Words MN has made you dislike

Just reading through a couple of threads, and realised that, due to their (over)use on MN, there are some words that now make my teeth itch.

Words like 'gentle' (I see it as quite PA) and 'yummy' (always makes me think of some Lycra clad female jogging with a pushchair for some reason).

Am I alone in this, or do others have words they've come to dislike too?

I find the endless acronyms a bit pointless. We assume your child is dear to you!

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 09/06/2022 16:02

My child is VERY dear to me. Just a few minutes ago, she cost me over £100 in clothes 😂

Oh, oh ..... just thought of another phrase - HEAVY LIFTING. As in who makes all the moves in a relationship ie 'I'd expect him to do all the heavy lifting as I left my family for him' type thing. Just weird.

I'm sorry, but anyone starting their post with "I have anxiety..." makes me immediately scroll on. It usually has nothing to do with the OP.

Glad it's not just me!!
I feel like a cow for doing it but I still do 😬😂

Or when it's used an a get out excuse when the poster won't admit they're in the wrong 'I have anxiety so I'm right!'

Equally when it's used as a response to dismiss a concern 'do you usually have anxiety?'

‘Our little family’ gives me the dry boak.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/06/2022 17:37

picky tea

I'd never heard this expression before reading this thread, but my DP and I call it a 'fractal meal' 😁

OceanbreezeSun · 09/06/2022 17:42

Naice - I don’t really understand what it’s meant to mean? Posh? Something that’s really, really nice? Expensive?

Woo - as in ‘I think my house is haunted, but I’m not the least bit woo’

Give your head a wobble

Ducks in a row

I’ve never heard any of these spoken outside of MN, thank the stars.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/06/2022 17:55

'woo' has been around for a long time off MN. When I was mixing in ghost hunting circles, there was a lot of mention of 'woo' from sceptics!

peoplearepeople · 09/06/2022 18:43

Family money.

Did you mean to be so rude?

Cancel the cheque op.

Blossomtoes · 09/06/2022 18:48

Oh yes, family money.

And measuring a man’s attractiveness by the amount of housework he does - wtf?

Blossomtoes · 09/06/2022 19:09

And my little family 🤮

I’d hate them anyway, but kinda, sorta, gonna, all make me want to slap whichever MNer used them.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/06/2022 09:35

Ditto to ‘gifting’, which I saw all over John Lewis last Christmas. Doubly wince-making since JL is supposed to be naice (😱) and really ought to know better.

SatinHeart · 10/06/2022 09:39

Grim/vile/toxic/livid/narc etc - Basically all the melodramatic statements!

I've noticed that that having a crush on someone is always 'limerance' on MN.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 11/06/2022 16:29

Long story short. Hmm It's meaningless. Stop cutting out vital words.

Tigertigertigertiger · 11/06/2022 16:32

Spidey senses .

And the vile man hating 'mansplaining' and 'manspreading'.

Plus everyone seems to have anxiety.

I agree (but we’re not allowed to say that on MN you know).
