Nicest celebrity you’ve ever met?

A positive and uplifting thread, hopefully people will give proper names as it’s a compliment to the celebs!

I haven’t met any so can’t say but would love to know who’s lovely.

OP posts:
LadyHelenaJustina · 10/05/2022 19:24

Robin Ince is really lovely, and fascinating to talk to.

Sadik · 10/05/2022 19:44

Jerome Flynn props up an awful lot of good causes in my neck of the woods, plus seems like a nice chap more generally. I think he counts as a celebrity these days post GoT? (at least DP's daughter was excited to know he's always around & about here, so I reckon he must be!)

Lorrymum · 10/05/2022 19:47

Martin Clunes, lovely bloke who wound down his car window after my DH recognised him at petrol station. He chatted for a few minutes and his dog was lovely too.

I met Daniel Ricardo recently and thought he was a really likeable bloke. Easy to talk to.

I’m so pleased to read this (and only just a little bit jealous 😉) I always imagined that he would be really likeable.
I’ve met a few celebrities over the years and think I’ve been very lucky. Not yet met a nasty. I met Mr Pastry (Richard Hearne) as a child and he spent ages with us and was a lot of fun. Alice Cooper was polite and extremely nice, Met Maddy Prior, lead singer of Steeleye Spain after a concert and she was absolutely adorable and so polite after my (off his face) friend draped his dirty scarf around her neck.
My daughter and I met the three marvellous ladies from Fascinating Aida very briefly after a show. What can I say? They were just wonderful!
I often see John Cooper Clarke and Martin Newell around the area we live. No show, no pretence, just genuinely nice people.

I guess the closest I’ve come to witnessing oddity with celebs was at a small house party when Eve Graham from the New Seekers turned up with an entourage of bodyguards. Honestly, there couldn’t have been more than 20 people at the party so I’m not sure what she thought would happen. She stood in a corner like a frightened rabbit with her minions guarding her, no-one approached her, and after about an hour she left. The only other time was with a guy who was clearly trying to be noticed. When he caught my attention and I looked he gave an exasperated sigh and said ‘ yes, it’s me.’ To this day I have no idea who he was.
Oh, and I met Curley Neal of the Haarlem Globetrotters. Does that count as celebrity? We were at Detroit airport changing planes and he came and chatted for a while. I had no idea who he was, which surprised him, but he stayed and chatted and was really nice.
There’s another thread running about celebs who aren’t so nice. Some real horror stories so it’s good to read some positives.

Sandie Shaw - statuesque, beautiful and charming
Claude Littner - a sweetheart
Tony Slattery - humble and unpretentious

I saw him at a climate march a few years ago. I was saying to the people I was with that it was him off GoT. None of them watched it!

I was on a train with Eric Cantona once, he was a complete gent. The train was packed as several had been cancelled that day so he stood up outside the toilets all the way (couple of hours journey) he was inundated with autographs requests the whole way and was friendly and pleasant the whole time.

Ed Sheeran lives in the next village to me... He's lovely... He's allowed to just get on with his life... When he was learning to drive, my friends daughter was sitting at the bottom of the drive looking out for a local tractor driver that she fancied. Ed drove past in his instructors car and waved at her and her friend. Cue them rushing screaming into the house. Also another friend was being driven through the country lanes by her husband when a driving school car went past.... "Blimey dear that driver looks like Ed Sheeran!" Her DH replied " Thats because it was Ed!!" 🤣 🤣 🤣
Hes donated Lego to our local schools Lego club too and donates his clothes to the charity shops in Fram. ♥ ♥

DP did some work for a client and dragged me along to help one day without telling me who he was working for. I spent the whole day being blissfully unaware, but kind of knew I recognised this Mark chap from somewhere. He was unutterably lovely, polite, chatty, brought us drinks & ice creams, took a real interest in what we were doing, and it turned out he knew the area I grew up in really well, so he & I had a 'oh, yes, just by the little chef?' type conversation, so I assumed we must have bumped into each other at some point in the past.

It was only after we left that DP said 'Amazed you didn't get starstruck.'

It was Mark Strong. Can confirm he smelt lovely.

Sadly I didn't meet him but I wrote to Tom Conti after my mother, two of her friends and I had travelled to London by coach to see "Their Playing Our Song", starring TC and Gemma Craven when I was in my early teens.
About twenty minutes before the end, one of the friends started fretting about missing the coach home and made the four of us, sitting right in the middle of the row, squeeze past loads of disgruntled people to leave well before the end.

