If you don't return your trolley at the supermarket, why is that?

A woman today, in a P&C space with no child (but that's a different argument) just let her trolley blow away after she'd put her shopping in the boot. I retrieved it and put it behind her car so she couldn't get out. She was raging!

Why do people not return their trolleys?

Not only do I always put my trolley back in the trolley bay, I also tidy them up so they’re all tucked inside the right sizes! 😄

Return the trolley is something you do without thinking, for most of people. It's dangerous and obstructing otherwise.
But it seems like cba could be a reason now a days, then it's understandable we see them all over the place sometimes. Kids growing up watching parents do this must grow up to be the same.

alwaysmovingforwards · 09/07/2022 17:35

I think putting the trolley back is simply a case of thinking if others.

srirachamayo · 09/07/2022 17:35

Reading the title of your post only, I thought you were asking "What offence is it called when you don't return the trolley"😂

I'm so annoyed to see Tesco trolleys all over my area that I really wish it was an offence, or at least people could get fined for it.

ChinBristles · 09/07/2022 17:39

@AitkenDrum1970 same! As otherwise you can't fit that many trolleys in! It's much like stacking the dishwasher - there is an optimum way!

Don't they have to get their pound back?

Jalepenojello · 09/07/2022 17:47

They are entitled knobs?

Leaving a trolley out to obstruct or damage peoples vehicles are the actions of a twat.

SmashingEgg · 09/07/2022 17:47

I had a two month old car badly dented and scratched when a large trolley was blown into it because some lazy twat couldn't be bothered to return it to a trolley bay!

custardbear · 09/07/2022 17:49

I usually put mine away, but on occasion I've had autistic children in meltdown and I've left it in the walkway part that's got no cars - I always feel guilty but kids before trolleys

Sunbun19 · 09/07/2022 17:52

A woman next to me did the exact same thing when I went shopping the other day, she was also in a p&c without a child, wonder if it was the same woman 😀

curiousitygotthebetterofme · 09/07/2022 17:56

The entitlement of some people on here is awful.

PP claiming they can just dump their trolleys anywhere and everywhere because “they cba” and “people get paid to do it”

Its awful. The staff are paid to collect the trolleys from the trolley shelters I the car park, not abandoned trolleys.

What if the trolley blows into someone’s car and damages it because it was left in a dangerous place in the car park? Please put your trolley in an appropriate place.

ChinBristles · 09/07/2022 17:56

@Sunbun19 A very short woman age early 40s in a sort of red Noddy car? Can't remember the exact make.

It's lazy, entitled, and self centred.

curiousitygotthebetterofme · 09/07/2022 18:05

The people who don’t return their trolleys would be the very first to complain if an abandoned trolley hit their car!

They’d also be the first to complain that there are none at the front of the store because the poor sod who’s job it is has a had to spend half an hour rounding up strays like cattle instead of just moving them from the trolley bays back to the door.

You are my people, I do this too, what kind of insane person rams a small trolley into the large trolley, or just discard a trolley diagonally in the entrance to a trolley bay!

I'll bite. I put my trolley back if I drive, but not if I cycle - I really don't want to leave my fully loaded and unlocked bike to return a trolley (need to stow the lock before putting on panniers). If there is a trolley bay really close, I'll use it, but as I've had stuff stolen off my bike at our local Tesco, I'm definitely not giving anyone the opportunity to take the whole thing. There are (unofficial) places to leave a trolley so it isn't loose in the car park though.

WonderingWanda · 09/07/2022 18:30

Most people who leave trollies are lazy twats. Obviously there may be one or two who have a genuine reason but it'@ a bit like littering. I managed to carry my lunch to the park so I can carry my litter home if there's no bin. At the supermarket I managed to get a trolly a the start and I can manage to take it back at the end. Pisses my right off when you can't park in a spaces because someone's left a trolly there.

Georgyporky · 09/07/2022 18:30

I always put mine back because I need the £1.
There's nowhere near me that doesn't require a coin/token -from Waitrose to the downmarket shops.

IncompleteSenten · 09/07/2022 18:34

Can I ask the ones who leave their trolleys loose in the car park - if your trolley went into someone's car and damaged it, would you pay up?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 09/07/2022 18:36

@IncompleteSenten i suspect the answer would be “no”, but I would bet good money on them wanting a total respect and dent removal if it was their car that was dinged by a trolley. 🤬

Really? The only place near me that you need a pound for is Lidl.

SmashingEgg · 09/07/2022 18:43

@MiniMoosey Asda, Morrisons, Aldi and Sainsbury's all near me require a pound in the trolley.

Chikapu · 09/07/2022 18:45

To those that say it’s someone else’s job - do you not flush toilets because that’s someone else’s job too?

Eh? Who's job is it to flush the toilet?
