Er no. Also in Scotland. Going to work as normal also, but cheers queenie for the extra annual leave day I'll get to add on.

Was in home bargains earlier today and they had an absolutely overflowing "Union flag and other shit" aisle with no one in it. It's actually sunny today and their other picnic/garden stuff had been picked clean.

Bet you'll take advantage of the bank holiday though..

It’s basically enforced annual leave at my work. Just called public holidays.

kittensinthekitchen · 28/05/2022 18:33

Isn't it still like a week away? Confused

Yep. Idly wondering whether it's possible to die from bunting overload.

Nope. Working all weekend.
I will take advantage of the extra pay though.

Am I supposed to go into work despite the office being shut just because I disagree with the monarchy?

I’m not working an extra day just because I think the monarchy should be disbanded, but I love the notion I’m taking advantage of them!

no bunting here, people would just think I’d start supporting rangers in a predominantly non rangers area.

Well, no because the celebrations start on Thursday.
Anyway if I'm going to the effort to put decorations up I'd like to enjoy them for a while, and putting them up early encourages others to get on with it too!

Dolares · 28/05/2022 18:40

No. I'm in Scotland and would just look like a massive Rangers fan if i did 😆 I live in an area where a big flagpole with a Union flag in your garden permanently, isn't unusual.

Well, obviously! I am very much against the monarchy but not going to cut off my nose to spite my face, plus my workplace is closed anyway (school). I assume even the most ardent Royalists aren't going to spend the extra day off watching back to back documentaries about that lot and kissing pictures of Liz.

girlmom21 · 28/05/2022 18:40

maddiemookins16mum · 28/05/2022 18:41

I have bunting ready to go up tomorrow, plus a Queen Gnome, a Corgie Gnome, and two Guardsmen Gnomes. Three lovely large flower containers with red, white and blue flowers/plants (well sort of purple really) are also out.

speakout · 28/05/2022 18:43

Ha ha.

No, but I live in Scotland. Likely get eggs lobbed at my door for bunting or a union jack.

It's an extra day off, why does it affect when you take your statutory holiday allowance? Is that something specific to your work?

Do you decorate a week before a party usually?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/05/2022 19:04

i couldnt find any bunting today so you are relieved of duties - for now

I only decorate outside for Christmas (lights go up ~3rd week of November and some stay up until Feb) & national celebrations like this.

It's half term, so the bunting has gone up at the start and will come down at the end. A year ago I wouldn't have had the energy or headspace to put a few flags up, so too right I'm celebrating.

WaterBottle123 · 28/05/2022 19:11

No, I don't celebrate parasites

lollipoprainbow · 28/05/2022 19:25

I would if I could find any!! , none of the major supermarkets have had anything remotely jubilee themed.

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 28/05/2022 19:30

No of course not, I'm in Scotland.

Mfsf · 28/05/2022 19:31

Nope , I can’t stand the Union Jack since brexit as I associate it with racism and intolerance and have very little interest in the monarchy .
I since left England and took refuge in Scotland ( best thing I ever did ) so thankfully I hope we don’t see much stuff up here .

Mfsf · 28/05/2022 19:35

IHateWasps · 28/05/2022 16:53

No. I'd sooner shit in my hands and clap but I do love the idea of you asking random Mumsnetters to decorate your house for you.

Best answer ever 😂

LadyDanburysCane · 28/05/2022 19:38

My bunting went up yesterday!

you are right of course.

let me spend the day working, despite instructions from our CEO that the whole office is shut for the day, because it would be taking advantage of the royal family as I disagree with their existence. Normally our bank holidays are floating holidays but not this one.

we also get St. Andrew’s day off and I’m pretty sure those who don’t agree with independence still take it, because, well, we are closed.

Same, I see the Union flag and think "sweaty angry gammon with aggressively stupid views". I will be sheltering in place during the Jubilee weekend, away from all the nonsense.

girlmom21 · 28/05/2022 19:42

@audweb to be fair it sounds like your CEO is the ultimate patriarch if you get St. George's day too Grin
