Things that you expected to love but didn't.

I recently tried watching Strictly Ballroom, with the expectation that I'd love it because it ticked so many boxes for me but I didn't enjoy it.

Likewise the Shirley Jackson book, We Have Always Lived In The Castle. It didn't do anything for me and yet so many people rave about it so it's obviously me not the book.

Which things did you think you'd love but didn't?

I have to add Download. I'm happy that I went because I got to see and meet my favourite band but I didn't return for day 2 and 3 even though some of my favourite bands were performing. This was partly because I have disabilities and I was in agony afterwards for days but also I didn't enjoy the experience as a whole. The mud, omg the mud. I knew that there'd be mud but I didn't realise how bad it'd be or just how far I'd have to walk. I hated the crowdsurfers and moshpits and it generally just isn't for me.

My hotel was in the centre of Nottingham and instead of going back to Download I spent the next 3 days limping around Nottingham visiting the cat cafe, a chocolate themed cafe, some lovely Korean and Japanese restaurants and a few bookstores that were all within 10 minutes of my hotel. Pain asides, I had a lovely time in Nottingham which I liked more than I expected, but that's another thread.

I bought a Nintendo 3DS and one of the (then) current Pokemon games wanting to relive my youth, where I spent hours staring into a tiny gameboy screen, honing my team to become a Pokemon Master. Instead I groaned about every random battle, had no patience for level grinding, didn't like any of the new mons, and holding the run button hurt my thumb. Made me realise my youth is truly dead.

(The @Mrsjayy was about Strictly ballroom and muriel's wedding. Everything else was a x-post)
