Best concert you’ve been to

Feeling nostalgic and thinking back to my favourite concerts I’ve been to in my time.

Mine would be Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, P!nk, Rihanna, Evanescence, Eminem, Christina Aguilera.

I envy those 10+ years older than me that got to experience some incredible performers such as Michael Jackson, live in concert.

Marilyn Manson in 97, my first gig so a bit special.
Pantera in 2000
Pulp in 2001/2
The Damned (I've seen them a few times now)
Devin Townsend/Strapping Young Lad (also seen a few times)
Mortiis in 2004/5
The Cure in 2016
Jarv Is in 2018 I think it was (Jarvis Cockers solo stuff).

I would have loved to have seen David Bowie and Type O Negative back in the day.

Great list! I saw MM around the same time. I think it was the same week that I saw Korn too, what a week for gigs that was!
Seen the Damned several times too.
Devon Townsend is one of my fav singers. His voice is immense. I saw him with SYL, but initially with Steve Vai when they toured passion and warfare album. Still one of my all time top albums.
I saw Type O in Glasgow. My myself as a 20 odd year old woman as none of my friends liked them. It blew my mind and I'm so grateful I got to see Pete in the flesh singing live.
Loving this thread!

You know he's reading the CBeebies bedtime story on Monday night right?

Oh my goodness. I will be tuning in for that 😀

Also jealous of the gigs you’re going to see this summer. Crowded House especially- that will be absolutely brilliant, I bet. I’ve never seen them live but can imagine they’re the sort of band that will sound amazing live. Not all bands are good live. Stone Roses I’m looking at you. Specifically Ian.

We’re going to see the Chili Peppers in Glasgow this summer which I’m very excited about!

Oooooh, I’d love to see the chilli peppers again.
I saw them in Hyde park in 2004 and they were amazing.
James Brown supported them.

msssm · 17/05/2022 16:34

Oh also @DeadButDelicious jealous you got to see The Cure! I bet that was brilliant.

Debbie Harry and Chrissy Hyndes at a winery in New Zealand is probably my favourite, purely for the atmosphere, it was like having a giant back garden party with lots of wine and 2 legends entertaining us.

after that U2 360 and vertigo tours.
then Kylie, she was just pure entertainment.

seen a few others but these are my definite standouts.

jenny91x · 17/05/2022 16:42

Two Door Cinema Club - very good!

Bon Jovi at Wembley in the 90s. It was amazing van Halen were supporting so it was brilliant. Then black label society about 17 years ago then black stone cherry not too long ago. I need to go to another concert soon

I rather think we were at the same gig.

yumscrumfatbum · 17/05/2022 16:51

Madonna at Wembley with my Dad as a young teenager
Tears for Fears in the 90's with Oleta Adams, Woman in chains still gives me chills
INXS in my 20's was a huge fan as a teen
Saw George Micheal on the 25 years tour and the orchestral one a couple of years later. His death saddened me hugely.
Saw Tom Odell a few weeks ago with my DD who is a fan. Was the first concert post Covid. He was outstanding.

Nitgel · 17/05/2022 16:56

In the early 90s I loved pixies and pop will eat itself, brilliant concerts smaller venues than awful stadiums

TheOnlyMrsW · 17/05/2022 17:01

@ETgo also gutted about Aerosmith this year, I've never seen them and think might have been my last chance 😭.

@runnerblade95 saw Korn supporting Slipknot at the MEN about 8 years ago and the energy was amazing, was really looking forward to them at Download this year but we're having to leave early as DD has an exam on the Monday morning!!!

Have never seen Springsteen and not sure if I will now.............but that's not the point of the thread 😂. Agree the Levellers are brilliant every time, as are Muse. Really loved Tom Petty at BST Hyde Park, especially supported by Stevie Nicks and hands down the best recently was Those Damn Crows at Cardiff Castle in August last year. But I think the one that will always stand out for me is Linkin Park in Birmingham in July 2017, we nearly didn't go as originally had tickets for the MEN but cancelled because of the bombing. Made a last-minute decision to go to Brum instead and it turned out to be the last time Chester performed 😢, they were bloody good as well

TheOnlyMrsW · 17/05/2022 17:06

Should have read to the end, loads that I'm reading and nodding my head to!!! @msssm Ricky Warwick doing his solo stuff is pretty immense to, he does a couple of Almighty tracks and always meets fans to chat at the end, such a lovely guy.
Also yy to Halestorm, the recent tour where they did the stripped back set first instead of a support was outstanding, can you tell we missed gigs over lockdown and are making up for lost time now!!!!

