Gas & electric has trebled - surely it's time to vote the Tories out now?

cloudcats · 25/04/2022 08:01

I've been waiting to see how much it'd go up by and the bill's arroved - it's now just under £300 a month. That's more than 10% of my monthly income.

I've had very low gas readings recently as our heating isn't working properly. We just had a cold winter as we couldn't afford to get it fixed, I guess next winter is going to be cold too. This is the UK in the 21st Century, FFS!

What is it going to take for people to vote these fuckers out? They're bleeding us dry and destroying our children's future. And, how many dead under Covid, due to their mismanagement of the crisis? More concerned with giving lucrative contracts to their mates than lives or well being of the general population. Their parties are a symptom of this attitude. We are absolutely not "all in it together".

Does anyone really still think this group of entitled, self-serving, priviledged wankers have our best interests at heart?

My local ward is a Lib Dem-Tory marginal. I don't usually vote Lib Dem, but I will this year in the local elections to get these fuckers out.

Who's joining me for some tactical voting?

Maybe spend a bit of time checking why your bill has trebled and if it matches up with your actual usage before posting and blaming the government, it could be your energy company. People should spend more time checking their bills are correct instead of posting on here

I've posted a fucking chart of the bill. It's clear that the cost has gone up.

Also, the price rises have been all over the news, haven't you seen?

Shouting posters down claiming that all Tory voters are selfish or stupid won’t change things

Nobody’s shouting anyone down or claiming Tory voters are selfish or stupid. It’s beyond my comprehension that there are women ignoring the Tories’ track record on women’s rights and pinning their hopes on a throwaway comment by a serial liar. I simply don’t get it. It bewilders me.

Yes, this.

And it's the Tories who raked up the whole Self ID issue in the first place with the GRA consultation anyway.

Although - things are changing on the gender ideology front.

We've made huge strides in standing against gender ideology. The Cass report is significant, as are all the court cases progressing through the system.

We are going to win this, no matter who is in power.

Please don't vote for fuckers like the Tories because Johnson says he knows what a woman is. This is the same prick who said we'd get an extra £350m a week after Brexit and that he didn't go to any parties while thousands of people in this country died alone as their loved ones weren't allowed to visit even for 5 minutes.

He can't be trusted. And, the Tories have a terrible record on women's rights - and human rights in general. If we vote them in again, there's a good chance they're going to tear up the Human Rights Act.

The posters fixated on "At least the Tories know what a woman is" won't let that get in the way of their narrative.

OP you've posted a chart showing 'projected useage'

As several posters have said, plenty of elec/gas companies are overestimating what you MIGHT use over the next 6/12 months to make you pay more upfront.

Your chart doesn't show KWH actual use. Ask them for a chart showing projected kWh use and compare against what you used in the last year.

poshme · 25/04/2022 23:59

And yes, price rises all over the news. Mine have not gone up by nearly as a high a percentage as yours- and many others the same. That's why people are asking about useage in kWh, not projected use in £ from a company that has a vested interest in you paying more

poshme · 26/04/2022 00:02

@cloudcats you should read this www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2022/03/martin-lewis--why-your-energy-bills-might-be-increasing-by-more-/

Particularly after this bit

'If you're in credit and are being asked to pay substantially more than the price cap increase, ask your energy firm why

What that old chestnut? It’s a very old Treasury joke.

Nearly 50 years on, politicians talk of Reginald Maudling, outgoing Tory chancellor in 1964, bumping into Labour successor, Jim Callaghan, a personal friend, as he cleared his desk. "Sorry old cock, to leave it in this shape," he said. Eighteen months later Labour turned a near-hung parliament into a 100-seat majority. Some joke.

Just under £300 a month? You're saying your bill is at least £1000 in ONE quarter?

Have to say mine is nowhere near that per quarter! £400 ish for the first quarter this year is what it cost us and not close to £1000 a quarter.

Basketet · 26/04/2022 05:09

Sadly, there's no credible opposition. What will actually Labour or Lib Dems DO for me?

I'll probably end up voting Green than not vote at all.

Billandben444 · 26/04/2022 06:14

But that is what they'd like you to pay to swell their coffers, that figure has no relevance to your usage. I've set up a spreadsheet with all of the last 2 years gas and electric figures so I can see if my usage is changing and compare bills. I only pay quarterly for what I've actually used from submitted readings, none of this 'give us all your money upfront darlin' until we bankrupt you' malarkey.
It's time consuming to go through all your old bills and set up this spreadsheet but I think the effort is worth it - I've added standing charges and prices as well.

User7493268965 · 26/04/2022 06:16

@cloudcats you haven't posted anything apart from projected usage, that doesn't mean anything, check before you start stamping your feet

poshme · 26/04/2022 06:55

@Billandben444 yes I have similar. I've carefully tracked my useage and kept my payments in line with what I use. (I've found octopus very easy to change DD when needed)

Your " fucking chart" just shows your energy companies projection, not your energy prices which you claim have trebled.

Also, the prices in the news haven't trebled either.

Once again, how much were you paying per kWh and standing charge for gas and electricity and standing charges pre and post price changes?

Why has our energy costs gone up by just over 42% yet yours has gone up 300%?

As the Conservatives are currently the only party who recognise what a woman is then they will be the ones getting my votes.

whilst women can't afford heat, food or housing at least they will be woman.
I can't belive people have fallen for this shit. whose has been in power whilst all this "woman" stuff has happened???????

No, you haven't. You've post a "fucking" chart of your projected usage by the power company, which seems to bear very little comparison with your actual usage.

The next election will be won or lost on the economy. When people can’t afford to heat their homes, feed their kids or put petrol in their cars, “knowing what a woman is” - or saying you do to garner votes - cuts no ice with most people.

No, but they'll be more help for folk on the bread line... remember the Tories accept that their spring statement will lead to 1.3m people going into absolute poverty (mostly women) inc 300k children... they argue that poverty no longer means what it meant in 1822, so all is good.... well what a relief!

Tynesider007 · 28/04/2022 09:20

I don't think the OP is coming back, post after post on Sunday then nothing since then when asked to use facts.

I won't be voting Conservative anyway but threads like this are just daft, I sometimes wonder if it is just a wind up?

MarshaBradyo · 28/04/2022 09:30

ilovesooty · 25/04/2022 22:02

@Blossomtoes I find it incomprehensible as well. A soundbite by someone totally untrustworthy is apparently enough to make them ignore the government's record and trust them for the next five years? Part of me wants Johnson to go and Mordaunt to be elected Conservative leader. Where will they be then with their refrain of "The Conservatives know what a woman is"?

Why do you talk about this so disparagingly?

Some women care about it. You don’t have to. I see posters and their disdain which is constant.

We all react to different issues we find important.

I'm not disputing that people care about different things. What I see as a constant is the total disdain shown by the aggressively GC to those of us who think a wider few of society is more important and their willingness to promote another 5 years of the Tories whatever its effects on the poor and vulnerable. And yes, those women make me angry.