I was mortified. I wrote to TC and GC to apologise as I was worried they'd noticed us leaving and thought we weren't enjoying the play.
GC sent back a standard photocopied acknowledgement with her autograph, which was lovely as I hadn't expected a reply.
But Tom Conti took the trouble to write a note saying he felt that transport and restaurant times were two of the biggest problems faced by the London theatre, then went on to explain how the play ended as I'd missed it.
I was utterly smitten... <dreamy smile, misty eyes>

Katie Hopkins was lovely, this was years ago....not sure why she has to put on this fake horrible persona.....

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 10/05/2022 21:42

I used to work in a shop and I served Jennifer Saunders and she was an absolute joy so nice and I told her I loved her in Ab Fab and we had a good chat about it all

mindutopia · 10/05/2022 21:44

Alan Cumming. He is so incredibly lovely and normal. We did a charity trip together for 2 weeks with a charity I worked with who he was an ambassador for. It was very basic conditions in mostly rural areas (squat toilets, very cold, no heat, sleeping on mats on the floor). But he was so good natured about it and just got stuck in with everything.

At the end, he took us all out for a very nice dinner at a very exclusive restaurant in the city that was sort of ‘secret’ (you couldn’t just get a table there). We got tipsy on martinis and ran into another celebrity (who was at the time not out about being gay), but approached us when his minders were busy sorting the bill to ask if we could recommend any gay friendly bars or clubs (homosexuality is illegal in this country). Alan was so kind about discreetly letting him know places to go and offered for him to meet us out later. Really just so thoughtful and lovely and kind.

mindutopia · 10/05/2022 21:48

Dh also does a lot of work for David and Victoria Beckham. Apparently, Vic is super fussy and doesn’t like to eat much, but David is lovely and always around to help set up and carry things around and is really nice. Dh’s business partner gets random WhatsApps from him about foodie stuff (he’s a private chef and Dh designs kitchens for him).

I love this thread, it's making me smile hearing about all the good ones!

A relative of mine was in the same regiment as Harry. His teenage daughter had a bit of a thing for Harry so he face timed her on her birthday and sent her a piece of cake through the post.
He said that Harry was very nice and down to earth.

LisaSimpson77 · 10/05/2022 22:36

Just thought of another.
Cherie Blair visited the school I worked in, I taught a class of children with profound learning difficulties.
Most visitors tend to just smile and make small talk from the doorway but Cherie got down on the floor and spoke to each child individually. She was wearing beautiful clothes which were slightly damp and chocolate smeared by the time she'd finished but it didn't seem to bother her at all.

I wonder if any celebrities read these threads to see if they get a mention.

Also, has anybody ever met Rosie Marcel (Jac Naylor from Holby) I'd love to know if she's as nice as she appears on her Instagram.

RewildingAmbridge · 10/05/2022 22:48

Princess Anne, warm, quick witted and had really studied up around our area of work.
DH worked with Tom Jones and said he was truly lovely.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/05/2022 22:53

Martin Clunes, lovely bloke who wound down his car window after my DH recognised him at petrol station. He chatted for a few minutes and his dog was lovely too.

So glad about the latter - I feared you were going to say she was a complete bitch who just stuck her tongue out and never said a word Grin

Devpatelslaughingeyes · 10/05/2022 23:04

I forgot to say I met David Cameron, before he was PM. Don’t flame me, I had no idea who he was at the time but I will love him forever for what he did. My father was a Far East Prisoner of War and we were marching at the Cenotaph one year when DC asked who we were. Right at the end of the parade when most people had lost interest. A FEPOW with us stiffened up and said ‘Far East Prisoners of War, Mr Cameron’ and with that he stepped in and walked with us for a while. I can’t begin to tell you what that meant to that man, or us as a group, but I will love him for all time for that small act of homage. He wasn’t canvassing for votes. It was a small act of humanity that meant an enormous amount.

Bouledeneige · 10/05/2022 23:04

Not a movie or TV star but Terence Conran was a real gentleman to me. I was at a formal dinner for designers and both of the men on either side of me turned to talk to the guests on their other sides leaving me studiously buttering my bread roll. Conran was opposite me and engaged me in conversation for ages. Telling me funny stories about his sons. And, as he was the most important guest at the table, I suddenly existed for everyone else at the table too. A real gent.

BonjourCrisette · 10/05/2022 23:52

Simon Callow is an absolute gent. A really kind and genuine man.
Victoria Hamilton
Robin Weaver
Sonia Swaby (mate, if you are reading this, I am sorry we lost touch, there was a lot of weirdness but I always loved you and I don't think it was your fault)
Madhur Jaffrey
Nat Parker
Kimberly Williams
Carmel McSharry - LEGEND
Jane Horrocks

(some of these not strictly speaking celebs but just genuinely nice people on the shows I worked on, all well known in their worlds)

BonjourCrisette · 10/05/2022 23:53

Patsy Rowlands too. A lovely lovely person.
