Which UK city do you think will host Eurovision?

In our house we are guessing either Manchester, because it has the Media City area, and has a reputation for being very vibrant and up and coming, or Cardiff because the waterfront would provide a beautiful backdrop and the Millenium center is right on the bay.

Sheffield should get it probably won't. Manchester will get it most likely, they seem to be becoming the Northern London.

It's be nice to give it a smaller town, Harrogate hosted it in the past.

Newcastle would be amazing, we've got the Utilita Arena, very close to the airport, great train and road links, plus amazing photo opportunity on the Tyne

catwithflowers · 12/08/2022 18:34

Hoping for Newcastle 😊 🎶 🎤

Mammyloveswine · 12/08/2022 18:38

Would love it to be Newcastle! Remind the govt that "up north" doesn't just mean Manchester or Leeds!

Easy to get to via road, rail or air and a ferry port too!

Cant see the utility arena looking as glam as the venues that normally host though!! Grin

User639921 · 12/08/2022 18:46

I hope its not Birmingham or my Elton John concert which I booked in 2019 at vast expense will be postponed again.

Ilikewinter · 12/08/2022 18:50

I hope liverpool get it, I live in Manchester and selfishly dont want to have to put up with the madness it will bring 🤣.
I suspect it will go to Glasgow

I’d love to see the arena tarted up for Eurovision! It’ll probably end up going to the north west (as things usually do) but I’d so love Newcastle to get it.

Newcastle has a strong opportunity when you look at what would need to be moved to accommodate it, its less then the others.

My preference would have been Belfast. I think Birmingham would do it great, Newcastle would also be good because the north doesn't mean Manchester, but seeing at its being hosted by the BBC its going to end up in Manchester and the shortlisting is a farce

purdypuma · 12/08/2022 20:10

As I live near Sheffield it would be nice if we could host....if only In the vain hope that it would give SCC a huge boot up the backside to start improving the city centre. Ah well, I live in hope 😏

Being someone who has many many years experience of bidding for international events in the UK- I can almost guarantee that it will go to Glasgow.

these types of events want ££££ from the host cites, their argument will be “our event will make the city millions in economic impact, what can you do to help us put it on?”

Glasgow has the event capacity with the Hydro arena, airport, and hotel infrastructure to hold such an event. Plus crucially, they specifically have an event strategy / budget pot to bid for events. Their view being that it’s an investment for what the city will get back.

Glasgow win so many international events purely because of that - and with London not in the running, my past experience says that Glasgow is a dead cert.

Lot of other cities too small with their event infrastructure- Birmingham have the size, but does it have the £££ especially after Commonwealth Games

MabelMoo23 · 12/08/2022 21:20

Manchester has the space - but they suffer same issue with Glasgow winning stuff

JasmineVioletRose · 12/08/2022 21:23

O2 London.

JasmineVioletRose · 12/08/2022 21:24

BestIsWest · 25/07/2022 13:46

Why should it be England?

Because we came "second"

MabelMoo23 · 12/08/2022 21:24

JasmineVioletRose · 12/08/2022 21:23

O2 London.

London aren’t on the shortlist so it won’t be O2

MabelMoo23 · 12/08/2022 21:26

Also with regards to events already in the public domain , that means nothing - you don’t know what the venues are holding for promoters. Usually several dates are held because promoters are tying up dates with other venues so they publish overall tour dates

PoseyFlump · 12/08/2022 21:27

Does anyone know what month Eurovision tickets usually go on sale?

LoveLarry · 12/08/2022 21:32

JasmineVioletRose · 12/08/2022 21:23

O2 London.

Who is the "we" that came second?

Do you even watch it?

CornishTiger · 12/08/2022 21:34

Not read all the thread. I’m going with Cardiff. It’s close to where Amy Wadge who co wrote the song that came 2nd has lived for years.

It won't be Cardiff

They're not shortlisted

Nat6999 · 12/08/2022 21:35

I hope Sheffield get it, we deserve something, we were overlooked for City of Culture several times, no chance of the Commonwealth games, the last thing we had other than the snooker was the Student Games.

CornishTiger · 12/08/2022 21:38

Scrub that! Just caught up with the news

From what I've read it seems Oct/Nov time..

FitAt50 · 12/08/2022 22:04

Eurovision is nearly always the 3rd week in May - dont know why that poor poster spent so much time researching what was on in cities in April?

NCHammer2022 · 12/08/2022 22:05

Because they need a venue clear for 6-8 weeks beforehand

Bindayagain · 12/08/2022 22:10

JasmineVioletRose · 12/08/2022 21:24

Because we came "second"

I have no memories of there being an English entry?
