Gas & electric has trebled - surely it's time to vote the Tories out now?

cloudcats · 25/04/2022 08:01

I've been waiting to see how much it'd go up by and the bill's arroved - it's now just under £300 a month. That's more than 10% of my monthly income.

I've had very low gas readings recently as our heating isn't working properly. We just had a cold winter as we couldn't afford to get it fixed, I guess next winter is going to be cold too. This is the UK in the 21st Century, FFS!

What is it going to take for people to vote these fuckers out? They're bleeding us dry and destroying our children's future. And, how many dead under Covid, due to their mismanagement of the crisis? More concerned with giving lucrative contracts to their mates than lives or well being of the general population. Their parties are a symptom of this attitude. We are absolutely not "all in it together".

Does anyone really still think this group of entitled, self-serving, priviledged wankers have our best interests at heart?

My local ward is a Lib Dem-Tory marginal. I don't usually vote Lib Dem, but I will this year in the local elections to get these fuckers out.

Who's joining me for some tactical voting?

This isn't anything to do with the Tories though is it?

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/04/2022 08:05

I agree the govt should
Do more regarding fuel prices but this is a world wide issue and they can't control the prices worldwide. I was in Greece last week and fuel was was over what we pay there.

However to your point we could tax the companies and I'd support making fuel and gas nationalised to try and control situations

Other countries governments are protecting the consumer from the price rise.

The crisis may not be of their making, but how they deal with it is.

Voting lub dem in your local Council elections won't have any impact on which party is in government Confused

Heavymetaldetector · 25/04/2022 08:09

I have never, ever voted for them and certainly aren't going to start now. But I look forward to another baffling landslide victory for them BecAuSE LabOUr. They've been in power for 12 years, and I've watched us lurch from.one awful crisis and shitty policy to embarrassing scandal and Brexit which they only did to win over the Ukip vote...on and on and on it goes. Until you think it can't get any worse. Then it does. But they somehow wriggle out of it. I got an email off them the other day which read DONT RISK LABOUR LED COUNCILS because the only tactic they have is to slag off the competition, rather than positively advertise their own merit. I cannot believe they are still here.

You don't have to vote for Labour before anyone assumes I'm a die hard Labour supporter, there lib dems and green party to also consider. Just anyone, anyone but them.

No, but there isn't a handy general election just about to happen is there?

But locals are happening next week, for a lot of us.

Obviously, I mean to do the same in a GE!

What's the lib dem position? This is for local elections so what will they do locally that is better than the alternative?

I'm not voting back in our corrupt labour councillors just so they can give backhanders to their mates and sign off dodgy planning deals.

Local is always different to national elections

Life improved under the last Labour administration. And it would again if they got back in.

The Tories are parasites, feeding off us, our children and our country to make personal wealth for them and their ulta-rich mates.

Labour have been hopeless as an opposition, yes, but they'd be a lot better in poer than this lot.

Of COURSE it's to do with the Tories Hmm

They could impose a windfall tax in one second on the gas/elec providers like other European countries have done !

All them and their rich friends and anyone they care about can afford it

This is just further proof that they don't give a crap about the vast tracts of the normals in this country 🤷‍♀️

SilverCatStripes · 25/04/2022 08:18

As the Conservatives are currently the only party who recognise what a woman is then they will be the ones getting my votes.

Really? so the huge increases in the standing charge, to pay for all the failed energy companies they set up is nowt to do with them?

The failure to insulate both new and older homes, the 12 years the TOries have had to build more nuclear (labour started the only the nuke station being built - Hinkley C) which the Tories still have allowed to drift.

The failure to regulate on enough gas storage.

..and last but not least, no windfall tax to ease the burden on poorer consumers but there is a tax cut if you've enough money to have solar.

Are you suggesting none of them have massive shareholdings in power companies so they don’t have a vested interest in the profits?

timestheyarechanging · 25/04/2022 08:23

Agree with you. Unfortunately where I live is a super safe Tory seat (Going back to before the awful Ted Heath). I've never voted Tory and doubt I ever would. I will be voting Lib-dem in an attempt to oust them but I doubt it will make a difference.

KangarooKenny · 25/04/2022 08:25

I can’t see the other parties coming up with the answer to the problem.

Lol! yes Bojo can't stop staring at Raynors legs, so clearly recognises what he wants from a woman.

bur seriously, if you vote Tory, then clearly your wealthy enough so things like womens refuges, cost of living and the nhs are of no concern to you.

MayorDusty · 25/04/2022 08:34

A GE could happen sooner than we think. Boris is threatening to call one should his leadership be challenged.
don't expect any miracles though as too many people vote on a single issue and especially with the latest immigration solution they could get back in just with a smaller majority.
Sadly the poorest are never a vote winner.

Barkingmadhouse · 25/04/2022 09:04

I don't think your vote for lib dem will make any difference - they are not a realistic party and on the whole are forgotten about. Your one vote wont make any difference when no one else votes for them.
Until there is a credible alternative Conservatives will remain and will get my vote.
Plus global increases in prices is hardly the fault of Boris and co

It'll make a difference if there's one less Tory in the house. As I said, I'm in a Lib-Dem Tory marginal, so it is possible.

How could anyone be less credible than the Tories? Johnson lies, lies and lies again. He holds us in contempt. The others at least want to make life better for people.

And no, a global crisis isn't the Tory's fault, but it is the job of government to deal with global crises. And they're fauling dismally.

Labour have been hopeless as an opposition, yes, but they'd be a lot better in poer than this lot

What policies do Labour actually have to deal with this?

Labour policies:

Highlighting how crucial it is to keep energy bills lower in future, Labour have said they would:

- Reduce Britain’s reliance on imported gas by accelerating home-grown renewables and new nuclear

- Make sure 19 million homes are warm and well-insulated, saving households an average of £400 a year on bills

- Regulate the market better, with a pledge to never again let energy companies play fast and loose with the rules

To address the immediate crisis, Labour would bring in fully-funded measures now to reduce the expected price rise in April – saving most households around £200 or more, but targeted extra support to squeezed middle, pensioners and the lowest earners, receiving up to £600 off bills and preventing all of the increase in energy bills currently expected.

They would pay for this with a one-off windfall tax on North Sea Oil and Gas producers who have profited from price rises.

These elections won't change your MP just councillors (one area excepted) but they do serve as a test to how pissed off people are.
