Also in Scotland, no sign of any bunting anywhere ...

weegiemum · 28/05/2022 19:48

No. Last Jubilee in 2012 there was one decorated house in my area of about 16,000 people. Scotland.

Though we're taking advantage of the long weekend to do a duty visit to dfil with dementia in Northern Ireland. Expecting even more flags than usual.

GlitterSparkley · 28/05/2022 19:50

Yep! Buntings gone up
at the front of the house on the drive. I love it!

TenoringBehind · 28/05/2022 20:06

Mine is going up on Wednesday evening.

Oblomov22 · 28/05/2022 20:09

Eh? What are you concerned about?

Down at our caravan in Dorset. Tonnes of people have bunting up. As I drove from Surrey to Dorset there was bunting everywhere.

Femalewoman · 28/05/2022 20:10

I think it's either twee middle class villages, old people's home or deprived areas.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 28/05/2022 20:18

No, I'm going to hang up tiny guillotines instead 👿

LemonLymanDotCom · 28/05/2022 20:21

Golly no. I used the extra long weekend time off work to leave the country & escape all the jingoistic nonsense. Day 2 of my holiday & not seen or heard the word jubilee - phew!

FreezyFreezy · 28/05/2022 20:24

No. No bunting. I live in a very pro-Brexit area and people already have the Union Flag flying everywhere so I shan't be joining in with that. We will be having a BBQ in our garden though so I'm not totally anti- party!

Snowiscold · 28/05/2022 20:26

No. Not seen any bunting up anywhere, and I live in London. No street parties either.

Abracadabra12345 · 28/05/2022 20:30

ChimChimeny · 28/05/2022 18:27

We weren't but then I saw this street near us & decided to buy some. Couldn't get Union Jack so just got red/white/blue.

It's going up tomorrow out the front where the Christmas lights go up usually

That looks lovely

ParkheadParadise · 28/05/2022 20:33

Fuck that shit
No bunting will be anywhere near my house.
I don't know anyone who is planning to celebrate anything to do with auld lizze and her fucked up family.

MiniatureHotdog · 28/05/2022 20:36

Yes. Lots going up around here, and street parties too. Any excuse for a feel good celebration is OK with me. The children are looking forward to the party and did Jubilee themed activities at school all week. I only know of one parent who moaned about it but she just seemed like a fun-sponge as the children had a great time.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 28/05/2022 20:36

My neighbour has and I’m starting to get twitchy; thinking it’s quite possible DS won’t see another one in his lifetime. We are not ardent admirers of royalty and I struggle with the jumble of racism that nationalism seems to have become, but I ought to be making it memorable somehow.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/05/2022 20:39

most of us are very unlikely to have anyone else see 70 years on the throne!

Hell, no.

I might do if the UK ever has enough sense to get rid of the parasites though.

caringcarer · 28/05/2022 20:40

I've got 10 metres of red, white and blue bunting and 6 metres of Queen face bunting going up tomorrow. I bought red, white and blue balloons too. Did not have glasses on and instead of clicking on 10 I bought 100. Sent most in to school. Having a BBQ in garden.

SolvedEnglishComprehension · 28/05/2022 20:41

Fucking love bunting me. Any excuse.

ArtVandalay · 28/05/2022 20:43

It would be a cold day in hell before I hung out bunting.

£28 million of government money on this jubilee bollocks seems grossly insensitive when so many are in genuine poverty now.

2manycats · 28/05/2022 20:51

Absolutely not. It’s bad enough that pretty much my whole teaching week is dedicated to it next week (in Scotland). Although the staff bake off might be nice because cake in school.

TawnyPippit · 28/05/2022 20:58

A couple of roads away there is a house with a nice balcony over their front door and on any royal event they swag it with some purple velvet and gold ropes and periodically wander out with a glass of wine to wave at us passing proles. Awesome!

Kris02 · 28/05/2022 21:05

No, I find the whole thing embarrassing. The royals make me ashamed. They are just a bunch of ugly, vulgar gargoyles. Every time I see one of them on TV it makes me cringe with shame. Also, we have the worst national anthem in the world. I literally have to go out of the room during world cup!

Don't get me wrong, I'm fairly patriotic. But my patriotism is based more on culture. I'm proud of our incredible literary history - our writers, scientists, artists, philosophers and musicians. This is the island that produced Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Blake, Wordsworth, Keats, Jane Austen, Shelley, the Brontes, Dickens, Virginia Woolf. It's the country that produced the Beatles, the Smiths, the Who, David Bowie, the Clash, the Rolling Stones. Two of the most important scientists who ever lived were Brits (Newton and Darwin), and this was the country in which both DNA and the atom were first understood. It's also amazing that this small island contains not one but TWO of the most famous universities in the world. That's what I'm proud of - not an ignorant little oaf like Prince Harry.

That said, I must admit I have a soft spot for the queen. She truly believes in her duty and has never let this country down (unlike the rest of them). In that sense, I guess, she's kind of an inspiration.

TeenPlusCat · 28/05/2022 21:06

I think it is sad that people feel they can't feel good about flying our national flag at a time of celebration because of others attempting to hijack it for political reasons. I find it hard to believe many other countries would have the same attitude.

Well said.

Haudyourwheesht · 28/05/2022 21:32

Nope. Scotland. Union Jack (flag) bunting was up here last week but largely gone now 😉 I don't expect to see much, if any.
