Who should replace Johnson? Explain your answer.

OP posts:

Shan't. So there. 😠

Anothernamechangeplease · 07/07/2022 10:02

Larry the cat. Because none of the Tories who have supported Boris to date have a shred of integrity.

Tom Tugendhat. Because BloJo hates him.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/07/2022 10:05

And do your journalism for you, nah .

Explain yours 🤷🏻‍♀️

swedex · 07/07/2022 10:09

Rory Stewart!

DiamanteDelia · 07/07/2022 10:09

Tom Tugenhat.

Norugratsatall · 07/07/2022 10:09

Another vote for Larry the cat!

AceofPentacles · 07/07/2022 10:09

Someone from another party, hopefully

Floydthebarber · 07/07/2022 10:12

Michael Gove. Can't stand him but I imagine it would cause Boris Johnson to explode with outrage!

NightmareSlashDelightful · 07/07/2022 10:12

Someone with some ideas and vision. The Tories have been playing the short-term game for too long (decades, really) and it hurts the country. They are always too busy eating their own prime ministers and getting priapic over leadership contests.

I'm struggling to work out what any of them think or believe about anything, beyond the most meaningless soundbites.

Tom Tugenhat.

Just realised I was supposed to give reasons:

  • Intelligent,
  • has integrity,
  • has a proper grasp of the international situation and in particular China and Russia,
  • good speaker with charisma and the ability to persuade,
  • widely respected among MPs and internationally,
  • not tainted by association with Johnson
  • economically sensible and pragmatic,
  • from the Conservatives point of view, a good leader against Keir Starmer. What Keir has to sell is the fact that he's steady and reliable after all these years of turmoil- well, Tom can do the steady and reliable bit and inspire people (which Keir struggles to do). A much better choice than some ERG headbanger.
balalake · 07/07/2022 10:38

Someone who is competent and will have competent ministers. There are only three of the cabinet (as of yesterday morning) who might fit the bill, only two of whom might stand- Nadhim Zahawi and Ben Wallace.

If I was forming a Tory government, Michelle Donallen is the only other cabinet minister I would keep.

I will disagree on almost all aspects of Tory policy, but at least let us have competence and no corruption.

Mr Johnson should be facing a number of criminal charges in my opinion.

I will If you say please

HerRoyalHappiness · 07/07/2022 10:42

Another Larry the cat vote. He has more integrity in his left paw than the entirety of the tory party

Zingy123 · 07/07/2022 10:46

Please God not Raab. He is utterly useless and so condescending.

crumpet · 07/07/2022 10:51

Someone who won’t fuck up the Northern Ireland situation and who will actually look at putting the relationship with the EU on a sensible footing.

darlingdodo · 07/07/2022 10:52

Someone competent, with integrity who truly has the best interests of ALL the people of the UK at heart. Not someone who will bend policy so their tax dodging corrupt mates with their overseas billions make even more billions while ordinary folk prop them up.

Someone with a moral and ethical compass who has the world view to talk intelligently on the world stage.

Someone strong but not belligerent.

Someone without hubris.

Do they exist? No idea. Tugendhat may be the closest fit currently.

Cocacolacazza · 07/07/2022 10:54

My kids head teacher. She is a no nonsense follower of the rules and big supporter of the vulnerable. She's also a bit scary, especially when she tells the parents off in class assemblies for trying to sneaky record it on their phones. Nothing gets past Mrs Parry!

Ncwinc · 07/07/2022 10:55

Can a peer still be the Prime Minister? William Hague.

I agree with all this and I like Tom, but he's never held a cabinet post so would he be deemed too inexperienced?

Ncwinc · 07/07/2022 10:59

I meant Hague as a caretaker until they pick a new leader.

Giggorata · 07/07/2022 10:59

I heard vaguely that Raab is anti choice re abortion, can't find anything about it now… so wouldn't want him.

I agree with all of this. I think he's got charisma, but also principles. He voted Remain, he's intelligent and Boris can't stand him!
