Best concert you’ve been to

Feeling nostalgic and thinking back to my favourite concerts I’ve been to in my time.

Mine would be Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, P!nk, Rihanna, Evanescence, Eminem, Christina Aguilera.

I envy those 10+ years older than me that got to experience some incredible performers such as Michael Jackson, live in concert.

My daughter got us tickets for Rod Stewart at Edinburgh Castle. There we were up on the esplanade when a haar drifted in from the sea and all we coul see was the gold blur of is sequinned jacket. Then a storm erupted and drenched but he kept on singing and we put on clapping and cheering. It was brilliant.

@GreenWillowandCatkins.

How cool is that !

Very cool! I won't mention it to DH, who never got to see Van Halen, despite being a huge fan. I've never been much bothered about them, and went to join the queue for the ladies during Eddie's widdly widdly guitar solo. He was still going when I got back!

Absolute best gig was Ghost at the Kentish Town Forum in March 2017. It was the Popestar tour, they were just big enough to be making an impact but the capacity was only 2,300. It was like Papa was talking to me and me alone <swoon>. I've seen them four more times since, but that first one was very, very special.

@Lonelycrab Slipknot still do the same thing to Spit it Out, it's something to behold in an arena or a muddy field with 80k people all doing the same thing!

@msssm I haven't seen Ricky do the Thin Lizzy stuff yet but really looking forward to it, I think it's next on the list after he finishes the solo tour

@runnerblade95 I wish I was reliving my youth but most of my big memories are from the last few years.........didn't go to many gigs with DH1 as we weren't into the same things, making up for lost time now with current DH and DD 🙂

@richardhammondsgoatee did you see the Wildhearts last autumn? Did you catch the support band by any chance - Those Damn Crows are one of my favourites and amazing........really nice guys as well

Still v jealous of those who saw Bowie, or have seen Bruce and Aerosmith.......

Rammstein and the best I've ever seen because it's pure theatrics.

However, I've seen the Levellers more times than I can count and they've never played me wrong. Such a shame Simon has taken a step back because the man is a legend.

I literally could have written this post.

mewkins · 18/05/2022 12:22

REM, the Rolling Stones and the white stripes.

i saw Bob Dylan in finsbury park in around 1994. He was crap which was very disappointing but Van Morrison and Hot house flowers made up for it. They were fab

I saw Dylan at the Palladium a few years ago and it was amazing. The songs were unrecognisable though 😁

Also saw Van and HHF a couple of years ago and he was on good form. Though he didn't say a word.

Seeline · 18/05/2022 12:42

Without a doubt the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert - so many people performing who are no longer here. And as a PP said - Radio Gaga was something else!

Status Quo at Selhurst Park 1984 was brilliant.

Dragonfly97 · 17/05/2022 20:16

Reading Festival 1992; Nirvana, and Manic Street Preachers ( when Richey was still with them), also on the bill Public Enemy, Suede, Public Image Ltd. It rained!!

You saw Nirvana live 🥲 I love this thread.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 18/05/2022 16:09

Pink Floyd in 1994 at Earls Court. Or possibly Tool at Manchester Area about 2 weeks ago!

Hyvsvaar · 18/05/2022 16:12

Suede -in the 90s and then last year Brett Anderson is an amazing showman and the band are brilliant musicians…also loved Belle and Sebastian

DoubleShotEspresso · 18/05/2022 16:24

James Brown at the Tower of London
Adele last ever show at Wembley

Dundonian · 18/05/2022 16:29

Probably David Bowie on his Sound & Vision tour. Out of this world.

Been to loads that were fantastic. Texas and Deacon Blue were standouts.

Love this thread, OP!

Bluegirl222 · 18/05/2022 17:23

Oasis with Happy Mondays supporting them at Wembley.
Capital FM Party in the park at Clapham Common 1995/96. Robbie Williams, spice girls, Peter Andre. I was 15 and thought it was amazing!!

SommerTen · 18/05/2022 20:26

Basement Jaxx, can't remember the year but they were amazing

ElenaSt · 18/05/2022 20:35

Marc Almond in the early/mid eighties was another fantastic concert as his singing voice was in its prime. He was terrific.

Neverendingdust · 18/05/2022 20:42

I’ve been to so many over the years but…

Tina Turner - I’ve seen too many shows to choose one but she is another level of performance unlike anyone else I’ve ever seen. Front row. There’s a reason Oprah is obsessed with her, she’s that good! The Tina musical is great too

Beyonce - again seen a few shows but the Mrs Carter tour was incredible, so good we paid eye watering resale prices for a few shows to be next to the stage 💸

Cher- age defying excellence, I mean it’s Cher ffs

Bruce Springsteen - amazing played for hours

Taylor Swift- Reputation stadium tour, amazing seats shes one I’ll definitely go and see again, I felt like a teenager despite definitely not being one 😂

Never got to see MJ, Prince or Whitney but I damn wish I had

Enjoyallthewine · 18/05/2022 20:53

Robbie Williams - 2000 in Manchester Arena. Been to many concerts and none has ever matched that in atmosphere, unbelievable

Nissalabella · 18/05/2022 21:41

Basement Jaxx played a wedding I was invited to a few years ago! They were amazing ! The groom’s family were crazy wealthy and the whole thing was insane but still can’t even imagine how much it must have cost to have them there!

actiongirl1978 · 17/05/2022 07:11

Oasis at Maine Rd in 1996. It was a time and a place thing.

Oasis at Knebworth in 1996. Epic. It was a time and a place ... I wish I could get back to.

So many other contenders, Offspring 1996, Kate Bush 2014, Siouxsie &the Banshees 1985, The Damned 1987, Bowie... Hopefully Roxy Music 2022.

Annabelle69 · 18/05/2022 21:46

Soundgarden 1993... how could I forget. I'll shut up now.

cakewitch · 18/05/2022 21:48

Prince.. on numerous occasions including his infamous aftershow parties..
Nobody will ever top him.

Foo fighters
Rolling stones

Lenny Kravitz

Loads more...

Trixiefirecracker · 18/05/2022 21:53

The Pixies, Prince, the Violent Femmes, the Wedding Present.

Downtherefordancing · 19/05/2022 00:03

Just so many amazing memories here. I’ve always loved live music. Some of my faves are:
Michael Jackson - Bad Tour, Aintree. I only went because my little sisters wanted to go but still one of the best gigs ever.
Prince - Wembley in the 90’s
Oasis - saw them a few time but on their final tour, which famously ended badly, I saw them at Murrayfield. Fucking brilliant!
Madstock in 90’s - Madness supported by Ian Dury and the Blockheads, The Buzzcocks etc
Kula Shaker - just brilliant
New Order - and they always do a bit of Joy Division stuff
Radiohead - twice - love them

Recently been trying to get tickets for The Cure as I never saw them in the day

You saw Evanescence in concert? I’m so jealous! Amazing :)

Evernescence were mediocre at best. Lots of band fall outs I think. Their support act was dire!

Best concert by far was Queen with Adam Lambert. Obvs not as good as with Freddie. But not far off.

Worst by far was Michael Buble! Such a disappointment.
