Things that you expected to love but didn't.

I recently tried watching Strictly Ballroom, with the expectation that I'd love it because it ticked so many boxes for me but I didn't enjoy it.

Likewise the Shirley Jackson book, We Have Always Lived In The Castle. It didn't do anything for me and yet so many people rave about it so it's obviously me not the book.

Which things did you think you'd love but didn't?

New Zealand.

Anytime I've been anywhere people describe as 'amazing' I've generally been very bored.

I am completely unmoved by the wonders of the world. I like people and shops.

Cheese cake
and Twinkies. They were advertised on the back of Archie comics. I finally got to try one a few years ago - yuck.

The huge single bed size beanbag I'd been eyeing up for ages. The pics looked so cosy with a woman snuggled into it as it cupped her supportively whilst she lounged with a blanket over her whilst she read a book and her beautiful little dog nestled beside her all whilst facing a window where it appeared to be raining outside.

I wanted to snuggle in it and read.... When it arrived it was so disappointing and weighed an absolute tonne so the constant readjustements needed each time you so much as looked at it never mind sat on it were bloody hard. Yes you could lay back into it but due to the torn bits of memory foam crap inside you sank right down to the bottom whilst it just spunked the foam out from under you to the sides. Even ordering 10kg extra padding didn't help that much. Getting out of it each time left nothing to the imagination either.... More like escaping a huge vat of angel delight whilst the dog thinks your flailing limbs mean you're fair game and playing so leaps up and knocks you right back to where you'd been trying to escape out of.

In the end it was put the house within less than a year and collected by the large waste people from the council cos no charity shop wanted to collect it and moving it was just too difficult.

Conversations with friends (loved Normal People so thought I would like it but found it so boring).
Agree with pps about Bridgerton Series 2 - so underwhelming compared to series one!!
Also agree re. Five Guys. I’m a vegetarian options and the veggie ‘burger’ was just salad in a bun!!
Going abroad. I love the idea of it but in reality I just find it stressful (language barrier, unfamiliar environment/food etc, dramatic change in climate, long travelling times) so I prefer holidaying in the UK.

Cocaine. Being a dedicated druggie in my younger years the PR surrounding it made me think it would be great. Horrible. Just talk shit for hours and cuts you off from everything. UGH!

🤣🤣🤣

Me too- just made me talk utter shite and run to the loo. I often wonder why it endures.

MissConductUS · 26/06/2022 01:17

Spoiler: it wasn't.

Going out. I often find myself sitting at events wondering why the fuck I'm not at home with the dog.

DatasCat · 19/11/2022 23:17

Jodie Whittaker as Doctor Who.

I wanted to like her, I really did. And I don’t think it was any reflection on her acting, but the role really didn’t work for her. Mostly down to the rubbish writing and misconceived plots.

Ladyof2022 · 20/11/2022 06:12
