Do you do that? Re-wear them?

What do you do when you wear your clothes again (apart from keep downwind of other people of course!)

Yes I re wear clothes (not underwear) I store them on the chairdrobe or floordrobe between wears. If I’m just doing the garden, staying around the house at the weekend I will even re wear if they smell a bit overdue a wash and smell of cooking.
I wouldn’t go out smelling of cooking though so the cooking /gardening clothes are stored on the floor at the side of the chair and the decent re wear clothes are on the chair. I’m aware I must look like a bag lady some days but if I’m not planning on going anywhere then it’s only the postie that’s likely to see me and he’s seen far more than he should, when I jumped out of bed to answer his knock one day in a loose long T-shirt, and the door I was trying to half hide behind blew open a bit too much.

This post an dithers mentioning chairs has reminded me of an ex who had a chair in the bedroom... A chair i wasn't allowed to actually sit in.. I called it the forbidden seat.

"That's where my almost dirty clothes go."
"Wtf are almost dirty clothes?"
"Ones I've worn, they're not clean, but they're not dirty, they're almost dirty"

Trousers and jeans over the arms, tops and thirty folded on the seat, shirts and such hung on the back. A whole set in stone system..

AlwaysLatte · 07/05/2022 08:50

I'll wear jeans twice or possibly 3 times if they don't get muddy great paw prints on and jumpers a few times, but everything else gets worn once.

Well, I have my morning outfit, afternoon outfit, evening outfit & night-time outfit. Each one goes in the tip after one use. Of course, I need an extra outfit for tip days shudder

👏👏👏

I’m disappointed that no one has turned up yet to tell us all with complete confidence that they know every detail of the personal hygiene habits of complete strangers they pass in the street (obviously when said strangers are not meeting the poster’s standards in some way). They never speak to these people as far as I can tell, or bother to explain how they know the intimate details of their lives. But they Just Know.

Also, I confidently expect someone to turn up and tell us that it is because All Brits Are Dirty Mingers. Because that’s a thing too.

Still, the day is young!

pictish · 07/05/2022 08:55

Yes I will deek in with my tick list of how disgusting we all are and how other people can definitely smell us. Yay!

georgarina · 07/05/2022 08:57

I re-wear jeans, trousers, jumpers and jackets. Wash everything else after one use.

Scoobyblue · 07/05/2022 08:58

I wash bra, pants and socks every day. T-shirts and tops every day in the Summer when it's hot, after two days wear in the winter as I don't sweat much and they don't smell. Jeans, jumpers etc far less regularly.

Echobelly · 07/05/2022 08:59

Yeah, jeans, skirts and trousers I rewear on the rare occasion I haven't spilled anything on them. Starting to do it more in terms of environment-friendliness by avoiding excess washes.

Onlyforcake · 07/05/2022 09:03

Some people must love the absolutely vile smell of fabric detergent, or be completely desensitised to overpowering scents. Advertising people's wet dream the stupidity of some 🙂

StopStartStop · 07/05/2022 06:03

A lot of mingers on this thread. I can't advise you on 're-wearing' because I don't do it.

Oh do fuck off, like wearing jeans or a jumper twice makes someone a minger. Unless you stink to high heaven it's perfectly fine. Idiot.

pointythings · 07/05/2022 09:10

I shower every morning and am not generally a sweaty person, so aside from underwear and socks I wear more than once. Wearing once is not good for your clothes or for the planet (or for your bank account with the cost of energy).

If it's been very hot or I've been very active, the clothes go in the wash.

DogWithMyOwnRoom · 07/05/2022 09:11

Yes @Asimhereanyway same here, I also use my Chairdrobe and Floordrobe for clothes awaiting their next wear too
Floor is for housework/gardening/slobby-comfy stuff and chairdrobe is for ‘out of the house’ jeans and t-shirts, trousers etc.
Posher items (eg/smart top, or rarely a dress) will go on a coat hanger on the back of the bedroom door. Only freshly laundered items go back in the wardrobe.

I change underwear, socks and tops daily (sweaty armpits/hot flushes) but jeans, skirts, trackie bottoms, sweatshirts and jumpers/cardigans all go several days unless marked or fail the sniff test.

