I caught DH making love to our kettle

Obviously this is clickbait. Sorry.

Can anyone recommend a really durable electric kettle?

In the last five/six years or so we've had a breville and a Russell and Hobbs, both of which have started leaking. Surely kettles should last longer than that!

Will you be needing a large or small spout, OP?

MrsMAgain · 03/06/2022 13:39

I would just like to hear his explanation when he turns up at A&E with it stuck.

Well Dr, I was just going to make my DW a cup of tea, when I tripped and fell on to the kettle.

namechangeididtoo · 03/06/2022 17:20

Had my kitchen aid one for six years now
very hard water
kettle still going strong

angela99999 · 03/06/2022 17:34

We've given up on electric kettles and just heat one on the hob now.
If I were to get another I'd get a glass one so that I could see how scaled up it was - it only takes a few minutes to descale a kettle with Kilrock or whatever.

angela99999 · 03/06/2022 17:37

(Ours is Le Creuset stainless steel too, the enamel ones don't last).

SobranieCocktail · 04/06/2022 08:53

Ah! Tragically I think this is my most responded to post. Clickbait works. So it looks like we should either go for a cheapo one (kind of makes sense, as they have fewer features to go wrong?). Or a Dualit.

It's frustrating that durability or even repairability doesn't feature on any of the best kettle lists out there. I am wistful for the days of the 30+ year old Swan kettle given as a wedding gift.

Thanks for all your replies and forbearance at being swizzed. I'm going to relay your very helpful info to DH when he's finished fixing his bike... He's been taking an awfully long time, and the grunting and puffing is something else!

I’m almost reluctant to suggest this given your title, but I have a Smeg kettle and highly recommend!

We gave up long ago and have had a stainless steel Le Creuset stovetop kettle for about 15 years. It still looks like new (and whistles!).

angela99999 · 28/03/2023 07:45

Ooops, have just seen I posted this when the thread was first live...

Zofloraqueen27 · 28/03/2023 08:43

Phew! Thank heavens for that- for one horrible moment a picture flashed through my mind - talk about a hot todger.🥺

SobranieCocktail · 31/03/2023 14:51

By weird coincidence, the resurrection of this zombie thread seems to have killed off my "new" (since June) kettle. Damn you Morphy Richards.

Sorry to hear about your kettle! If you can, read the Which report on kettles, it seems that cheaper ones last just as long as the expensive ones. I had a lovely looking and expensive Bosch one with lasted just one day longer than the one year guarantee, but had a smaller sized cheap Breville for more than 10 years in the room that I let to visitors.
Or perhaps now is the time to bite the bullet and get a stovetop version? You may never need to buy another...
