I caught DH making love to our kettle

Obviously this is clickbait. Sorry.

Can anyone recommend a really durable electric kettle?

In the last five/six years or so we've had a breville and a Russell and Hobbs, both of which have started leaking. Surely kettles should last longer than that!

We’ve had our dualit 12 years and counting, and are in a very hard water area.

WildFlowerBees · 01/06/2022 07:38

His pecker will fall off if he keeps putting in the spout, he'll need some cream for that op.

Maerchentante · 01/06/2022 07:39

I have a Bosch kettle, which is now about five years old. Got it on special offer at Robert Dyas.
However, we have a water softener in the flat so hardly any lime scale in the kettle.

MaxiPaddy · 01/06/2022 07:40

I hope no one helps just out of principle.

thewooster · 01/06/2022 07:41

You swine OP! I made my coffee ready to read a juice story about your perverted willy owner.

My recommendation: a Russell Nobbs 😀

KatyN · 01/06/2022 07:43

We switched to a stove too kettle. No heating element to get scaled up.
Game changer (well that's quite strong but it is lovely tea)

floppybit · 01/06/2022 07:43

I had a Russell Hobs and it started leaking, bought the cheapest one in Tesco for £6 to tide me over and it's still going strong 5 years later. Basically, buy a cheap no brand kettle!

TheFutureIs · 01/06/2022 07:45

My Kenwood Kmix one lasted about 10 years (until my mum dropped it when we moved and cracked the handle)
Replaced with a Sage one. Both were at the expensive end of kettles, but I prefer to buy better and have it last longer.
Sage one feels very sturdy, and does a cute little ding when it boils

Yutes · 01/06/2022 07:47

Nothing to add but kettles can be bloody expensive Angry

SatinHeart · 01/06/2022 07:47

I had a cheapy asda grey plastic kettle that lasted over 10 years! I was in shared housing for some of that time, I don't think anyone shagged it...😊
Had a couple of Russell Hobbs once since which have been ok but the lids jammed eventually due to limescale

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 01/06/2022 07:47

Where does it leak from? I've never had a kettle leak, or break for that matter.

JennyForeigner · 01/06/2022 07:47

Sounds... steamy

JustTheOneSwan · 01/06/2022 07:50

The Asda cheapo got best but a few times in Which? We have it it's fast and easy to descale, used to be £7 but probs a bit more now. Will still be cheaper than two Costa.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/06/2022 07:52

The Bosch version of the KitchenAid one,in fact it's far better than it.

JustTheOneSwan · 01/06/2022 07:53

Just checked £7.50 now, likely costs more in electricity to boil it full.

Nameandgamechange123 · 01/06/2022 07:54

I'm so disappointed. I really needed this to be about your husband and your kettle. It would have really cheered me up🤣

Tryhard40 · 01/06/2022 07:55

Ooh, imagine the scalds if it accidentally turned on!

Dualit - expensive but I had my last one for ten years and this most recent one for 6 and going strong.

Ueydayblue · 01/06/2022 07:56

Dualit- paid around £65 from John Lewis at least 15 years ago...Still going strong and still looks good

newnamethanks · 01/06/2022 07:56

I am under the impression that all Dualit appliances can be repaired? Take it apart, replace the faulty part, it should be OK. And if not, ask Dualit about the lifetime guarantee. But check first, I may be wrong.

BrylcreamBeret · 01/06/2022 07:57

I switched to a hot water dispenser last year and I will never go back. On a side note, have the issues between your husband and the kettle cooled down now? 😁😁

Gliblet · 01/06/2022 07:57

😁Nice technique.

We have insanely hard water but our Salter pyramid kettle seems to be coping well with it, we've had it for years now and it still boils, pours, and descales well.

SickKid · 01/06/2022 07:57

I'm disappointed OP - I was looking forward to my first ever did ye aye 😂

chipsandpeas · 01/06/2022 07:59

mins is a cheap black/silver one from either asda or argos and has lasted 12 years

FlamingoQueen · 01/06/2022 08:00

Do not waste your money on a Smeg kettle. One year later and the steam has damaged the coating and it looks awful. Total waste of money and will never treat myself to an expensive kettle again!

NothingIsWrong · 01/06/2022 08:00

I have a Le Creuset stove top one and it's lasted 10 years so far
