Words MN has made you dislike

Just reading through a couple of threads, and realised that, due to their (over)use on MN, there are some words that now make my teeth itch.

Words like 'gentle' (I see it as quite PA) and 'yummy' (always makes me think of some Lycra clad female jogging with a pushchair for some reason).

Am I alone in this, or do others have words they've come to dislike too?

"Cross" is a perfectly good and useful word. I use it a lot. Doesn't really have ab exact synonym?

I don't like "spidey senses" or the equivalent "trust your gut." Most people's gut feelings are way off...

And, yes, nothing wrong with explaining you have anxiety as context to a situation. I don't like when posters are being clearly unreasonable and then use "but I have anxiety" as an excuse as to why they should have been allowed to have been an arsehole to someone.

Unsure. "Dh says we should all piss in a bucket to save the planet, but I'm unsure."
Almost always used by someone totally wet who needs a good shake.

Hear hear to the word 'super', as in 'I was super excited'.

No. Just no.

No. Just no.

this is the worst!!

saraclara · 12/06/2022 08:05

Unhinged. I'm amazed that only one other person has mentioned it.

Vile
Grim

Definitely, as in "He's definitely having an affair". It's weird how random MNers know for certain what's happening in the lives of people they've never met.

MN made me dislike the word moist. I had never realized how many people actively detest this word until I read its connotations on here.

Narc makes me think of narcotics. It would make more sense (to me) if it was 'nars' and yes, everyone and their dog is a narcissist these days.

Hushitas and smellies make me heave.

Iwasjustasking · 12/06/2022 08:23

@TambourineOfRepentance we write it mom, we say it mom and our Mother’s Day cards even have mom on them!

I loathe the use of 'menz' and 'wimmin' on the feminist boards. It is so patronising to both men and women.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 12/06/2022 13:12

Dealbreaker and game changer.

Bunfight always makes me think.of the time Camilla Parker-Bowles was pelted with bread rolls in Chippenham Sainsbury after the Camillagate tapes were leaked in the papers.

How could I possibly have forgotten 'agency'

Ugh

TheChippendenSpook · 14/06/2022 19:50

Bloods and meds are others that annoy me. It's ok if you work in the medical field but otherwise they just annoy me.

User48751490 · 14/06/2022 20:54

Odd.

User48751490 · 14/06/2022 20:58

Neighbor.

Wrong just wrong!

LaMarschallin · 14/06/2022 21:04

"Birthing" or "birthed".
So much trickier than just having a baby.

"Bits & pits"

washingwakeup · 21/06/2022 09:12

Convo.

Not specific to MN, and not even a real word, but it's here I see it written the most.

TammyOne · 21/06/2022 12:47

Local!

"We went to the local park and afterwards we had burger in the local McDonalds and I picked up some cherries in the local greengrocer..."

Of course it was bloody local to you, it doesn't need saying!
I don't know why this enrages me?!

Agree so much! It makes me strangely embarrassed. Also ‘blue lighted’ and always ‘rushed’ to hospital, never just ‘taken’.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 21/06/2022 14:20

When an OP identifies someone - eg 'let's call them XYZ'. I fell like typing 'Oh yes! Let's!'
And when a child is described as 'little one'.
Unreasonable, I know. But I dislike both a lot.

Pan fried- You shoved some type of food in a frying pan, stop being pretentious

You sound lovely- Used as a way to show you don't agree with someone's opinion.
Please- As in recipe ideas please, baby name suggestions please .

Yes, little one or LO.

Also hate 'think'. As in "DP has a time consuming hobby. Think sailing the Antarctic"

Just tell me or don't!

Being hormonal - apparently causes a multitude of problems.
