Liz Jones . . . does she still write for the Daily Fail?

That takes me back - as you say, another self-pitying whiner always complaining about being skint despite having umpteen acres and horses etc.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 15:44

These threads always make me laugh.
People with absolutely no fucking clue going on about how "you must be minted" if you're writing.
It doesn't work like that.
Half the time you're expected to write for free as you're supposed to be grateful for the chance for "exposure," yes , a couple of mainstream.newspapers I'm talking about youexposure doesn't exactly pay the bills or put food on the table, does it?!
So I can't get worked up over the frothing I've seen from some saying she has a patreon app where you can donate or not donate money, kind of like a tip, I think?
So what if she does? Bills need to be paid and writing is notoriously badly paid, very rarely makes you rich.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 15:49

Jack hasn't released a book in two years, despite working '100 hours' a week. In fact, she hasn't really done much of note in those two years either
See, how would you even know how much she has or hasn't done in the last two years?!

Emotionalsupportviper · 05/08/2022 15:52

Whether she's earning peanuts or whether she is earning £1,000,000/week is neither here nor there.

What is important is that she appears to be untruthful and a grifter.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 15:53

@scottishgirl69 ·

The issue is she's pretending to be poor so that her fans will give her cash.
Do you have access to her finances?
Are you her?
Because if not sorry but you're talking out of your arse as you couldn't possibly know that.

DelisButAlsoCrime · 05/08/2022 15:56

It’s like whack-a-mole with these definitely not JM herself overly defensive support accounts

darisdet · 05/08/2022 15:56

I'd forgotten about Liz Jones! There probably are some similarities.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 16:02

🤣😂 Here we go, had a bet with myself, it's like clockwork lol.
I've been an active member for years and no, I'm definitely not her lol or am I
(No I'm really not 😁)
Just cannot believe what some people spout as fact just because LoadsaBollocks posted it on a forum as fact so must be true, or think they know complete strangers personally as they're in the public eye.
You don't.

When you do the basic maths on her patreon account taking it as the lowest level she gets over 35k a year from that and some subscribers will be paying more.

not only that there have been nkthing provided in over 2 years on it either so she clearly has a level of passive income and no output.

we don’t know about some of the rest of it, but if you add in even a small amount of book royalties and appearance fees, she is earning at the lowest end 40k per annum.

that in some places really won’t go far but it’s not poverty wage.

and that’s if we take everything at face value. As AM has shows there is a lot of contradictions in what’s she has said and done and a lot of time line mismatches.

so it’s hard to trust anything about her

ermagerdabear · 05/08/2022 16:11

See, how would you even know how much she has or hasn't done in the last two years?!

Are you new to Jack Monroe, dear? If so, try her Twitter seeing as she tweets every brain fart she has for 12 hours a day. She hasn't fulfilled any of her Patreon pledges, for starters. Her new book was supposed to be out last Christmas I believe, and yet we're still waiting. So what exactly does she do? (Apart from also not paying her tax bill for two years).

SweetSakura · 05/08/2022 16:15

Irrespective of how much she does/does not earn... The fact remains there is a vast gulf between the financial situation of someone buying designer puppies and trips to Amsterdam and new tattoos and the alternate portrayal of someone who is scraping buy and asking for charity and about to head back to the pawn shop ...

And yet all these appear on her blog/Twitter feed in the last few weeks alone

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 16:15

Are you new to Jack Monroe, dear?

No, hunnybunch

SweetSakura · 05/08/2022 16:17

It's fine to be well off and able to afford treats and still campaign for people in poverty. (See Martin Lewis for instance)

It's also fine to be really struggling.

What isn't fine is to either be catastrophic with money management and then believe you are poor (the kindest interpretation) or to be misleading supporters into thinking you are poor when you know full well you can afford a nice standard of living.

scottishgirl69 · 05/08/2022 16:22

Why doesn't she just get a job or claim universal credit like other people have to?

ermagerdabear · 05/08/2022 16:37

scottishgirl69 · 05/08/2022 16:22

Because it's far, far easier for Jack to pretend she's poor so she can rinse pensioners and benefits claimants, much like she rinses those spaghetti hoops.

youngestsister · 05/08/2022 16:39

So funny! Yes bills need to be paid, for all of us. If writing doesn't paid enough for JM, or her TV/ radio slots, or the sponsorships from Hellmans, Superdrug, Linda McCartney, Del Monte, or the substantial income from her Patreon suckers contributors, she could perhaps get a JOB?!

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 16:48

she could perhaps get a JOB?!
Writing IS a job for some.
Unless you mean a "proper" job, don't creative ones count in your head?
Sounds like something your Uncle Knobhead or elderly gran would say.
Have you got yourself settled with a proper little job yet, dear?!"
🙄
It can be a full time job in itself.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 16:53

As for "patreon suckers" nobody forces anyone to donate money, it's not like you're having your arm twisted behind your back or given a flying wedgie and told you've got to donate, is it?!
I haven't done it myself but I don't see anything wrong with little donations kind of like a tip to read content you want to see
It's only the same type of thing that bigger content providers do by sticking their stuff behind a paywall.

ermagerdabear · 05/08/2022 16:54

It's only the same type of thing that bigger content providers

Except she doesn't provide any content, does she?

nokitchen · 05/08/2022 16:55

Writing is a full time job if it makes you enough money to live on. If it brings in some money then it's a part time job. If it makes no money then it's a hobby.

foxandbee · 05/08/2022 16:57

Yes, writing is a job. But it is very hard to make a living from it, which is why many succesful writers have other jobs too.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 05/08/2022 16:58

Oh and as for sponsorships, I don't know what it's like for the brands mentioned but I DO know that sometimes when you're asked to advertise products, or endorse them, they pay you in the product 😂
Yes, that's very nice, thank you, I appreciate a hamper with some nice bits of food in it or a pack of pencils, but what about my gas bill that needs paying?! 🤣
Seriously, I honestly think people don't have a clue what they're talking about when they think you must automatically have money.

Successful.

ermagerdabear · 05/08/2022 17:04

Jack has had enough 'exposure' over the last ten years to charge a hefty amount for her writing, if she chose. Besides which, as others have said, if you aren't earning money from it, it's not a job, it's a hobby or a sideline. If you're very good or very lucky, or both, your hobby will enable you to earn a full time wage at which point it turns into a job. If you haven't managed that over ten years, to the point where you apparently can't afford shampoo, it's time to look at doing something else, not put a begging letter out on Twitter (especially when you've just acquired a designer puppy).

She got a five figure sum for the Hellman's debacle, I believe. I doubt she was paid in mayonnaise.
