Why are so many people lazy ?

Is it more they are struggling in life or they just genuinely don’t want to do stuff

I'm lazy. I do work full time, but even so, I do just enough work to not get sacked. It's brilliant, I get paid the same as everyone else who puts 110% in.

transformandriseup · 23/07/2022 20:36

We have a lady who works 2 days a week in a low responsibility job. Can never do the full 2 days and always off sick. Comes in walking fine then all of a sudden her foot stops working or she can't use her hands etc. It's a joke.

Well MS can do exactly this. I'm not saying that's what PPs colleague has though.

How do you know they are lazy though, unless you are with someone 24/7 it's really hard to be sure. Maybe you would think I was lazy if you know I was in bed at midday. What you might not know is that I'd just come off a run of nights. You may think my neighbour is lazy as she drives less than a mile to pick kids up from school, but she's just had ACL surgery. You may think Joe Bloggs is lazy for ordering take away, but their kitchen is being refurbed ...

My thoughts exactly.

When someone rings me at 4pm and I'm still in bed, they're almost offended. But I finished finished at 7 am, walked the dog, did soem chores and paperwork and finally fell asleep at 10:00. Had I gone to bed at midnight, would I be incredibly lazy to be in bed at 06:00?
But people still judge me.

Greenday49 · 23/07/2022 20:39

WORK*, not 'finished'. Thanks phone.

Herejustforthisone · 23/07/2022 20:45

Some people are just common-or-garden lazy though…

riotlady · 23/07/2022 20:45

What is actually the problem with laziness though? Obviously everyone has certain commitments they have to meet- jobs, looking after children. But so long as those are done, who cares if someone chooses to lie in front of the sofa instead of going for a job or shining their front step? There's no moral value in being busy

LovelyYellowLabrador · 23/07/2022 20:45

“my job would be advertised in the same newspaper as my obituary“

chillingly accurate

if you live with someone who doesn’t match your energy levels or productivity it can be frustrating. Otherwise it doesn’t bother me that much.

lemmein · 23/07/2022 21:03

I'm lazy! I just cba with most things - I'd love to be more energetic and have a zest for life but I just don't think it's in my DNA, I've always been a top procrastinator.

I work a lot of hours (SE/WFH) so although I can spend a big part of my day delaying starting work, once I get started I put in more hours than most in conventional 'office hours' roles.

I can't remember the last time I cleaned up though 😫

Samanabanana · 23/07/2022 21:06

Oh god, I LOVE to be lazy, it's my favourite hobby

BitchyLittleSpinster · 23/07/2022 21:11

What’s the point? We’re just counting the hours down until we die. May as well do it lying down.

Titsywoo · 23/07/2022 21:12

My neighbour is so lazy and I judge her for it. I hate lazyness. She doesn't work (no kids just has a well off partner), has a cleaner, gardener etc. Doesn't do any volunteering just sits around all day and cooks dinner.

Lastarse · 23/07/2022 21:13

People who drone on about being sooooo busy are just as annoying. What trumps busy over lazy ? Who’s the moral arbitrator ?

Titsywoo · 23/07/2022 21:13

Oops laziness

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/07/2022 21:14

I think it is largely because

Oh look a video on YouTube of a cat laughing...

people can't concentrate and are easily

Look, look I can bend my fingers right back... ouch.

distracted. Maybe they're not lazy just shallow?

Not me, because I make an effort and concentrate and sonrh kvgubh grub consequently I blrgds ogg haha. If you know what I means.

There is a balance though. I am lazy sometimes but all the time is a waste of life.

Sounds wonderful. I'm jealous!

Lastarse · 23/07/2022 21:16

Again, who says what the ‘balance’ is ?

FYLM · 23/07/2022 21:17

i have a demanding full-time job (40 hours per week + 3 hours per day commuting), I work 3 evenings a week and run my own business at the weekends. This is in addition to bringing up 2 children, one with SEN.

Yet I can’t be fucked to empty the dishwasher or put the clothes away or play a board game with my kids.

People can be lazy about some things but not others.

User2145738790 · 23/07/2022 21:18

Are you really too lazy to give us examples, op?

Rinatinabina · 23/07/2022 21:20

I think I’m mainly just tired. Since having DD I’ve gained weight, don’t get anywhere enough sleep so I’m sloth like a minimum of 60% of the time. I think it’s sleep and actual downtime. But mines a bad sleeper and I have a horrible habit of staying up too late to try to recoup some of my own time back.

Lastarse · 23/07/2022 21:20

OP is very lazy IMO
we need nice judgy examples based primarily from net twitching and ‘I saw on Facebook’….

Really?! I always think it seems so dull. I like to keep busy though so I'd be bored. If I wasn't working I'd need to feel like I was contributing something so I would volunteer.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/07/2022 21:24

My mother thinks I'm lazy because I dislike housework. I pay others to do it.

I am 62 and have put in 59 hours this week in a senior, stressful full-time job. I shall be working tomorrow from 9.30 to 3.30.

I often feel lazy when on a free Saturday I lie in bed with a pot of tea and fuck about on MNet until noon.

User5000 · 23/07/2022 21:25

If you asked this question a year ago I would have said I was just plain lazy and always had been. However, I'm now diagnosed with ADHD. I spent my entire life with no idea I had this. I'm now of the opinion that laziness doesn't truly exist. It's either someone with different priorities, or a health condition, whether the 'lazy' person has any idea they have this or not.
