Re-wear your clothes?

Do you do that? Re-wear them?

What do you do when you wear your clothes again (apart from keep downwind of other people of course!)

Always! Wearing something doesn't automatically make it dirty. If I'm not going to wear it the next day, I'll hang it back up in the wardrobe until I want it. I don't smell, I keep clean - why would I need to wash something just because I've worn it once? Granted, I will often end up with grubby hands all over my top and this will then be washed, obviously. I do sometimes spot clean clothes if it's generally clean otherwise. A damp cloth usually gets the mark off.

MadameFantabulosa · 07/05/2022 07:42

If they’re not stained or smelly they can be worn again. Pants and socks clean every day though.

ImFree2doasiwant · 07/05/2022 07:42

I would be constantly washing if we only wore things once. The young DC wear whatever they can twice, their uniformscare often not fit for rewear but I they are they go on the next day. I tend to change, so if doing housework will put on leggings and t shirt. Then change to jeans and top to leave the house. Tops I will wear 2 or 3 times unless actually grubby.ihave horses, and have jeans/jodhpurs and tops. I will rewrar those but obviously only for doing horsey stuff in.

I have specific dog walking jeans which can get muddy so they stay in a box in the utility room and will be worn a few times or I'd have to have loads of dog walking clothes Yes same, I don't have a dog but have what I call 'outdoor trousers' for walking/cycling/gardening and they get reused because we do a lot of stuff where you would get a bit of mud on you but actually the scruffy clothes worn don't need washing regularly. They are basically workwear.

And thinking about it I have comfy clothes too which I put on after work (soft joggers) and they definitely get worn more than once as they aren't on for long really before pj time (which I do sometimes go straight for and avoid comfies altogether 🤣)

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 07/05/2022 07:44

Really?

artisanbread · 07/05/2022 07:47

Yes, unless it's dirty or smells. Underwear and socks are only worn once. Tops usually two or three times. Jeans I wear loads before I wash them. Washing every use is bad for the environment and shortens the lifespan of the clothes.

I usually hang them overnight to air them after wearing then just put them back in the drawer/cupboard. I have a friend who insists she can't put anything away after she's worn it so she has a huge pile of stuff on a chair.

Ducksinthebath · 07/05/2022 07:47

If clothes are properly aired and allowed to rest between wears then very few things need to be washed frequently. Obviously skin tight things like leggings or under layer tops won’t stay as fresh but they can definitely accommodate two full days of home working and tv watching in the evening.

I also use underarm shields that stick on to clothes with snug underarms. At the end of the day, pull them off, air the item and it’s good to go again.

Why waste time and money washing perfectly fine clothes that don’t need it?

MaryAndHerNet · 07/05/2022 07:48

You're not meant to wash jeans unless they're absolutely filthy.
Tops and such are worn for a day and hung on right of wardrobe to wear again another day.
Underwear changed daily, everything else washed when it's dirty or smells bad. If I've been exercising though and got sweaty, I'll bung sweaty gear in the washer as soon as I get home.

I didn't know underarm guards were a thing! Will definitely look them up.

Scooby5kids · 07/05/2022 07:52

I wear new underwear and socks/tights everyday. Everything else like jeans, jumpers, tops etc I wear it 2-3 days but I always check to see if it's clean and make sure it doesn't smell obviously. I'd never wear something if it was smelly or had food stains on. I don't usually wear the exact same thing twice in row. I usually mix it up with something else. I've got a chair in my room with a selection of already worn clothes that are not dirty but not clean enough to put away 🙈🤣

I have to wash my jeans that have 1% elastine every two or three weeks as they go too baggy. My 100% cotton ones it's been four months so far though.

Tulipomania · 07/05/2022 07:55

I rewear everything except knickers & socks. T-shirts usually wear for 2 days. Because:

  1. Clothes last longer if you wash them less often

  2. Reducing the amount of laundry is better for the environment and, you know, CLIMATE CHANGE,

I’m disappointed in this thread. I was hoping for a lot more batshit “I only wear an item of clothes for a few hours and if you don’t you’re a dirty old minger posts”

I suspect the OP was hoping for more graphic descriptions Grin

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 07/05/2022 07:59

New pants and socks every day - sometimes more than one set if we've been exercising - but everything else gets washed when dirty or smelly. DH doesn't smell and I think he'd tell me if I did!

