Words MN has made you dislike

Just reading through a couple of threads, and realised that, due to their (over)use on MN, there are some words that now make my teeth itch.

Words like 'gentle' (I see it as quite PA) and 'yummy' (always makes me think of some Lycra clad female jogging with a pushchair for some reason).

Am I alone in this, or do others have words they've come to dislike too?

Tinkly laugh
Head tilt
Wow just wow

LisaSimpson77 · 07/06/2022 20:57

Ha ha I read the title and came on to say "gentle"
The word now makes me want to smack people non-gently round the chops!!

Also, "reached out" is quite a specific phrase but now gets used to mean "contacted" in any form which irritates the hell out of me.

And finally (for now) "lips"
Which is a completely bizarre one to hate and I can offer no logical explanation 🤷🏿‍♀️

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 07/06/2022 20:58

The highly irritating and widespread use of your when you're is meant.

Constantly reading I'm sat or I was sat when I am sitting or I sat is meant. Absolutely fucking sick to death of reading these on Mumsnet.

Ddog. You know the abbreviation is supposed to make things shorter, right?

😂😂😂 and don't leave dcat out!!

Userforever · 07/06/2022 20:58

Exactly

user1474315215 · 07/06/2022 21:00

Boundaries. Never come across this before MN.

PinkiOcelot · 07/06/2022 21:00

San pro! Can’t stand it.

Snickerdoodlecabbagepatch · 07/06/2022 21:02

I can't believe no one has said toxic yet!

EggRollsForever · 07/06/2022 21:03

"unpick"

CuriousCatfish · 07/06/2022 21:03

Woke

CuriousCatfish · 07/06/2022 21:04

Grey Rock
Narc

SweetPetrichor · 07/06/2022 21:05

Gaslight…cause nobody actually seems to understand what it actually means.

Vile
Poorly
Fuming

BabbitAndBink · 07/06/2022 21:06

"This"
Lashings

Proper

EightisEnough · 07/06/2022 21:06

Pension pot
or any other kind of pot referring to finances.

RagingWoke · 07/06/2022 21:06

I have a couple of MN specific ones:
'Vast majority'- it's been so over used recently and generally means that posters opinion.

And 'through the roof' get an instant eye roll

CatNamedEaster · 07/06/2022 21:06

Balayage. I hate the word so much that I'm not even going to check if it's spelt correctly.
Never heard of it before seeing it on here, I know what it IS and quite like the look, I just think it's the most bizarre word you could invent to describe how hair has been dyed. Maybe someone will come along to explain how it comes from the Latin "balay" for "colour" and "age" for "at the end" then I might accept its logic.😁

CuriousCatfish · 07/06/2022 21:07

Cherry toms
Posh chocs

Featuredcreature · 07/06/2022 21:07

When someone says "loose weight" reminds me of the Dr who episode with the cute little fat blobs running amok. That's not really a mn thing though, it's everywhere.

I hate vile, it was only good in gimme gimme gimme. I agree with pp darked on and spiders willy was excruciatingly cringy even at the time.

"you sound like hard work" supercilious cunts.

crj123 · 07/06/2022 21:09

Naice
Grim

SuziSecondLaw · 07/06/2022 21:09

This probably won't go down well, but, 'abusive'..

It just feels like everyone's partners (or they themselves) are abusive. It's so incredibly overused now. Every little thing is a sign of abuse apparently 😒

I know people need to be more aware, but bloody hell, it's a bit much.

GrazingSheep · 07/06/2022 21:10

Jacket potato.
Spidey senses.

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 21:12

Pander
Ick - getting the ink even more so
Calmly
Gently
Mil

darisdet · 07/06/2022 21:13

Another who dislikes 'picky bits'.

Or 'bits' used for gifts they've bought or shopping done.

I don't mind naice (ham, etc) but some think it's a bit of a cliche.

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 21:14

Oh and nonce, which is a disgusting word in any context but is used in a particularly gross way here.

StupidUsernameUnavailable · 07/06/2022 21:14

Phrase more than word:

Educate yourself.
