Words MN has made you dislike

Just reading through a couple of threads, and realised that, due to their (over)use on MN, there are some words that now make my teeth itch.

Words like 'gentle' (I see it as quite PA) and 'yummy' (always makes me think of some Lycra clad female jogging with a pushchair for some reason).

Am I alone in this, or do others have words they've come to dislike too?

Gentle for sure! Very passive aggressive.
Hubster
Nice ham
Take yourself off to.....usually a spa...not a word I know.
Cross, I never hear anyone say it in real life.
Pamper...just no !!
Picky bits...no, no and thrice no!

Pfaffingabout · 07/06/2022 20:35

Picky bits! Not that I ever heard it used outside MN, but it really grates on me.🍢🍖🧀😅

Vile

’naice’ - I just can’t picture what this means. Actually nice or pretentiously nice. Luxurious or flash. ‘Naice’ on MN is really beyond me (and therefore I dislike it).

Thereisnolight · 07/06/2022 20:40

”Just no” annoys me.…

SoggyPaper · 07/06/2022 20:41

Picky bits and dippy eggs (never heard either in real life)

PuffyMcPuffFace · 07/06/2022 20:43

Yep, picky tea. Urgh.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 07/06/2022 20:44

"Wobble" as in "give your head a wobble". Horrible. Makes me think of Mr Blobby (may he burn in hell).

Mummysgogetter · 07/06/2022 20:46

Eating carbs and crap, metabolism and hormones in one sentence makes me want to gag

SmiledWtherisingsun · 07/06/2022 20:46

Goady

CuriousCatfish · 07/06/2022 20:47

Super

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 07/06/2022 20:48

Overuse of the superlative 'super'.

'Gift', 'gifted' or 'gifting' instead of present, gave or giving.

And the very worst of all, 'sat' or 'stood' when it should be sitting or standing, when used in the context of present tense - even professional writers and broadcasters are now committing this appalling crime and, sadly, it is a growing menace.

XenoBitch · 07/06/2022 20:50

All the DH, DP, DD, DS etc stuff. It doesn't exist outside of MN (as far as I can tell).

GeorgiaMcGraw · 07/06/2022 20:50

If I may add two phrases rather than words: "Wow. Just wow." and "Did you mean to be so rude?" Even just the word "wow" now annoys me.

CuriousCatfish · 07/06/2022 20:50

Cooking from scratch
Batch cooking.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/06/2022 20:52

Prepped. Nothing is prepared anymore.

TheAntiGardener · 07/06/2022 20:54

Vile - great word ruined by being overused, and often wrongly, on here. Someone described a fairly innocuous difference of opinion as vile the other day.

In a similar vein, phrases like dog whistle and purity spiral which started off life as useful concepts and are now liberally applied to anything some posters disagree with.

titsintiers · 07/06/2022 20:55

I particularly loathe when people say their washing has been darker on. Tits the lot of them.

Also who substituted super for very? There's nothing wrong with very. Nothing at all.

orwellwasright · 07/06/2022 20:56

Ddog. You know the abbreviation is supposed to make things shorter, right?

A580Hojas · 07/06/2022 20:56

Conflate.
