Hope it does enough for low paid workers.

Yes. And hope the energy companies don't claw it back another way.
Also hope the cliff edge effect is minimised, so that those just outside the threshold for receiving these don't suffer too much although, can't see how they could do that.

Worked it out and as a pensioner will get £750. They said energy bills will go up by £800 in October so it won’t cover that

MarshaBradyo · 26/05/2022 13:12

I just listened to this

No forms to fill, just payment into bank accounts

offsets £1200 rise

I understand what you mean but the payments are one off.

Is that entire package of help being funded exclusively from the proceeds of the windfall tax? For tone, I missed the speech and I'm genuinely asking, not being snotty.

Youreatragedystartingtohappen · 26/05/2022 13:15

I know and accept they can't help everyone but to be a household that has two people working full time and still barely covering outgoings (my wage covers my mortgage, childcare and council tax alone) it's a bit of a kicker to not have more help. It's going to be a bit of a dire year until my son goes to school next September

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 26/05/2022 13:15

I want him to scrap the NI rise!

Who got £200? I received £150 rebate via local council towards energy - is this what they are talking about.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/05/2022 13:16

The £200, now £400 was always coming in the autumn.

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/05/2022 13:16

It looks helpful but unfortunately won't be enough to cover the huge rises... better than what was before I suppose.

Autumn 22 payment. The one we had to then repay over the next few years or so. No longer have to.

Nobody yet. It was meant to be a discount in October (aka when the heating goes on) by way of a £200 loan.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/05/2022 13:17

The energy companies will just increase the standing charge even more. Soon, we'll be paying more for the standing charge than we will for the bloody gas and electric.

Watch this space.

Grotbag81 · 26/05/2022 13:18

TheClitterati the £200 is the October 2022 payment that was a loan and is now a grant.

hopeishere · 26/05/2022 13:19

We get DLA does that mean we will get something?

PriestessofPing · 26/05/2022 13:19

It’s interesting the Daily Mail online listed those three measures (none of which are now repayable) in the body of their article on it but only called one a ‘handout’ and said how much it would cost the treasury. The other two it was not listed as a handout or said how much it would cost. Any guesses which one without reading the article (easily findable in their website)?

Yes, by the looks of it you are entitled to each element of the measures. Rightly.

motogirl · 26/05/2022 13:19

We haven't had £200 yet, when is that due?

I actually don't agree with this, it should have been pro rata on your bill, due to having an energy efficient house £600 is nearly half my predicted bill for 2022 - others need more help than us (plus we earn decent incomes, well he does). We need to talk about it but I think we should donate ours to the food bank

I’m not sure

But it’s an extra 15bn so 37bn in total to help with cost of living crisis

It’s needed by many, the figures are huge though

angieloumc · 26/05/2022 13:20

I'll just get the £400, which won't cover the rise but better than nothing.
However I think there is going to be plenty of 'benefit bashing' starting.
