It'll be for council tax bands A-D so directly to you.

I thought this was for everyone?

No, the £400 is a universal payment. Idk how they are paying it though.

70kid · 26/05/2022 13:49

@Featuredcreature
I read it today as UC ESA & legacy benefits so if you are on the old system of ESA and not moved over to UC you will still get it

Actually the wording is Universal so that may be wrong and it goes to all CT payers.

MayorDusty · 26/05/2022 13:51

Sorry xposted I think it is everyone. Just the £150 to bands A-D.

spuddy56 · 26/05/2022 13:51

Why can't a vulnerable household be a working couple who can't afford to move out of a freezing rental cottage with wind and rain blowing through it. Our house doesn't get above 16 with the heating on a lot of the time. But we won't get help despite rising commute costs, rent costs and house prices hitting us hardest.

It's for all households, not just A to D. So it might come as a bill/account credit, which is probably the simplest way to do it, just put it on every electricity bill later in the year. Saves having to sort out people who don't pay their CT by DD and those who don't pay it due to low income.

Will also remove the temptation for some to spend it on something else if it's just money arriving in a bank account.

Apart from £400.

whereareyousleep · 26/05/2022 13:52

The £400 is paid in 6 payments from October credited to you gas/elec bill or if a prepayment meter it will be given in the form of vouchers to be credited to the meters.

I wonder if a child gets DLA the household will still receive the payment?

You should still get some help.
Do you pay council tax?

No, it's not all cash. Cash implies it can be spent however the recipient wishes. The £400 energy payment goes directly to energy providers. It's important to get this right, otherwise the Right will be spluttering tea into their Daily Heils over toast and marmalade.

ClaudineClare · 26/05/2022 13:55

Too right Dog. Otherwise there'll be bile spewed about beer n' fags and flat screen TVs...

BarbaraofSeville · 26/05/2022 13:56

It's also important to remember that even £1200 is probably less than the amount that utilities (along with food and petrol) have risen over the last few months while wages and benefits have been stagnant for many so no-one's exactly rolling in it.

In April 21 the price cap for average use was around £1100 and the best fixes more like £900, whereas by October, the price cap is expected to be around £2800. People will still be feeling the pinch and seeing a drop in living standards.

Silly question if my SIL is on UC and lives with my MIL (who isn't on UC), can she get the full £600 subsidy for low income families

Maddison12 · 26/05/2022 14:01

ClaudineClare · 26/05/2022 13:49

Don't be silly. You will get the £400 grant, same as everyone else.

If you resent the unemployed, people on low pay, pensioners and the disabled getting a bit of extra on top of this, then I feel sorry for you.

Totally agree 👏 👏 👏

Might as well give up work then…

Ah yes because you'll totally be able to live off of a one-off payment all winter. Give over!

Legofigure · 26/05/2022 14:02

Will households where more than one person is on DLA/PIP get £150 each or is it per household?

Chakraleaf · 26/05/2022 14:02

Won't even cover it tbh

Go on then. I dare you.

Sirzy · 26/05/2022 14:03

The extra £150 for people on DLA will help but it won’t cover the increase in costs for DS let alone those who need a lot more electrical equipment than him (we only have a feeding pump to charge)

I am hoping Child Tax credits will mean we are eligible for the extra £650 too

Zebedee55 · 26/05/2022 14:03

The full package:

  1. One-off disability cost of living payment of £150 to any adult receiving DLA/AA/PIP.

"Many disabled people will also receive the payment of £650 I've already announced, taking their total cost-of-living payments to £800," the chancellor says.

  1. Eight million pensioners to get extra £300
The chancellor announces from the autumn eight million pensioner households will receive an extra winter fuel payment of £300.

  2. All households to get £400 for energy bills as loan scheme scrapped
The chancellor has also made the £200 loan for energy bills a grant that no longer needs to be paid back and increased its sum to £400.

  3. Lowest income households to get one-off payment of £650
Chancellor Rishi Sunak says around eight million of the lowest income households will be sent a one-off payment of £650.

Legofigure · 26/05/2022 14:02

Will households where more than one person is on DLA/PIP get £150 each or is it per household?

My understanding is it will be an extra payment onto every DLA or PIP account so everyone in a household should get it i think

danni0509 · 26/05/2022 14:04

Pebble21uk · 26/05/2022 13:48

ESA does not qualify for the £150 - DLA / PIP and Attendance Allowance does.

@Pebble21uk I don’t get DLA for myself, my 8 year old does. Does that mean we still get the £150 DLA payment if the DLA award is for the child?

anybody know? Thanks

I can see where you’re coming from @LadyCatStark but please don’t feel sorry for me @ClaudineClare. There is little recognition for those who earn just too much for all these benefits, but not enough to be comfortable. What about those of who now work from home, so have increased heating/electricity costs with no option to return to the office full time? 1% pay rise which is swamped up by NI and pension increase. Have to use own vehicle for work and mileage allowance barely covers what’s being spent now. Where is our help? Day after day there are threads on here with people talking about working the minimum hours to claim the maximum benefit help, how is that ethical when other people are working 40/50 hours a week to make ends meet? Yet those who work 16/20 hours will be given more money to help them. It stinks.
