Gas & electric has trebled - surely it's time to vote the Tories out now?

I've been waiting to see how much it'd go up by and the bill's arroved - it's now just under £300 a month. That's more than 10% of my monthly income.

I've had very low gas readings recently as our heating isn't working properly. We just had a cold winter as we couldn't afford to get it fixed, I guess next winter is going to be cold too. This is the UK in the 21st Century, FFS!

What is it going to take for people to vote these fuckers out? They're bleeding us dry and destroying our children's future. And, how many dead under Covid, due to their mismanagement of the crisis? More concerned with giving lucrative contracts to their mates than lives or well being of the general population. Their parties are a symptom of this attitude. We are absolutely not "all in it together".

Does anyone really still think this group of entitled, self-serving, priviledged wankers have our best interests at heart?

My local ward is a Lib Dem-Tory marginal. I don't usually vote Lib Dem, but I will this year in the local elections to get these fuckers out.

Who's joining me for some tactical voting?

You can be concerned about women's refuges, or you can vote Labour/Lib Dem. You cannot do both. Because only the Tories actually recognise women's sex-based rights

this stance would have seemed absolutely ridiculous a few years ago. How things have changed

That isn’t true. This is what Rachel Reeves says:

The Equality Act says that there should be safe spaces for people and so no, it wouldn’t mean those things,” she began, before Newman interrupted: “Then that’s not self-ID… self-ID is someone saying: ‘I am a woman, therefore I’m entitled to all the services that any other woman is entitled to.'”
Reeves continued: “The Equality Act explicitly – and we wouldn’t change that – says that there should be places for people, where necessary, for people of a biological sex”.

LemonDrizzleSlice · 25/04/2022 19:47

If you cannot define a woman, then you cannot, by definition, support women's refuges.

So what have the Tories actually done to promote and protect women's rights in the past 12 years?

Biological sex is pretty unambiguous, is it not?

I'm curious to know how Labour think they can influence supply and demand on the global wholesale market ?

And 'windfall taxes' are not the answer;-

For goodness sake. No one is saying labour is going to magically fix everything, just that in the last 5 years in particular, the Tories have shown moral corruption on a scale that is incredible . I dislike Theresa May intensely and disagree with most of what she believes but when she was Prime Minister I believed she was doing her best for the country. That best might not have been enough but at least she tried

I have never voted Tory always thought until now that Tory politicians mostly believed that their policies were the right ones and for the greater good. I thought they were mistaken but believed most were acting in good faith on their policies most of the time.

I no longer believe that. In fact not only do they not act good faith any more, they don't even care if the electorate think they are acting in good faith. There is zero trust that the Tories are at least trying to improve things even if they get it wrong sometimes or sometimes get a bit power crazy. All that is left now is their naked self interest without any attempt to hide it. It is sickening

You would think. But even having to call it "biological" sex shows you what direction they are going in.

HRTQueen · 25/04/2022 19:56

Not sure they have done anything in particular. The issues is for many that they are not planning to take women’s rights of privacy and dignity away

ilovesooty · 25/04/2022 19:48

They have recognised, out loud, that women are adult human females. These days, that's doing a lot for women's rights.

Let's try again.

What have the Conservatives actually done which has been of real, practical benefit to women, with measurable outcomes in the past 12 years?

They have recognised that women are women, and that we have sex-based rights. They have not said they are "not going down that rabbit hole" when asked to define what a woman is. They have not shirked the question. They have not come out with nonsense word salad in thrall to Stonewall.

There can be no more fundamental real, practical benefit to women than recognising what we are.

Blossomtoes · 25/04/2022 20:04

It’s fuck all. Johnson constantly demonstrates that words are cheap.

ilovesooty · 25/04/2022 20:07

So they haven't done anything with tangible benefits and results that you can identify.
OK then. Perhaps 12 years hasn't been long enough for them.
Some people evidently can't get past a few words they like and acknowledge the damage done since 2010.

I'm not sure how you think a party can support rights for a class they cannot define?

So you believe the serial misogynist, Johnson? Even though he’s never shown any sign of doing anything for women’s rights and women have been raped in hospitals and prisons on his watch? OooooooK.

Of course it's fuck all. You put it better than I did. However there are some people there's no reasoning with. Thank goodness I never come across them in real life.

That should have been serial liar and misogynist.

HRTQueen · 25/04/2022 21:16

its not just about what Johnson has said but it’s what Starmer hasn’t said

The back lash from a few words uttered by Johnson is very significant but Starmer has not budged

And they want to win an election. They absolutely need to get themselves together and strive to win the next election. How this are going at present they simply won’t.

its standard for the opposition to be ahead in the polls mid term (few exceptions)

Why didn’t Starmer seize the moment he didn’t have to drop his support he can still show kindness but he didn’t.

Shouting posters down claiming that all Tory voters are selfish or stupid won’t change things

Labour and their supporters seriously need to look at why the party isn’t further ahead, what they stand for and what they can offer the public. Not being Tory simply isn’t good enough

ilovesooty · 25/04/2022 21:29

So no one can tell us about the positive things the Conservatives have done for women since they were elected. Right then. You want to vote for five more years of this shit. You might just as well own it. I'm sure their ability to define a woman will pay people's heating bills and put food on the table.

And anyone saying they'd rather be cold and hungry - I don't believe they're in danger of that happening to them.

If you don't think that standing up for women against those who would erase us as a class, or insist that we define ourselves in relation to biological men by calling ourselves "cis" women, is positive, then that's your choice.

For me, it is the most positive and fundamental thing a political party could do, in the face of Labour and the Lib Dems who have fully bought into and strengthened the pervading anti-women doctrine.

We'll have to agree to differ. In the context of poverty and people who can't afford the basics to live I don't think it's of prime importance, no. While people are so poor, including children and vulnerable families, I can't put how a woman is defined at the forefront of everything. I don't know anyone in real life who does.

Blossomtoes · 25/04/2022 21:55

Shouting posters down claiming that all Tory voters are selfish or stupid won’t change things

Nobody’s shouting anyone down or claiming Tory voters are selfish or stupid. It’s beyond my comprehension that there are women ignoring the Tories’ track record on women’s rights and pinning their hopes on a throwaway comment by a serial liar. I simply don’t get it. It bewilders me.

ilovesooty · 25/04/2022 22:02

@Blossomtoes I find it incomprehensible as well. A soundbite by someone totally untrustworthy is apparently enough to make them ignore the government's record and trust them for the next five years? Part of me wants Johnson to go and Mordaunt to be elected Conservative leader. Where will they be then with their refrain of "The Conservatives know what a woman is"?

Blossomtoes · 25/04/2022 22:10

@ilovesooty, yup or Caroline Nokes. They’ll be buggered.

User7493268965 · 25/04/2022 22:37

Maybe spend a bit of time checking why your bill has trebled and if it matches up with your actual usage before posting and blaming the government, it could be your energy company. People should spend more time checking their bills are correct instead of posting on here
