Things that you expected to love but didn't.

I recently tried watching Strictly Ballroom, with the expectation that I'd love it because it ticked so many boxes for me but I didn't enjoy it.

Likewise the Shirley Jackson book, We Have Always Lived In The Castle. It didn't do anything for me and yet so many people rave about it so it's obviously me not the book.

Which things did you think you'd love but didn't?

Also yoga and Pilates.

UndertheEagle · 25/06/2022 21:31

Oysters. Like eating a mouthful of lumpy, cold seawater.

(The @Mrsjayy was about Strictly ballroom and muriel's wedding. Everything else was a x-post)

I know various people that struggled with Muriel's Wedding but watched again and loved it. It is my all time favourite film (didn't finish it the first time though).

That one beanbag that i sat in at a 'casual' meeting ,
it looked so big and comfy and a better option than the spinny IKEA egg chair or the wooden fold out one but was really loosly packed so my arse immediatly hit the floor and my knees were up under my chin, and it sort of flumped up behind me so I looked like I was being eaten.
Had to stay on it for two hours

See I thought I liked it but on my second watch it just irritated me.

Power of the Dog
Wildly expensive miracle frizz products - yet I never learn. Virtue Frizz Block smells of vimto, made my hair sticky, and cost 44 quid.

PeanutCat1 · 25/06/2022 21:44

Dyson Airwrap - I really wanted to love this but it really didn't work for me

Joseph Joseph toilet brush - a bitterly disappointing purchase

Benefit roller lash mascara

Calphurnia · 25/06/2022 21:45

Gong bath. I love 'woo' shit usually, but this left me cold

orangetriangle · 25/06/2022 21:46

oysters
prosecco

SusieSimpleman · 25/06/2022 21:46

A visit to Bruges. Dirty, smelly rivers and full of overpriced chocolate shops all selling the same tourist stuff.

strawberriesarenot · 25/06/2022 21:46

WFH

It never ends.

Neverendingdust · 25/06/2022 21:47

What’s with the constant MN hate for Biscoff? It’s actually divine, how on earth can anyone not like it? It gets slammed on any threads like this one 🤷🏻‍♀️

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 25/06/2022 21:47

Avocados
Wagamamas
Poldark
Call The Midwife
Richmond sausages
Period pants

longtompot · 25/06/2022 21:50

Solero Mojito. Love both Soleros and Mojitos but these were disgusting. Had lime rind in the sorbet centre which was all kids of wrong

Heytheredeliah · 25/06/2022 21:54

Krispy Kreme - everyone raves about them and I was so disappointed when I tried one
Being in a sauna for the first time- it was so warm I just had to get out
Nails Inc nail varnish-not as good as I expected

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 25/06/2022 21:56

YY to LaLa Land -the whole of Hollywood to pick from, and neither of the leads could sing. Painful. Perversely, though, Pierce Brosnan’s unashamedly terrible singing in Mamma Mia makes me laugh every time.

Sicily, especially Palermo
Hot air ballooning - it was ok but wouldn’t bother again
Beaches - I tried really hard to get into beach life when I lived in California. I failed. 10 minutes in, and I’m always sandy, too hot or cold, and bored.

Clevs · 25/06/2022 21:56

Nando's
KFC

Mrsjayy · 25/06/2022 21:57

Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I refused to try them for several years because I thought they would be so delicious that I would crave them, and that would be bad for my waistline because I have no willpower. Then I tried one and it was horrible.
