It's all meant to be a big Tory conspiracy, but I also questioned Rishi Sunak's finances (on here) when his morally dubious tax arrangements were exposed.

I just want her claims backed up with verifiable evidence and the contradictions, from her own posts, explained.

On that note it’s interesting that she claims to have several disabilities, as well as other protected characteristics, and other personal circumstances that are seen as disadvantageous (calls herself a single parent but co-parents with her son’s dad). She’s collecting the kind of identities that encourage people to support her.
It was a bit odd when she suddenly announced she was trans. Predictably there was a lot of applause, but it wasn’t at all clear what she meant. Then she said NB, which at least made some sense. It really did look like another identity to add to her collection.

I am genuinely scratching my head at the threats to sue. Who is she going to sue? Herself for talking inconsistent shite? The whole of twitter for taking the piss out of her rinsed spaghetti hoops recipe?

She's wasted so much energy and opportunity on messy Twitter spats.

Telling the world that you're nearly destitute again after lots of book deals is selling the story that there is no end to tinned peach curry and rinsing spaghetti hoops.

People need hope.

I was aware she had suggested buying baked beans as a cheap way to get hold of haricot beans, washing off the sauce so you could just use the haricot beans for something else. That makes marginally more sense, but still unappealing.

I've actually done this before, it is ok if you need white beans for a recipe when they are going to be in a sauce etc. I needed haricot beans once for a cassoulet recipe and local shop didn't have any so I remembered this tip from MN, it may or may not have originated from Jack Monroe! They tasted fine as part of what was quite a fancy stew!

I've used baked beans in stews and chillis, but I just chuck the sauce in too. It's just tomato sauce - just reduce the other tomato element a bit.

As a Jewish woman, I am honestly really upset at her lying about antisemitism, and some of her tweets have used antisemitic dog whistle terms.

Last time she threatened to sue (Fox) she got a load of donations to her PayPal account to do it. No mention of it since. Maybe not stupid.

She kept using the word "cabal" (which is a word of Jewish origin and often used as an AS dog whistle), invoked conspiracy theories of "cabals" who are plotting against her in tweets that directly reference Jews and powerful Jews, and has made references to her "Jewish lawyer" using wording that implies that he's powerful and wealthy.

Now to be strictly fair she's not claiming the "cabals" who are plotting against her are Jewish, but the opposite: that these powerful cabals are against her because of her powerful and wealthy Jewish lawyer. But she's explicitly linking Jews with money, Jews with wealth, and Jews with powerful shadow cabals, all of which are known AS tropes.

A tangent but ... don't forget to register your works with ALCS and PLR (the latter is now part of the British Library). I earn a 'few bob' every year from this.

It's very odd that if you do a search of Jack Monroe on Twitter today it comes up with tons of tweets supporting her, and none of the piss-taking ones.

I do get what people are saying about the ridicule of the recipes distracting from the proven dishonesty. But as a formerly poor person (who still lives paycheck to paycheck) I can confirm that when you're really hungry, you would never rinse calories off your food. Not even if you'd had the same flavour for days on end. You just wouldn't 🤷‍♀️

All of this could have been avoided if she hadn't put out the begging thread and just done what everyone else does and work for a living and not piddle around on Twitter.

I reckon 10% of the population know who she is and less than half have any kind of interest. She could easily be a saviour to the ones who care by doing the poverty porn thing but every time she brings her own suffering into it, she gets attacked. I suspect that feeds a victim mentality as well as the tip jar and its a calculated risk. You can bask in the online fawning from fans.

I really do hope she takes a break and someone persuades her to seek support. I refuse to believe she's entirely bad. Few people are.

@Cloud9isnowclosed she was in firefighter training which will have included how fires spread and protocol.

She broke up with a partner in the last few months, that is what precipitated the recent money issues - going from paying 50% of rent to all of it.

People don’t have to be perfect to do good for others.

i find it bizarre that people are so invested. Be less angry about someone getting donations from someone potentially on UC; be more angry about the ridiculously low levels of UC and treatment of people on benefits to the point of suicide.

this is all very misguided.
