She got a five figure sum for the Hellman's debacle, I believe.
How would you know how much she was paid?
I doubt she was paid in mayonnaise
You doubt. So guesswork then? Even though you state as fact "she got" with no evidence at all to back that up.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 16:48

she could perhaps get a JOB?!
Writing IS a job for some.
Unless you mean a "proper" job, don't creative ones count in your head?
Sounds like something your Uncle Knobhead or elderly gran would say.
Have you got yourself settled with a proper little job yet, dear?!"
🙄
It can be a full time job in itself.

It isn't if it means you have to beg off others on twitter.
It's a hobby if it provides no money whatsoever

scottishgirl69 · 05/08/2022 17:13

Jack is on record as saying she got a five figure sum for the Hellmans gig

why is anyone who criticises JM dismissed as a Tory or a TERF or now an uncle knobhead or (bizarrely) an elderly Gran? The evidence is clear as day should you care to look for it @GoodJanetBadJanet - JM is a grifting nightmare of a person who doesn’t deserve their platform.
Since the AM thread on Twitter Jack has said ‘I COULD go through it line by line and refute it but I WONT’ and then said they are being called out because they’re non-binary and can’t lie because they’re autistic. If you can’t see why that’s so far beyond acceptable, I can’t help you.

fwiw, I try and respect everyone’s pronouns and gender identity (including grifting cunts bc it’s irrelevant to the issue at hand!), I’d love nothing more than for the Tory party to suffer a terrible defeat at the next election and never return, as far as I’m aware I’m not the uncle knobhead of my family and I’m not old enough to be an elderly Gran. I also respect all the autistic people in my life too much to wheel out lazy and harmful stereotypes about them to protect my own arse.

Oh and as for sponsorships, I don't know what it's like for the brands mentioned but I DO know that sometimes when you're asked to advertise products, or endorse them, they pay you in the product 😂
Yes, that's very nice, thank you, I appreciate a hamper with some nice bits of food in it or a pack of pencils, but what about my gas bill that needs paying?! 🤣
Seriously, I honestly think people don't have a clue what they're talking about when they think you must automatically have money.

I think you’re obfuscating.

The main issue isn’t actually how much money JM has or hasn’t got. Perceived affluence can be relative and very subjective. The fact is, she has been well and truly caught out by her own conflicting posts. She’s the one who has pleaded poverty and then grandstanded her latest acquisitions - no one else - and clearly it’s not taken too much digging around to find them.
That shows either incredible arrogance and/or possibly NPD?

She’s then played the, “I suffer with XYZ, so be kind” card. Just because she’s hitched her wagon to the poverty/non binary/ADHD/autism star doesn’t mean she’s exempt from justified criticism.

ermagerdabear · 05/08/2022 17:16

The only evidence I have for that comes from Jack's own mouth and seeing as she's a proven liar, you're absolutely right. Who knows what to trust?!

SweetSakura · 05/08/2022 17:16

@GoodJanetBadJanet you are missing the point. It's almost not relevant what she has /has not been paid. Her own Twitter feed simultaneously pleads poverty alongside other posts demonstrating a remarkably profligate lifestyle. The two don't marry up. You can't be getting an expensive pet dog, a new tattoo and planning multiple trips around the country with your son the same month you are apparently in such dire straits you need to pawn your belongings "again".

JubileeTrifle · 05/08/2022 17:19

She said it was 5 figure so it’s £10,000 to £99,000. I think most people have assumed it’s £10k. People aren’t making this stuff up it comes directly from Jack.

Also if you can’t afford shampoo why would you to a nice salon and get your hair cut? For someone who is ‘embracing the grey’ her hair looked very not grey on the TV the other day, or is she dying it with old teabags or something?

I know people with side jobs (even someone who writes childrens books) who have normal full time jobs. That’s what people do to get by, most people.

JanisMoplin · 05/08/2022 17:20

I write books and have written for papers, including the Guardian and the Telegraph. I get paid for this, but not enough. Therefore, I have a day job. Writing can be a job but Jack doesn't appear to do any. If Jack is not getting paid or is getting paid in mayo or is getting paid so little that she can't afford shower gel, she needs to get a job rather than grift on Twitter. Not sure what is so hard about this. I am sure she is not wealthy, but I doubt she is so poor she hasn't bought shampoo in 3 years.

But you don't know either.

What we do know is from her own tweets. That is what we know. And what we know is that she is a liar and a fantasist who has a different story every few hours. That is what her very own tweets are telling us.

