Words MN has made you dislike

Just reading through a couple of threads, and realised that, due to their (over)use on MN, there are some words that now make my teeth itch.

Words like 'gentle' (I see it as quite PA) and 'yummy' (always makes me think of some Lycra clad female jogging with a pushchair for some reason).

Am I alone in this, or do others have words they've come to dislike too?

Pension pot
or any other kind of pot referring to finances.

Ha me too

CloudPop · 07/06/2022 21:16

Just wow. What a mind blowingly irritating statement.

warofthemonstertrucks · 07/06/2022 21:17

Idespairofthehumanrace-the misuse of sat is the worst. It's been driving me insane for years. I actually had a row with dd the other day when she tried to tell me I was wrong about it. It's everywhere!!

darisdet · 07/06/2022 21:17

I have to agree that the darked on washing, and spider willies, has been overdone!

washingwakeup · 07/06/2022 21:21

So many, but off the top of my head:

Mental load
Division of labour
Spends
Pool - as in money

washingwakeup · 07/06/2022 21:22

Oh, and "are you on glue?"

Sleepingsatellite1 · 07/06/2022 21:23

Fucking ‘Twas’ especially the phrase ‘Twas ever thus’ 🤮

Goady makes me cringe like everyone is just so easily tipped over the edge by a post

Vile is overused

And the phrase ‘I hope you don’t have kids’ usually said over something minor you disagree on parenting wise, very ott

‘Going no/low contact’

Sleepingsatellite1 · 07/06/2022 21:23

Oh and ‘Hairy knuckles’

FictionalCharacter · 07/06/2022 21:25

Lighthearted. It often seems to mean “I’m starting a debate on something interesting that is worthy of serious discussion. Actually no I’m not taking it seriously at all!”

I quite like “the ick”! Great phrase to describe the feeling.

whatsnewpussycat34 · 07/06/2022 21:25

Mom

It's mum!!

Adventurine · 07/06/2022 21:26

Picky tea.

My SIL says this in real life. "Oh, we're just having a picky tea tonight."

Makes me want to scream

Picky tea.

I’d have her arrested

AnElegantChaos · 07/06/2022 21:28

More of a phrase....didn't want to read and run.

gandalf456 · 07/06/2022 21:29

snowflake

Adventurine · 07/06/2022 21:30

Ddog!! Just say dog! It's so twee and ridiculous. And Dcat. Not every living thing needs the addition. I've yet to see someone refer to themselves as Dme

PuffyMcPuffFace · 07/06/2022 21:33

whatsnewpussycat34 · 07/06/2022 21:25

Mom

It's mum!!

Not if you're from the West Midlands it's not!

titsintiers · 07/06/2022 21:37

Also when the relevant expert wanders in and deigns to grace the post with their presence... e.g teacher here, man here etc

Thank fuck the cavalry is here.....

Discovereads · 07/06/2022 21:39

Handmaiden.

SunflowerGardens · 07/06/2022 21:41

'Why did you marry a man child?' maybe because they didn't realise he was going to turn into a lazy useless lump and leave her to do all the work with the kids because they didn't have a fucking crystal ball?

esoryelneh · 07/06/2022 21:43

Cross. No one in real life says that (well not around me anyway.) just sounds so old fashioned 'I'm so cross!'

I'm pissed off sounds much better.

Hubby
Picky bits
Taxi (no idea why. It's a perfectly normal word. I just say cab)
Gently (passive aggressive)
'This.'
Misogynistic (seems like everyone's buzzword)

HandbagsnGladrags · 07/06/2022 21:44

'You knew he had kids when you married him'

Ok that's lots of words strung together but please fuck off.

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 21:45

Cool girl or cool wife

Sorry @esoryelneh, I say I’m cross. It means something different to pissed off - which I also say.

esoryelneh · 07/06/2022 21:45

Also one to add. It's not a word but when people say 'I've been communicating with my friend via email / send your friend and email'

Just text the person god damn

IDreamOfTheMoors · 07/06/2022 21:50

BorisJohnsonsvomitbucket · 07/06/2022 20:38

Hubby
Mom
Vile

Most of the USA call their moms “Mom,” @BorisJohnsonsvomitbucket, FYI.

I don’t know why that would be so irritating to you.

MartinReubyUnsungHero · 07/06/2022 21:51

Tinkly laugh.

Ugh.
