Should I buy this wedding dress..?

Hi all,

So I'm currently wedding dress hunting. Wedding is coming up SO quickly now - with only 50 days to go until the big day!
I've left dress shopping until last as I have been on a bit of a weight loss journey and wanted to stabilise a little before buying my dress.

Anyway.. I've lost almost 6 stone now since the beginning of this year, so I wanted to try and find something elegant, timeless, classic but also slightly fitted to give me a nice shape and to celebrate my loss 🫣😊

Today I tried this dress (below) and I think I'm in love with it.. 🥹🥰 but would love opinions before I go and buy it!

Thank you in advance!

I’ll be honest and sorry in advance if I offend at all.
I think you can do better. It’s not flattering across your hips and bum and the top reminds me of a Belfast sink, it’s so stiff and austere.

I think your figure would be flattered better in a fluid, skimming style.

bluegardenflowers · 31/07/2022 10:39

Love it, but the neck needs a beautiful refined necklace as there looks to be a large expanse of skin. Just to break it up.

Bunce1 · 31/07/2022 10:40

There is NO FAT spilling anywhere! Goodness me whoever made that comment is an absolute thunder cunt.

Pay them no mind at all.

my comment was about the fit in the torso, I think it could do with being a fraction longer? But it’s such a minor thing it’s not worth bothering about.

I really hope I haven’t upset you or given you pause about your quite frankly incredible figure and weight loss. ❤️

You do not look like you have fat spilling over by the way - the boning on strapless dresses has to stop somewhere and anyone over a size 10 gets a little bulge. The only way to avoid it is to have a dress with straps.

I think it looks lovely !

eurochick · 31/07/2022 10:41

I like simple dresses - it is lovely and elegant. But I think strapless dresses are a bit done now and they will always pinch back and underarm fat. I'd look for a similarly simple dress but with straps or a halter neck.

Well done on your fantastic weight loss!

Having read the rest of the thread, I’ll get my coat…

Is there really any need for such a horrible post?

Did you think : I know, a bride-to-be who loves a dress will be so happy to have a stranger say she looks like a sink.

What a nasty thing to do, @pictish

pictish · 31/07/2022 10:46

I wasn’t trying to be nasty. In my mind I was advising with best intentions before she spent the cash. It’s an honest opinion regarding the question posed. I don’t like the dress and here is why.
I’m so sorry.

bellsbuss · 31/07/2022 10:46

I think I more a fitted style would look nicer, the waist isn't quite right on that dress. Well done on your weight loss.

pictish · 31/07/2022 10:47

Don’t know why I quoted there.

Bunce1 · 31/07/2022 10:50

Pictish I wasn’t referring to your comment! Someone said there was fat spilling out….you didn’t say that???
☺️

Someone else quoted me. No worries.

How tall are you OP?

Something I've found with the A line dresses is if you don't have the height actually you're better off going narrower (I'm dress hunting too and I think I'll end up with a column which I'd never have thought before).

I can imagine you still feel a bit self conscious about your size because your head is still 6 stones ago in what you would pull off the rack to try on (bloody well done!) I actually think you could be a bit braver and try something more fitted.

It's a pretty dress so if you do go for it you'll look absolutely lovely. But I reckon try a "brave" dress too just to see as you might surprise yourself with what works now your shape has changed.

TheBikiniExpert · 31/07/2022 10:53

I don't normally like strapless but that's beautiful and you look amazing. Buy it - and the veil!

LivingOnAnIsland · 31/07/2022 10:53

I think you look gorgeous, and congratulations on your weight loss.

No matter the person's size, they should not have any bulge. The dress is slightly too tight for the OP around the top of the bodice. It's a lovely dress and this does not take away from her achievement in losing 6 stone. If I were you OP, I'd try the next size up and see what that looks like on. The crease under the bust shouldn't be there either. Better to have a bigger size adjusted for a perfect fit than to wear something a little too tight. If it feels too tight that will get worse as the day goes on.

Ontomatopea · 31/07/2022 10:55

Do you have a necklace in mind? That style would really sing with a necklace

Titsflyingsouth · 31/07/2022 10:57

That's a very classy dress....

Congrats on the weight loss. Hope you have a wonderful wedding, OP

mawofone · 31/07/2022 10:58

Congratulations OP! A 6 stone weight loss is amazing and your dress is gorgeous!
The only advice I would give is to see if there's an option to add straps or something so you can wear a proper bra.
Speaking from experience as a larger busted person - your dress may feel really secure at first but as the day goes on and the bones of the dress loosen, you're at risk of the top sagging. It happened to me and a I've seen it with a few friends as well.
Obviously, if you've been reassured that won't happen then that's great but loved experience tells me otherwise!

TeapotTitties · 31/07/2022 10:58

You look lovely OP, definitely go for that dress and veil.

@Bunce1 neither of those dresses would flatter the OP's build.

Lineala · 31/07/2022 10:59

I think you could do better. You have a lovely shape but the dress is not quite right around the bust and shoulder areas. Have you tried any others you liked?

Poppyblush · 31/07/2022 11:00

Lovely, and it gives you a great shape.
