08/08/2022 10:39

@BlossomsOnATree because you equated them without more.

It’s all a complete straw man. People are not 100% one thing or the other.

If a complaint is limited to ‘I disagree with the way that someone has done something’ or I think they are dishonest most people tend to leave it at that. Not create books online about them (I discovered the tattle etc threads via this thread) or go on online rants about them.

It’s not really a normal reaction to something that plenty of writers do (apply some licence to what they write and how they present themselves). Most people would just stop at I don’t like that person/ don’t rate them.

The fact that people have such seething rage about it suggests other issues at play - and some of them might be to do with isms. Or they might be out of feeling for the ‘genuine’ poor being hard done by (but then I would still say your anger is misdirected, target it to politicians who can change things).

I saw Jamie Oliver at a live event once where he was really rude and patronising to a camera woman who was just doing her job and it seemed like her only offences were catching him on a bad day and not being as attractive as the women that JO was pulling up from the audience. It totally changed my view of him and I thought that his salt of the earth persona was just that - a character to achieve his job aims. But I haven’t created any massive threads about it or examined the rest of his life…
