If you don't return your trolley at the supermarket, why is that?

A woman today, in a P&C space with no child (but that's a different argument) just let her trolley blow away after she'd put her shopping in the boot. I retrieved it and put it behind her car so she couldn't get out. She was raging!

Why do people not return their trolleys?

Lazy twats

TrufflesForBreakfast · 09/07/2022 19:41

I wouldn't dream of doing it. Even when I had young kids. We've all been there - no one and no one's kids are more special than others, just suck it up and do the decent thing ffs.

Why would her child be unsafe in a locked car, firmly strapped in, within viewing distance?

But are the children in view ? It depends on the circumstances, Its totally different if you are parked right next/within sight of the trolley bay. I for one would not lock my kids in the car unsupervised to return a trolley out of sight no chance not at that age.

Morenamesandpasswords · 09/07/2022 19:45

Because back on the day I worked as a trolley hand whilst at school and that was my job - collecting and corralling the trolleys

keeps someone in a job

Usernumber1squillion · 09/07/2022 19:46

Aren't disabled bays near the front of the store? So you are right near the trolley parks. Same with parent and child spots

TheWayTheLightFalls · 09/07/2022 19:48

I’m a bit shocked at the replies to my comment. The trolley park at that supermarket is quite far from where I parked, and it was a hot day, so I couldn’t either leave the car locked and windows shut or leave them all in the car with doors/windows open - neither felt safe. It was also iirc something about leaving my 4yo on her own with her baby siblings - if one started crying she’d have felt so helpless and panicked. I left the trolley somewhere very visible/high pedestrian traffic, and I suspect it was a matter of minutes before either a shopper or someone wanting a pound took it.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 09/07/2022 19:48

@Usernumber1squillion our extra has disabled spaces along a wall which couldn’t be further from the store if they tried! I always wonder at the logic of the architect (or whomever designed it so).

So take your child with you to the trolly bay? Carry or walk with them back to the car??

@FFS090722 I wouldn't have done it if she were parked in a disabled space.

Every trolley has a brake ...

You did nothing wrong dont worry about some of the comments from the keyboard warriors I would have done exactly the same if that makes us entitled so be it who cares as long as your babies are safe x

Wheelz46 · 09/07/2022 19:59

For people who park selfishly, I've seen a video doing the rounds where they zip tie the trolley to the car 😆

Mummy2mybear · 09/07/2022 20:06

Sliceofcake read the comment properly it is not just one child 3month old twins and a 4 year old.

Homegettinginvaded · 09/07/2022 20:08

Because there is sadly a certain’type’ of person who feels that the world owes them something!!
Selfish ,self entitled and probably not very intelligent…doubt if they are rushing to their job either !!
Silly comments about the supermarket paying people to clear up behind them is absolutely disgusting!

Okay...so ask for help them by the staff. Or at least tell them you might need help with your trolly at the other end. If they can spare staff they will, if they can't at least they'll be aware.

BunnyChowLover · 09/07/2022 20:09

I’ve done it once. I hate myself. I was shattered, had to get to the supermarket and I honestly just could not make it that far and drive home. Ridiculous and I think about it daily

Come on …how many seconds would it have taken you to take trolley to a trolley bay !!
Leave car doors open and just do what is the right thing to do !

Wheelz46 · 09/07/2022 20:24

I appreciate it can be a nuisance to return your trolley if you have very young babies/children but there are plenty of options you can do without abandoning a trolley.

Our car was hit by an abandoned trolley, wasn't cheap to fix either.

Also, worst case scenario, what if said trolley knocked a child over into an oncoming car??? Just put your trolley back!!!!!

Bakedpotatoesfortea · 09/07/2022 16:09

Round my area (nice and posh obvs) people push their shopping home in the trolley, or sometimes move house with them. Then they dump them in the woods or the local park.

Ours stop working not too far from the store. Yours clearly do not!

A 4 year old and 3month old twins !?! I find it deeply concerning that you would be happy to do this you don't know how many seconds/minutes it would take unless you are in the situation, everyone seems to be more concerned about the trolley than the poor stressed mum and her babies the waythelightfalls just leave the doors open and walk off you truly deserve a trophy hilarious.

What do you think is going to happen to your children?

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 09/07/2022 20:45

Some lazy and entitled feckers on this thread.
Most P&C spaces are almost next to the trolley bays.

Pisses me right off .
The number of times I've pulled into a space to find a trolley there... but people are inherently entitled and lazy and couldn't give a flying fuck about other people.

As to being so precious about leaving your kids , strapped in a car... lock them in for the twenty seconds it'll take to put your trolley back.

FreezyFreezy · 09/07/2022 20:46

Wouldloveanother · 09/07/2022 16:27

So who should be arsed? Or would you be happy for everyone to do it and you have to drive around them all as you park?

The lad who is paid to put them away. I know him and it is actually his job to put the trolleys away. I drive an old banger so not really fussed if it gets bashed.

I am realistic…sorry!! Can you remind me when a child was snatched from a supermarket car park whilst a parent was doing the right thing and returning a trolley !!
Car more likely to be hit by another car and burst into flames !! And that is massively unlikely!!

ChinBristles · 09/07/2022 20:49

@FreezyFreezy but what if your trolley recovery guy is not quick enough and your abandoned trolley rolls off and hits another person's car? Or a toddler?

There must be some truly enormous supermarket car parks out there! So vast that it would take several minutes to walk across them. Far too long to leave a child secured in a car seat.
