Re-wear your clothes?

Do you do that? Re-wear them?

What do you do when you wear your clothes again (apart from keep downwind of other people of course!)

OK, is this a MN thing? Wearing clothing just once? (not including undies).

Fizzyfish · 07/05/2022 01:37

What do you mean, 'what do you do' ??

DropYourSword · 07/05/2022 01:38

I rewear jeans / skirts etc as my legs don't and never have smelled!!
I always wash tops after one wear because armpits!

fallfallfall · 07/05/2022 01:38

I don’t wear sweaty or soiled clothing twice, but tops pants socks can usually be worn a second time.

Dahlia444 · 07/05/2022 01:44

Tops tend only to wear once unless staying at home mostly the next day. Underwear obv once. Everything else may get worn multiple times. For work I'll avoid wearing the same trousers/skirt/jumper for consecutive days as I worry people will notice and think my clothes are dirty. But I don't wash them, they just go away.

Its a massive environmental burden to overwash clothes and is unnecessary.

Changingdirections · 07/05/2022 02:16

Are you exceptionally smelly? I rewear jumpers, trousers, skirts. Don't do it with underwear, socks or tops near armpits. It's never smelled🤔

ArcheryAnnie · 07/05/2022 02:28

I have two identical dresses - one my size, one a size bigger. (I actually prefer the bigger one as ir looks good oversized.)

The one my size has to be washed after pne or two wears as the underarms come in reasonably close contact with my armpits. The bigger one I can put on a hangar to air and be worn many times more as its so loose, it doesn't get smelly.

brokengoalposts · 07/05/2022 04:20

What on earth do you mean? I pick them up and put them on, I certainly don't smell. I never wear knickers or socks twice and I never rewear soiled or clothes I have sweated in.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 07/05/2022 04:26

I'm going to assume this means between washes as opposed to the way publications report on "recycling" clothes i.e wearing a dress more than once 🙄
I don't rewear underwear or t shirts, I do with jeans, trousers or jumpers. I don't 'do' anything in particular other than fold them up and put them on the floor near the bed (we don't have room for a chair etc).

Cheesechips · 07/05/2022 04:28

I would rewear jeans but that's it. I'm quite a sweaty person though and also super paranoid about smelling.

Joystir59 · 07/05/2022 04:35

I change underwear every day, everything else gets worn until it's dirty.

silentpool · 07/05/2022 04:54

I am careful with this as you can definitely smell an unwashed smell off certain people, particularly men, I find.

I will wear trousers/jeans multiple times but tops, maybe twice. I do put a camisole underneath just in case. Underwear obviously gets changed daily.

Basically this.

Goes without saying that knickers and socks are one wear only.

I already feel like I spend too much time on laundry, can't imagine what it's like for folk who can't bear to wear jeans more than once.

DancingintheDark17 · 07/05/2022 05:09

Totally depends how long I've worn them, where I was, and how dirty/fresh they look. Learned the hard way from always washing after 1 wear, as clothes started to discolour or mishape, so I decided to reduce washes to if/when required.
I often wear work dresses/trousers more than once. Only on for a few hours and aslong as I wasn't doing anything energetic or messy, I will wear again. Same with casual outfits at home, usually pull on leggings/jumper for quick outing to shop/friends then back home into pjs.
Even though the clothes I rewear aren't dirty I didn't want to hang back up with fresh stuff, so I now have two clothes basket to seperate the things I've worn/dirty/ need washed and the things I've worn/clean/will wear again. I usually wear in the coming days as I use the clothes from the basket before taking new ones out wardrobe.

TravelDreamLife · 07/05/2022 05:46

I rewear clothes, sometimes several times. I do the school run & errands then home & into my old around home clothes. Back into nice clothes for pickup & kids' activities etc. Often only worn for 2-4 hours. I usually rotate two outfits & have a separate area in my closet to hang them. Of course, as soon as anything gets remotely dirty or smelly it goes in the wash. DH does the same. Kids' stuff only worn once, though.

I have less washing & clothes look nicer for a lot longer.

Blimeyherewegoagain · 07/05/2022 05:53

It depends on what they are made of. Synthetic fibres like acrylic only do one wear, but cotton or wool is good for much more. It’s another good reason why we should be moving away from material derived from the oil industry.
I get changed into loungewear type stuff when I come in so the clothes I’ve been out in are only worn for a few hours and are good for several wears.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 07/05/2022 06:00

I re-wear everything apart from underwear, and tshirts on a hot day.
Jeans and thick jumpers (all pure wool or cashmere) might get a wash 4 times a year. I have one particular cashmere jumper that I've owned for 3 years and never washed. I get 2 or 3 wears out of a top if I've not spilled anything down myself! My work dresses all come from Hobbs and are expensive, so no way am I washing them each time I wear them - I get a good 4-6 wears out of these.
I have 'going out' clothes that I only ever wear for 3-4 hours at a time, and have never been washed.

StopStartStop · 07/05/2022 06:03

A lot of mingers on this thread. I can't advise you on 're-wearing' because I don't do it.

Ticksallboxes · 07/05/2022 06:10

Wow...some eye-opening posts on here!!

In the last two years I've started wearing the same outfit two days in a row (obviously changing underwear).

I work part-time at home so it's a rotation of M&S jeans and more expensive tops. The only thing I wear regularly but wash infrequently is a cashmere cardigan that I wear all the time at home in the winter, as it's very much an outer garment.

User7493268965 · 07/05/2022 06:10

Does OP maybe mean, where do you store your clothes you have worn, I don't put mine back in the wardrobe because I have read, though I don't know how true it is that moths tend to go for clothes that have been worn, especially by women so to keep them out in the open. I hang my worn clothes on a hanger on the spare room over door hanger or put them on a chair in the bedroom.

I haven't RTFT but this really surprised me - do many people do this? The constant changing sounds like hard work although is it worth it because it saves loads on washing and energy bills?

Svara · 07/05/2022 06:18

Why wouldn't I? Underwear and socks I change daily, but tops are one to three days as needed, and jumpers and trousers less often. Haven't washed my good weekend jeans yet this year, holding out for six months for the fade lines. Work jeans are washed every two or three weeks as they have 1% stretch so go baggy.

Penguinevere · 07/05/2022 06:29

I re wear tops for a couple of days but I’m active and they do smell by then. Trousers get washed once a week or just under.

i don’t put worn clothes away with clean ones because of moths. I leave them on a hanger. Clothes I don’t want to wash before storing like wool jumpers get folded and put in a plastic clothes bag.

the trick is not to have too many clothes.

Celticdawn5 · 07/05/2022 06:32

I will happily wear clothes more than once before washing. There really is no need to wash clothes after one wear unless you are a messy eater/sweat profusely.

Mirrorball2022 · 07/05/2022 06:33

I’ve always reworn clothes. I shower daily, wear deodorant/clean underwear so I’m not dirty. Unless I’ve done anything sweaty/active of course. They don’t go back in the wardrobe though just in a chair in the room.