Jeans get worn loads… don’t count days, throw in with next convenient wash.

I try and wear bras 2 or possibly 3 days - but it depends on the style (eg/ how close to the armpit) and weather, and how ‘menopausal’ I’ve been. Sometimes a bra might be just once - but then it messes up my system because I always buy matching sets, with one bra and either 2 or 3 knickers (2x thongs/briefs and 1 x Big girl Bridget pants).

Sports wear is same. Leggings worn few times but tops and socks just once - even though it will only be for about 2 hours max.

oh - exception is if anyone important is coming round or to stay and likely to see bedroom - then Chairdrobe things go on hangers at one end of wardrobe, and Floor things (which are already folded) get moved to the floor of the wardrobe. Family & good friends can see it in the wild - not ashamed of the system 😄

MrsPopplecat · 07/05/2022 09:17

Like most here, I change knickers and socks daily but try to get longer out of other clothes.
Bras are the anomaly; I don't change them daily, perhaps after 3 days, unless it's very hot or I've been doing something very sweaty.
Might get a second day out of T-shirts (sniff test on the armpits ) but would definitely try and get 3-5 wears out of jumpers and jeans. It doesn't do them any favours to wash so frequently.

womanchild · 07/05/2022 09:19

Is 'minger' back? Haven't heard it since the 90s!

Themilkyway97 · 07/05/2022 09:22

@StopStartStop same here, fresh on everyday. Always been the way with me and for my DC. Personally I couldn't imagine putting clothes back on that I'd been wearing all day but each to their own.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/05/2022 09:23

I only wash clothes that are dirty. This means only knickers, socks and tights get washed after one wear.
I don't smell because I wash and wear anti-perspirant deodorant.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/05/2022 09:25

You are wasting energy, both your own (and your time!) and the planet's. Irresponsible.

Onwards22 · 07/05/2022 09:25

I have a bad skin condition and cannot rewear clothes, I understand the environmental aspect but tbh I probably have less of an environmental impact generally than those who are on their high horses over someone washing their clothes after one wear, I have to do what is right for me medically.

Thats fair enough.

I have friends who have medical conditions where they sweat excessively or their genitals smell so they have to change every day, if not multiple times a day.

But most of us don’t have a medical condition that makes us smell - that doesn’t mean where ‘mingers’ as PPs have suggested.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/05/2022 09:28

"I have a bad skin condition and cannot rewear clothes,"

Well, that's totally different.

"tbh I probably have less of an environmental impact generally than those who are on their high horses over someone washing their clothes after one wear"

How could you possible know other people's environmental impact?

Lalliella · 07/05/2022 09:29

I rewear everything except underwear and socks until they’re dirty or smell. I have a very strong sense of smell though so I would know before others noticed.

Themilkyway97 · 07/05/2022 09:29

@Gwenhwyfar it's personal choice, I wouldn't feel clean re wearing clothes (live on a farm and am active all day getting grubby with horses and dogs etc). I don't criticise others for their choices and frankly couldn't care a toss how often they re wear clothes. I like fresh clothes on everyday and that's that. We are all entitled to do as we want.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/05/2022 09:29

It's threads like these that remind me not to listen to many mothers who complain they have too much housework - so many women are obviously just doing unnecessary work. This and the other thread where people said they washed clothes after a holiday even if they hadn't been worn AT ALL because they didn't separate clean and dirty or because they needed to be ironed.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/05/2022 09:31

I'm not sure we're morally entitled to do anything we want. Obviously, legally you can.

However, I also said I wash my clothes if they are actually dirty, which you say is the case with your farm clothes. Personally, I think I might wear overalls like farmers wear though and wash those rather than ruin my nice clothes with constant washing.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/05/2022 09:31

I only wear tops once because I sweat a lot and do a lot of walking because I don't own a car. I rewear jeans and trousers multiple times before I wash them though!

Themilkyway97 · 07/05/2022 09:33

@Gwenhwyfar then don't listen to others with differing opinions from your own. You'll always find those who don't agree with you and that's fine😁as long as they are not asking you to do their laundry it's nothing to do with you.
