I caught DH making love to our kettle

Obviously this is clickbait. Sorry.

Can anyone recommend a really durable electric kettle?

In the last five/six years or so we've had a breville and a Russell and Hobbs, both of which have started leaking. Surely kettles should last longer than that!

DD boiled milk in our stupid expensive one 🙄

Went out and literally bought a £5 Tesco one (made for student flats etc). It’s been going SIX years!

Cheap cookworks from Argos. About 5 years and still going (touch the wood).
The more expensive ones we used to have lasted 2-3 years max

toastfiend · 01/06/2022 08:06

We've got a De'Longhi Icona kettle. Bit pricier than some, but we've had it 8 years, including 7 house moves where it's been bashed about, as well as living in massively hard water areas, and it's still going strong and looks good. DH is a hot drinks fiend so it's seen some heavy use, but perhaps not in the way you suggested in your title... 😂 I'd buy one again if/when this one eventually dies.

Furries · 01/06/2022 08:08

Dualit kettle, just over 10 years, hard water area. Dualit toaster is the same age and still going strong - just in case your husband wants toast after doing the deed!

james2010 · 01/06/2022 08:09

😂😂

SafariPark · 01/06/2022 08:13

Another vote for dualit. Ours gets the hardest water going and seems to truck on with only the occasional descale.

NotQuiteUsual · 01/06/2022 08:15

I was so interested to hear the logistics of kettle fucking. Now I'm just disappointed in you and myself.

I was hoping foraTake A Break style posed photo with a kettle and sad looking woman and children...

I usually buy one for about £20 in Argos. Never had one leak. We tend to break our kitchen appliances in other bizarre ways. (DH once ran over the microwave for example...)

You cannot leave that like that.

AnneKipankitoo · 01/06/2022 08:17

Steamy sex session alert .
Russel Knobs .

Current kettle here is a Bosch from John Lewis . ( £120? ) Our previous one was a Russel Hobbs (£50in 1994) and we replaced it last year when it stopped working.

WonderingWanda · 01/06/2022 08:21

Is your dh quite heavy handed? Geniune question as my parents get through a lot of kettles because my df slams them down on the base rather heavy handedly. It's usually the bit thst tells you how many cups on the side that leaks. Maybe try one which doesn't have that option.

CounsellorTroi · 01/06/2022 08:22

our 7 year old Breville still works. The automatic switch off doesn’t work but it still boils water and no leaks.

AWOL66 · 01/06/2022 08:22

Morphy Richards pyramid style kettle and matching toaster still going strong 9 years on. I do decale it every now and then with citric acid but I really trust this brand

OP, I feel your pain. We paid ridiculous money for a Dualit kettle to match the toaster and it rusted through in 18 months. The Dualit toaster's timer then got stuck, the toast caught fire and it nearly burned down the kitchen. Dualit didn't want to know about either.

I grabbed a £10 kettle in Sainsbury's while we decided on something better. It's plastic, which I dislike intensely, but it's still going strong five years later. The cheap interim toaster is still going too and toasts better than the Dualit ever did.

withiceplease · 01/06/2022 08:23

I've never bought a kettle more than £40 and all lasted years so I really don't think u need to spend £££. You have just been unlucky. I usually get rid of them because of their finish going around the spout.
Longest lasting is a DeLonghi. 20 years and in daily use (gave to a friend)

IncompleteSenten · 01/06/2022 08:26

I'm genuinely disappointed.

I...I need to log off for a while 😁

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/06/2022 08:27

My kettles last 2 years, if I'm lucky I'll get 3 out of them. Doesn't matter what make cheap or expensive. I think it has to do with the water hardness. I'm hoping this Bosch one I have atm will last as it's very easy to clean which might help. I did notice the jump in price, kettles suddenly got really dear! We had vouchers which helped.

Sswhinesthebest · 01/06/2022 08:28

He obviously wants a new, younger model than you!

Probably just after arm candy. (Do Candy make kettles? - I know they do fridges)

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 01/06/2022 08:31

Dualit with the replaceable element

we used to have a stove top but the gas prices Makes it significantly more expensive to use now

balalake · 01/06/2022 08:33

No suggestions.

Let's see if the Paper that Supported the Blackshirts pick this thread up.

I stopped buying Russell Hobbs years ago, everything seemed to conk out after 13 months. The kettle, and toaster, I have are both Sainsbury's own brand and as we've lived here the last 12 years and they came with us, I think they've been reliable! The kettle has a nice wide spout too, in case your DH feels the urge!

Cailin66 · 01/06/2022 08:39

Mine's a Tefel. Not cheap nor expensive. Works perfectly for years. Despite having a water softener it is descaled with vinegar regularly.

Nottogetapenny · 01/06/2022 08:39

We’ve had our Dualit kettle for a few years, then just out of guarantee it stopped working. We got another, lasted a little bit longer than the first , but again not the time I would of expected, given the price! We have a Bosch now, after 3 years still working!

mumda · 01/06/2022 08:50

Write reviews of the kettles if you can find anywhere to do that.
The cheapest kettle supermarkets do work fine. And at least don't cost too much.

Mumsnut · 01/06/2022 08:54

Maybe your kettles start to leak so soon because they really are being ... loved too much?
