Which UK city do you think will host Eurovision?

In our house we are guessing either Manchester, because it has the Media City area, and has a reputation for being very vibrant and up and coming, or Cardiff because the waterfront would provide a beautiful backdrop and the Millenium center is right on the bay.

Carlisle. It's just off the M6, so easy to get to, and the Sands Centre has decent parking. Plus lots of pre-song segment photo ops - contestants larking about the Castle, pretending to enjoy some Kendal Mint Cake, bargain-hunting at the Gretna Gateway village, etc.

Delatron · 25/07/2022 13:13

I think Leeds. Only because I heard this being discussed on the radio and it seemed to be a front runner. And it’s a great city!

mnahmnah · 25/07/2022 13:15

@HastaLaBisto The sands centre 🤣 unlikely. Would be amazing though!

I’m hoping for Liverpool or Manchester

SeptimusWarrenSmith · 25/07/2022 13:16

Blackpool.

OutDamnedSpot · 25/07/2022 13:18

Hahahahah. I’d vote for the Sands Centre!

RoseAndRose · 25/07/2022 13:22

What size venue is needed?

When UK has hosted before, the venues have been:

  1. London, Royal Festival Hall
  2. London, BBC TV Centre
  3. London, Royal Albert Hall
  4. Edinburgh, Usher Hall
  5. Brighton, Brighton Dome
  6. London, Wembley Conference Centre
  7. Harrogate, Harrogate International Centre
  8. Birmingham, National Indoor Arena

I think it should be in Wales or NI

Bobbybobbins · 25/07/2022 13:22

I saw Bristol mentioned somewhere

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2022 13:23

Some excellent ideas Grin

Did you catch why Leeds is a favorite @Delatron ?

I’m hoping for Leeds. Really want to go!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2022 13:27

Wiki says "The host venue must be able to accommodate at least 10,000 spectators, a press centre for 1,500 journalists, should be within easy reach of an international airport and with hotel accommodation available for at least 2,000 delegates, journalists and spectators."

I thought about Brighton, it has Gatwick airport in its favour. But isn't it a bit small and where would it be held?

Hoping Glasgow because it’s only an hours drive for me to get to 😆

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2022 13:30

What is Bristol's largest music venue?

Based on that, I'd say Birmingham NEC.

Brighton's already had it, so I doubt they'll get it again

Floralnomad · 25/07/2022 13:32

I don’t mind as long as it’s not anywhere in Scotland as I don’t want Sturgeon getting any kind of look in . Cardiff would be good .

waltzingparrot · 25/07/2022 13:33

Newcastle or Glasgow.

We're levelling up......

AffIt · 25/07/2022 13:35

Glasgow!

We have the Hydro, which would work well as a venue, plenty of hotel space and an international airport.

Alternatively, I'd like to see Manchester or Belfast get it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/07/2022 13:35

Belfast. It's brilliant.

LoopyGremlin · 25/07/2022 13:36

Glasgow!

iklboo · 25/07/2022 13:37

Belfast or Cardiff would be good. Great vibes in the cities and not the 'usual suspects'.

Mosaic123 · 25/07/2022 13:38

Is there room at Stratford on East London where the Olympics took place in 2012?

RoseAndRose · 25/07/2022 13:39

UK indoors venues with capacity over 10,000

Wales

  • none
  • SSE Arena, Belfast
Scotland
  • P&J Live, Aberdeen
  • OVO Hydro, Glasgow
England
  • O2, London
  • OVO Wembley, London
  • Utilitaria, Birmingham
  • Resorts World Arena, Birmingham
  • First Direct Arena, Leeds
  • M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool
  • AO Arena, Manchester
  • Utilitaria Arena, Newcastle upon Tyne
  • Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham
  • Sheffield Arena, Sheffield
LimesandClementines · 25/07/2022 13:39

I live near Leeds so it would be great if that is true!

Great research Rose!

I'll sadly strike Cardiff off the possible list.

I think Manchester or Glasgow are the favourites.

Manchester has a great chance I think as it’s due to open a brand new arena with capacity for over 20,000 (or the existing arena I think is one of the largest indoor venues in the UK anyway)
