Should I buy this wedding dress..?

Hi all,

So I'm currently wedding dress hunting. Wedding is coming up SO quickly now - with only 50 days to go until the big day!
I've left dress shopping until last as I have been on a bit of a weight loss journey and wanted to stabilise a little before buying my dress.

Anyway.. I've lost almost 6 stone now since the beginning of this year, so I wanted to try and find something elegant, timeless, classic but also slightly fitted to give me a nice shape and to celebrate my loss 🫣😊

Today I tried this dress (below) and I think I'm in love with it.. 🥹🥰 but would love opinions before I go and buy it!

Thank you in advance!

Its stunning. Really defines your waist. Lovely and big and swishy. So elegant. Plain white wedding dresses (not that it's plain, but it's not fussy and covered in lace) are timeless and classiest, in my.opinion

teapot I think an hourglass figure is absolutely the right shape for a sheath/column dress.

anyway. Horses for courses

The most important question to ask is:
Do YOU feel beautiful and comfortable in it?

I think you look wonderful

Your figure looks amazing - congrats! Love the full skirt and cinched in waist but personally the strapless look is a bit casual for my liking. I might be tempted to go with a top half in a fifties style, to match the skirt. (Also I think you'd look AMAZING in a wiggle dress - maybe not for your wedding, but a style to explore!)

bombombo · 31/07/2022 11:14

You look great! It's a really classic dress.

BungleandGeorge · 31/07/2022 11:21

I think it looks lovely, I like a simple, classy dress. I would say it is just a fraction too tight but you’ll probably lose a couple of pounds before the big day. I think the style will look good in photos.
ypu are on quite a tight deadline to get a dress, especially if it needs any alterations!

rainbowstardrops · 31/07/2022 11:25

I think the dress looks lovely on you! Gorgeous veil too!
Well done on your incredible weight loss Flowers

Watzzap · 31/07/2022 11:34

Congratulations on your weight loss and on your upcoming wedding. I can be a bit over critical at times, but I can’t criticise that dress as it is so beautiful, elegant and timeless. The veil is gorgeous too, so go with that as well. It definitely is not boring and it fits you really well, showing off your lovely new figure.

itsoneofthosethings · 31/07/2022 11:38

Thank you all so much.
I think I'm still in the headspace of being in larger sizes. My mind hasn't quite caught up
with the loss and what I see in the mirror!! Blush

I still have a bit of a 'belly' so I think A-line is definitely the style for me. I'd love to be brave enough to one day wear something fitted!

I am expecting to loose maybe another stone / stone and a half before the wedding, so the tight look around the bodice should sort itself out. I felt really well supported, didn't feel too tight at all but the last thing I'd want is for it to LOOK too tight and unflattering 🫣

I like the dress apart from the strapless element. I think it would look more elegant with something over the sleeve. Maybe one of those lace cropped jackets - very light weight, almost a shawl but fitted rather and than just a shawl

sleepyhoglet · 31/07/2022 11:40

Can you go back and try some other dresses and post. I know we are all being honest, but that's the point!

sleepyhoglet · 31/07/2022 11:43

Something floaty like these pictures would be nice

That first one there is gorgeous.

Benjispruce4 · 31/07/2022 11:46

I do think the security of straps would’ve good for piece of mind.

picklemewalnuts · 31/07/2022 11:54

As a suggestion, a shorter, fuller coverage veil would mask any possibility of any unflattering back area. Some detail on the veil landing at that exact spot would totally mask it, if it were still there by then!

You've done amazingly well. I only noticed the area behind the arms, because it happens to me too (also lost 5+ stone).

On the day, people will be stunned by how fabulous you look. They won't be picking apart details.

It's gorgeous!

LittleLottle · 31/07/2022 12:01

If you love it then that's all that matters! I disagree with posters that suggested a short veil and plain, I personally love long veils whereas short seem dated. The lace detail acts as a nice cover up too!

Personally I'm not a fan of Strapless, I just don't think they're flattering on anyone above a size 8. I also think a corset would give you a lovely sinched waist. However I do agree that style is beautiful and classic!

It doesn’t look poorly fitting but obviously people are going to look for small imperfections if you ask them to! I wouldn’t notice on your big day.
if you lose that much weight I think you’re in danger of that dress being considerably too large though. The problem with a fitted strapless dress is that it’s a very close fit. The obvious solution would be to put a corset fastening in the back but not sure you would like that?

sashh · 31/07/2022 12:04

I'd add cap sleeves to it, partly to keep it up and partly because strapless dresses seem to give everyone a bit of an overspill that gets worse as the day goes on.

The dress shop should be able to do that for you or let you have a look at what that would look like.

itsoneofthosethings · 31/07/2022 12:07

Some more photos here.

Hoping the fat overhang will be reduced by the wedding 🤦🏼‍♀️😅

Congrats on the amazing weight loss, and I know what it's like to still be thinking in larger sizes and not completely see the reality in the mirror. I'm not so sure about the dress, it's nice fabric and the button back is lovely, but I do think you could find something a bit more flattering around the waist and bust.

I also agree with previous posters about strapless styles having issues for the bigger bust (I'm 34 F/FF cup & 12/14 dress size). It may feel supportive now but every bride I know who wore a strapless was hoiking it up a lot through the day as the fabric & boning relaxed. I also feel rather naked & exposed in them and prefer my shoulders and upper arms to have some coverage, even if it's a sheer cap or angel wing sleeve. But this quite a personal thing; I don't even wear strappy vest tops or halter necks. I like the style of the one on the left @sleepyhoglet posted. If you don't like lace, maybe you can find something in a similar style but a simpler fabric.

The mere fact you are seeking opinions makes me think you are unsure about it and are seeking reassurance, when actually continuing to look for something a bit different that you instantly know is 'the one' would be better. And if not, trying a few more on may confirm this is the right dress after all.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 31/07/2022 12:12

I think it is lovely. I couldn't do strapless as I have no boobs and had also lost a lot of weight (10stone) and so found it difficult to accept the changes in how I looked. I bought a lace bolero jacket which was attached to the dress by clear poppers so could be easily taken off when I wanted.

If you love it then just buy it. You wearing a dress you love will make you look radiant and that is all that matters.

moiraandthebebe · 31/07/2022 12:13

It's a beautiful dress and fits you amazingly. Go for it.

BungleandGeorge · 31/07/2022 12:15

Looks beautiful with the veil

Bunce1 · 31/07/2022 12:18

That third picture of you with your hand on your hip!? Perfection.

KEEP the dress.

sleepyhoglet · 31/07/2022 12:21

I prefer the more recent pics as we can see your hair too. I think I was critical of the shoulder area because it is bare- it would be nice to see the necklace. You look beautiful and I am picking it apart far too much but you are spending a lot of money so want to get it right!
