I caught DH making love to our kettle

Obviously this is clickbait. Sorry.

Can anyone recommend a really durable electric kettle?

In the last five/six years or so we've had a breville and a Russell and Hobbs, both of which have started leaking. Surely kettles should last longer than that!

I love my Bosch.

Lamaitresse · 02/06/2022 19:08

Omg a Dualit beyond a shadow of a doubt!!
Ours has been going strong for 15 years and is still fab. Such a good investment. We got the matching toaster at the same time too and it’s also still brilliant.
Would definitely recommend!!

Sallylovesdaisy · 02/06/2022 19:11

I always had the same problem. I stopped buying plastic kettles, it’s always those ones that leak. I stick to metal or glass now and no problems at all. Just make sure to descale frequently

JemimaPiddleDick · 02/06/2022 19:42

We went through so many kettles in such a short space of time we bought a stove top one that sits on the gas hob

sianishere · 02/06/2022 19:49

Dualit for sure. Our Dualit kettle and toaster are still going strong after 12 years.

CountryMouse22 · 02/06/2022 19:58

Be sure to use a limescale remover regularly.

I used to buy expensive kettles, but got fed up with them breaking. This annoyed me, because I'd have to replace the matching kettle and toaster set. Now I just buy a cheap white kettle and toaster, and replace every 12 months. I find the limescale gets bad in all kettles, by 12 months anyway.

probablysaferoutdoors · 02/06/2022 20:40

I've always bought cheapish kettles. I've never outlived a kettle. I've only ever changed kettles when moving and thinking 'I'll spend another £20 on a kettle when I get to the new place'

Justdiscovered · 02/06/2022 20:46

Clearly you need a steamy one

goingback · 02/06/2022 20:49

Dualit (their Classic kettle is repairable) or a bit better for the environment a Breville One Cup to save energy unless you are only boiling what you need every time already

SunflowerGardens · 02/06/2022 20:54

Ffs. I settled down with a beer to read this.

scoobydoo1971 · 02/06/2022 20:57

He clutched her tightly intend of flipping her switch. With sweaty brow and thirsty pursuit...he whispered "I burn for you; you make me boil". He thrust himself into the pool of...limescale swirling water...before his wife burst in screaming "Damn you, the warranty is void now, Dave, and you have second degree blisters". 😁Happy bank holiday everyone. I swear by my light-up Russell Hobbs kettle...or Russell Knobs as I may rename it now.

BlackeyedSusan · 02/06/2022 21:00

Asda kettle

Alb0 · 02/06/2022 21:02

This headline gave me all types of mental images, lol.

wentworthinmate · 02/06/2022 21:42

Buy the cheapest and it’s doesn’t matter then. You might get lucky with a long lasting one.

How hard is the water? Not a smutty response, genuine question as that could be what’s killing them off.

Agreed. My water is very soft and I’ve only had to replace my kettle once in 15 years, and tbh it was the outer enamel that was flaking.

Mum lives down south and the water is gross and hard, she seems to go through kettles much quicker.

MrsPetty · 03/06/2022 00:35

Same Dualit for twelve years ….

LoisLane66 · 03/06/2022 02:03

I've had my cream Swan cordless for 14 years and it's still immaculate used a LOT and very quiet in use. I only fill with enough water to make the required number of drinks and descale it once a month by filling 3/4 with water and 1/2 a lemon then boiling and leaving it overnight. Put a post-it note on lid to remind me to empty and wash out a couple of times in the morning. The element is spotless. It cost £4 from Sainsbury's Liphook.

Dibbydoos · 03/06/2022 07:32

When i heard water plcs were having difficulty obtainingvwater treatment chemicals, I bought this www.planetorganic.com/products/osmio-zero-reverse-osmosis-system-black-each. Reverse osmosis gives you the purest water. It is compact and a good byy imo. I have since seen this virginpure.com/smart-home-water-system/?gclid=CjwKCAjwv-GUBhAzEiwASUMm4kR36cxdY6fkPSC9AyYun4p4TE6syv-tModSS0a6O3M2QlsMVlxDHBoCdQYQAvD_BwE not quite the same but filters the water so virtually no scaling.

My observation is if you need a pan of boiling water, it's a bit of a faff, but mine is pretty quick. Replace the thingy that does the filtering/reverse osmosis every 6 months and you're sorted!

SueDeNeem · 03/06/2022 08:43

Get a hot water tap. They're fantastic 🙂

fortheloveofgumball · 03/06/2022 10:07

You just gave me the best laugh of the day 🤣🤣🤣

Justkidding55 · 03/06/2022 10:14

Morphs richards I’ve only ever bought two kettles in my life!? The one I have now is 5 years and going strong.

MrsMAgain · 03/06/2022 13:01

AnneKipankitoo · 01/06/2022 16:26

Are friends electric ? DH’s friends with benefits are.
However @MrsMAgain DH found love and it was a gas ! A little polyamory going on there .
Personally speaking, it’s me that turns the kettle on .

Steamy!

Made me smile. We just buy the cheapest kettle..£5 or £6 from supermarket......last one been going on 7-10 years....

We do this too. The expensive ones we bought didn't last.