NC1010 · 17/05/2022 17:11

Pink, seen her 6 times. She is absolutely effing incredible!

msssm · 17/05/2022 16:13

Me @runnerblade95

Glasgow Barrowlands. Maybe 95/97 or thereabouts. They came to the Cathouse nightclub after and mingled chatting to all the fans.
I was listening to them yesterday on a long road trip. Amazing band.

Omg I think I have just fallen in love with you simply because you like KoRn and to add insult to injury, have seen them live! Bloody amazing, I bet they were off the chain, right? ‘97? They were in their prime then! So jealous!

Did they perform the famous track Daddy by any chance? If so, I am officially your biggest fan and worst enemy wrapped into one 😏😄

Yes I heard about this, I would have loved to be there as also a huge Slipknot fan too! Ah the wonders of reliving our childhood through this thread, eh? Loving it!

Lonelycrab · 17/05/2022 17:37

While we’re on Slipknot, I saw them at London arena 2002. That was rocking, Corey got the whole crowd to crouch down for about 5 minutes (during spit it out I think) before commanding everyone to jump up at once and go mental! Happy days 🤘

shivermetimbers77 · 17/05/2022 17:39

Michael Jackson Dangerous Tour at Wembley- was a teen and my friend and I somehow managed to edge our way to the front. He was brilliant.

Prince- his concerts at the O2. Managed to get ‘gold circle’ tickets which were released once a day at budget price.lucky as I could never have afforded those seats normally! Was amazing.

runnerblade95 · 17/05/2022 17:39

@jj98x sorry OP this is the only version I can find! I’m fairly certain there was a version on YouTube some years ago but I’m guessing it’s been pulled now.

Here it is:

You can’t really hear the lyrics or her voice as it seems more like a jam session than an actual performance but that’s the closest we’re gonna get I’m afraid! Enjoy ☺️

HollyBollyBooBoo · 17/05/2022 14:56

Reef & Feeder in 1996, amazing, I was high as a kite for a week (all naturally).

Reef are my favourite band. I’ve seen them 5 times. Twice in the last 12 months.
I much prefer smaller gigs.
other favourites have been
Manic street preachers at Cardiff castle and Newport Leisure centre.
Foo Fighters at the Olympic Stadium 2019
Bon Jovi at the old Cardiff Arms Park in 1995

Would so have loved to have seen Prince and to see George Michael

moomintrolls · 17/05/2022 17:42

Saw Mariah Carey live and although we were way at the back, her voice in real life was stunning. Just like on the records, so clear. In my opinion she is technically unmatched and is one of the world's best songwriters.

Sean Paul was absolutely blazing.

Pulp were... Pulp, need I say more?

Those were my three favourites I have ever been to and they beat some real talent too.

Yes! She’s awesome! A friend of a friend’s sang to her on stage in London years ago! It’s on youtube I think. P!nk is so humble yet so talented, that’s why I love her so much.

The police before they were famous. Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, U2

buckeejit · 17/05/2022 17:55

Off the top of my head : Jonny Cash at my first Glastonbury when I was 16 & not a massive fan like I am now

Sheep on drugs, (I was also on drugs which may have influenced this vote)

The killers, also Glasto

Oasis at a tiny club when cigarettes & alcohol came out - had stayed up the night before after another gig & bought a ticket for £2 outside, then smoked their drugs & they bought me a pint beforehand so they kinda paid me!

Gogol Bordello were fab live

Regina Spektor at another wee festival

Am sure I'll think of others, I've missed a lot of big bands that I've seen but not always the best gigs.

AdoraBell · 17/05/2022 17:56

The Freddy Mercury tribute concert.