See, this doesn't sit right with me.
So what, if you say you're poor, you have to "show" that you're poor?!
Being self employed is notoriously fickle, some months or even just weeks you'll feel you have loads of money then it dries up just on every day stuff and you're scrimping again.
On the days you do have money, make sure you don't post anything that looks too posh or expensive for "the likes of you as you couldn't possibly afford that?"
Better just show smart price jam and bread posts in case people think I aren't poor "enough" type thing?!

brownbreadicecream · 05/08/2022 17:28

What's that? GoodJanetBadJanet has turned up on a thread to deliberately get the wrong end of the stick so she can feel justified in calling MNers rude snobs or whatever it is this week?

Surely she wouldn't ignore the actual JM tweets quoted here to mischaracterise people's arguments? ...oh.

SweetSakura · 05/08/2022 17:29

Well I would have thought it was just sensible money management not to take on expensive commitments (eg a dog) or spend lots of money on tattoos and travel if you don't have a safety net of savings.

And I have been so broke I skipped meals after my ex left me with two young children. I am not talking about this as an abstract concept. But I wouldn't have been spending money on tattoos and dogs and holidays if I would have needed to pawn things/beg for money on twitter by the end of the month.

Poyi · 05/08/2022 17:34

Tweet what you want, pretend to be melting soap one day and looking at mortgages for a 550k house another, taking out lightbulbs and then getting a dog another.

But people are probably going to question the constant inconsistencies and lies when you rattle the PayPal to get money from them.

And that's a good thing for people to question and talk about tbh, same as with mlms, gofundmes etc.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 16:53

As for "patreon suckers" nobody forces anyone to donate money, it's not like you're having your arm twisted behind your back or given a flying wedgie and told you've got to donate, is it?!
I haven't done it myself but I don't see anything wrong with little donations kind of like a tip to read content you want to see
It's only the same type of thing that bigger content providers do by sticking their stuff behind a paywall.

Hi Jack Janet 👋

Liz Jones . . . does she still write for the Daily Fail?

That takes me back - as you say, another self-pitying whiner always complaining about being skint despite having umpteen acres and horses etc.

The MoS still publishes her execrable "Diary".

In which she has recently recycled the Imaginary Rock Star yet again.

brownbreadicecream · 05/08/2022 17:36

I'd bet JM's entire fortune that half the people arguing on this thread haven't even read the Twitter thread that it is about. It was posted early on.

I haven't got the wrong end of any stick, I am just giving my opinion like people tend to do.
Also haven't called anyone a rude snob or done any personal attacks, so not sure what you're on about?
Also, you seem to "know" me as a poster which I find really interesting as the only other topic I disagree with the majority of people on a thread on is the trans threads on here.
Makes the comment upthread about why does anyone who disaggrees think we're right wing or Uncle Knobhead or T**F make more sense, as I was thinking what's "gender critical" (preferred terminology on here) got to do with anything?!
"GC" posters on a Jack Monroe thread, never twigged until this post.
Got it 😁

Errr, no, you don’t have to show you’re poor.
You just have to not show that you’ve got enough money for a designer puppy, haircuts at Toni & Guy, £1500 rent a month, Burberry coats and scarves, etc etc. It’s not hard Confused

BreatheAndFocus · 05/08/2022 17:55

I don’t care how much or how little or how moderate an amount of money JM has. That’s her/their business. What I do care about is honesty and integrity. So, what gets to me isn’t the amount of money or whether writing is a career, or anything like that - it’s the inconsistencies (being polite).

Nobody should be posting about how they could afford to buy a 550k house and then only a few weeks later spinning a tale of boiling up soap (obviously stupid and wasteful), not being able to afford shampoo (it’s pennies) and asking for money from people, many of whom could well be worse off than JM

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 05/08/2022 17:59

I'm actually gipping at rinsed spaghetti 🤮
I don't believe for a minute anyone skint would waste food like that (by making it worse)

ermagerdabear · 05/08/2022 18:02

Exactly! Imagine for a second, if an actual working class person on benefits, not a poverty tourist like Jack, had posted on social media that they'd run out of money for the month and couldn't afford the rent. When you looked a bit closer, you could see previous post where, in the last few months, they'd been to Venice, bought a dog, and were sporting Tiffany earrings in all their selfies. They'd be fucking roasted and people would telling them to get a job. Instead, because it's the darling of m/c Twitter and the acceptable face of modern poverty, we have people rushing in to defend them and offering to send them money every month.

She posted on Instagram saying she had a five figure deal with them, I remember reading it at the time and thinking how pleased I was for her and I was also shocked because like you I assumed these sorts of collaborations were relatively low value.

I've been pointed here from twitter and I have to say, this is quite something. I follow jack and have a couple of her cookbooks and although I don't follow her that closely she often dominates my twitter feed.

I have to say I was initially a little shocked by the allegations, but then when you see it all laid out like that it's clear she likes to exaggerate and twist the narrative to suit the situation.

I feel that grifter might be the wrong word, chancer maybe?