This is mostly about the environment/fuel bills and partly about laziness and ironing-aversion.

I am actually wearing yesterday's socks now as I'm still schlepping about in my PJs.

FrecklesMalone · 07/05/2022 08:03

I don't drop food on myself or really sweat (apart from exercise) or smell. I shower daily so can wear everything bar knickers and socks a few times.

Pinklimey · 07/05/2022 08:08

I'm always amazed when Kate wears something she has worn before. Naturally, everything that ai wear goes in the bin after one use.

Biscuit, anyone?

onlywork55 · 07/05/2022 08:09

I change underwear and socks every day and wash sportswear after one use.

Tops I will rewear if I can but I have a two year old so it’s rare that I make it to the end of the day without my top getting dirty.

Jeans, jumpers and skirts I will rewear until they look dirty. Dresses maybe 2-3 times.

I just put them back in the wardrobe again, I haven’t ever had any problems with moths (hope I haven’t jinxed myself now).

PeterpiperpickedapeckofpickledPEPPAS · 07/05/2022 08:10

I don’t understand how you can wear a top next to the skin twice. How do you manage not to sweat in your clothes? I wear deodorant and shower daily but they still look and smell gross at the end or the day. Deodorant rubs off on tops. And do you not walk anywhere? Never run for the bus? Never have to carry bags or young children upstairs? I change underwear, socks, tights and shirts next to skin everyday. Tighter trousers might get 2 days but probably not more than that. Looser trousers especially jeans will get 4 or so wears. More than that and they smell! Jumpers made of cotton or fleece can maybe get 5-7 wears. Proper wool jumpers not worn as a first layer ever I probably wash once mid-winter and once towards the the end of spring so I can put them away clean over the summer.
In summer I like thin cotton dresses that I change daily.

womanchild · 07/05/2022 08:10

Well, I have my morning outfit, afternoon outfit, evening outfit & night-time outfit. Each one goes in the tip after one use. Of course, I need an extra outfit for tip days shudder

Ironing aversion is a big part of it to me too.

The people I know who wash clothes after one use also tend to be people who don’t really bother with ironing.

PeterpiperpickedapeckofpickledPEPPAS · 07/05/2022 08:11

Oh and I have ´the chair’ for worn but not yet dirty clothes.

🙄Don't act so "shocked"

You've 100% reworn clothes.

If you've ever removed a jumper or cardigan because it was bit warm.... and then put it back on...you've reworn clothes.

That time you went swimming and got changed into a costume and back into your clothes...reworn.

Pulled your pants down to go to the loo...and then pulled the same pair back up? Eewwwww you wore used underwear 🤢

Presumably you wash your coat every single day,and take multiple coats with you when out and about. Because I am genuinely shocked you rewore that jacket after taking it off at your Mum's....

Prettypussy · 07/05/2022 08:12

Common sense is needed.

I rarely wash skirts unless they have visible stains or grubbiness. Jeans I wear until they start to sag at the knees or have stains. T-shirts and tops I usually wear twice or more if loose fitting, but will wash after one wear if they have any marks- they often have makeup round the neck if they are light coloured. Jumpers I will wear until they look grubby. Knickers and socks only wear once, obviously, but bras I will wear for 3 or 4 days.

JurasicPerks · 07/05/2022 08:13

fallfallfall · 07/05/2022 01:38

I don’t wear sweaty or soiled clothing twice, but tops pants socks can usually be worn a second time.

Pants and socks are the only 2 things I wouid never rewear. Washed every day.

Everything else can usually have a second outing. Trousers and jumpers good for about a week - but generally have a couple on rotation rather than one item worn for 5 consecutive days.

Fizbosshoes · 07/05/2022 08:17

I wash underwear, socks, sports wear after 1 wear. Anything else could potentially be worn again, although probably not tops in hot weather. A hoodie for example I might wear several times.
