Add grated cheese and black pepper without rinsing the sauce off?

Ah yes, but then you can feed four with the rinsed off sauce, a tin of tomatoes and puddle water.
BTW, her tomato soup recipe, made from tomato soup assumes you have a blender and she points out she has a bullet blender.
Annnnnd she's back in her cold shower taking the begging bowl with her

ClaudineClare · 06/08/2022 17:23

I think people need to back off now. JM clearly has some issues and really needs to get off SM, but the abuse being rained down on them is really OTT.

ClaudineClare · 06/08/2022 17:26

I mean people on Twitter need to back off as it has got really nasty over there and gone far beyond taking the piss out of her recipes.

When I had to use the food Bank, I put the cheap curry powder in so much, it lasts forever just using a couple of pinches and changes it up. Including beans etc, felt a bit nicer and like a slightly different meal.

Its fucking madness telling people to wash the flavour and some of the calories away and you can make actual pasta in the microwave to add your cheese and olive oil too or just add your cheese to your unwashed hoops Confused

I also used cheap soap, as is, no need to boil it and my lightbulbs stayed screwed jn because how would you afford to buy garden solar lights to replace your inside lighting, it's all a bit mad, overly dramatic and complicated and seems like how someone at the guardian would dream up poverty rather than the reality the majority of people have experienced.

Yep as regards adding cheese & pepper without washing the sauce (ie flavour) off - and also adding curry powder.

I was a great one for "pasta with stuff", "rice with stuff" potato with stuff", and currying just about everything to give it flavour, when we were on our uppers. Cheap versions of all of these with whatever I was able to scrape up formed most of our meals.

Eggs went a long way, so did cheap sausages (from which you can make meatballs to go with pasta, a casserole and sossidge pie filling) and bacon. Also made my own pizze using a scone base.

It did get quite 😳 from both sides. Tbf I would also not be nice after being called terf for example...

paulmccartneysbagel · 06/08/2022 17:30

The patreon thing - surely those who donate can just cancel their regular payment if they choose? The people that are donating to that are doing it out of choice.

This dog piling is bloody awful in my opinion. It's like an episode of Black Mirror.

True, the thing about people criticising all being transphobes etc. is very incendiary.

I don't wven get why that is thrown around anyway

I've not posted on twitter at all, but if we're talking nasty, taking money from those with very little over a prolonged period of time.
She's cosplayed my life. (Not literally mine, but similar)
It's insulting, it's disgusting and she posted it.

BlossomsOnATree · 06/08/2022 17:49

Bubble it's because she has said she's non-binary and for some this equates to being trans. She has complained about people attacking someone who is "openly non-binary" so she seems to think having this status means she's immune to criticism or that anyone criticising her is doing so because of her being NB/trans rather than on any real basis.

Bubblebubblebah · 06/08/2022 17:50

Oh. Well. Thanks for explaining!

BlossomsOnATree · 06/08/2022 17:58

However I do agree that even wrongly calling people transphobes, making accusations about other chefs, and posting a lot of very inconsistent things, doesn't make twitter bullying OK. I did think discussing the financial inconsistencies and whether her recipes are effective was reasonable, in the circumstances - but I'm worried about a pile-on on her now (even if she does start them!).

If that is the case, then I would agree. BUT it is a shame the Twitter warriors aren't getting stuck into the people who are causing people to live in poverty and who are doing the square root of eff all to tackle the cost of living crisis. JM is small fry, whatever they have or haven't done.

ermagerdabear · 06/08/2022 18:02

Her Twitter is a total bin fire at the the minute. She's needs to put her phone down and go and do something, literally anything, else.

(Unless she finally publishes her Patreon income and then I am here for it).

JanisMoplin · 06/08/2022 18:07

If you have seen The Social Dilemma on Netflix, JM is a perfect illustration. Someone who cannot go even 10 minutes without the dopamine hit of Twitter.

Clymene · 06/08/2022 18:36

It's not either/or @ClaudineClare. I loathe the Tories for running this country into the ground. I won't ever vote for them.

I think what she's doing is worse. I don't care how much money she's made. Actually I hope she's made a bloody fortune. She saw an opportunity, took it and ran with it. Good for her. But she needs to stop pretending she's on the bones of her arse because that makes a lot of people who can't afford much give her money.

And that's not just callous, it's exploitative.

Emotionalsupportviper · 06/08/2022 18:51

Hear, hear, Clymene

She only refunded (so she says) the money the disabled lady gave her from her Winter Fuel Payment because enough people called her out about it on Twitter. Would have kept it without a moments pause if people hadn't.

That's got nothing to do with you though, or anyone else.
She's entitled to be paid for her work.
Nobody's forced to donate.
If you don't want to, you don't have to.

Absolutely. But she is pleading poverty when she has nearly 800 patreon subs and the lowest monthly sub is just under £3. She had had paid sponsorships with loads of high profile brands, has had an almost successful tv career and written several best selling books.

She should be financially secure. Not so desperately poor that she's boiling up a 30p bar of soap because she can't afford 40p shower gel.

And if she's spaffed all that cash up the wall, she's really in no position to be advising others how to live cheaply.

ermagerdabear · 06/08/2022 19:27

Sure, if she actually does something. I don't believe Tweeting is a job though. In the same vein, her Patreon supporters are entitled to the stuff she promised in exchange for their cash.

That's got nothing to do with you though, or anyone else

How do you know I'm not one of her Patreon supporters? Or an ex Patreon supporter who never received anything for my money?

JubileeTrifle · 06/08/2022 19:28

The thing for me is pretending to be poor is just the same as pretending to be ill so people send you money. What if she said she had cancer, would be people be more angry. They shouldn’t be. It’s all emotional blackmail.

The patreon isn’t just about ‘paying for her work’ how many of those people have signed up thinking that they are feeding Jack and her child because they are in dire straights. And I have seen people say they are on UC and sending her money for her and her small boy to buy food, especially when she is doing those frankly ridiculous £20 shops.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 06/08/2022 19:28

You have no idea of her outgoings though, her bills.
Even if you don't approve of how she spends her money, why does that mean she can't or shouldn't give help by sharing recipes /knowledge?

GoodJanetBadJanet · 06/08/2022 19:30

The thing for me is pretending to be poor is just the same as pretending to be ill so people send you money.
You have no idea how much money she does or doesn't have spare at the end of the month though.
