Gas & electric has trebled - surely it's time to vote the Tories out now?

I've been waiting to see how much it'd go up by and the bill's arroved - it's now just under £300 a month. That's more than 10% of my monthly income.

I've had very low gas readings recently as our heating isn't working properly. We just had a cold winter as we couldn't afford to get it fixed, I guess next winter is going to be cold too. This is the UK in the 21st Century, FFS!

What is it going to take for people to vote these fuckers out? They're bleeding us dry and destroying our children's future. And, how many dead under Covid, due to their mismanagement of the crisis? More concerned with giving lucrative contracts to their mates than lives or well being of the general population. Their parties are a symptom of this attitude. We are absolutely not "all in it together".

Does anyone really still think this group of entitled, self-serving, priviledged wankers have our best interests at heart?

My local ward is a Lib Dem-Tory marginal. I don't usually vote Lib Dem, but I will this year in the local elections to get these fuckers out.

Who's joining me for some tactical voting?

They actively reduced child poverty. The Sure Start centres were a really good innovation, so good that the Tories have just brought them back. Under a different name of course.

Here you go:

The party significantly reduced child poverty and pensioners’ poverty, introduced the national minimum wage, low pay commission, created Sure Start and tax credits. Labour invested in the NHS and schools, created the Human Rights Act and introduced devolution. Under Blair the deficit was maintained at a low rate prior to the financial crash compared to what it is now. We had more teachers and nurses and the welfare system wasn’t the threadbare net it’s been reduced to today

There’s plenty more in the article it’s extracted from.

Years ago if a government was inept and corrupt the electorate would simply vote it out.
And there's no reason why it can't happen at the next GE except that it won't - there are too many people who don't agree with your opinions.

The audit commission closed in 2015 @Gilead. If people do think actual backhanders are being offered then they need to report that to the police as that's a criminal offence.

Police are busy investigating in Liverpool.
Again.
It's always land, isn't it, and planning.

But as you surely actually know, corruption is, and has always been, a feature of local government (and of course national, but we can save that for a different thread) where an effective 'one party rule' is in place - Tory or Labour.

It's why Private Eye manage to keep a long-running column dedicated specially to it: Rotten Boroughs.

I'm well aware, we are paying £244 a month, up from £160. We are high use customers with gas but, especially, electricity - with an average of 18kwh per day. So I expect your electricity usage must be enormous, seeing how your bill is a) significantly larger and b) doesn't include a usual amount of gas.

This still makes no sense. My energy bill was significantly less than yours, before it was nearly trebled by the company.

They've done a handy chart. In one, I've hovered over March to get that data and in the other it's May's data showing.

In March I spent £88 on electric (and £14 on gas as system not working). If your total bill was about double that, I'd imagine you spent similar on electric?

The chart shows the increase is mainly because of them putting their bastard prices up.

Some of my electric bill was for expensive electric heaters (not hottubs, FFS) but not a huge amount as they're expensive so I used them sparingly.

Gas & electric has trebled - surely it's time to vote the Tories out now?

Sorry, I wrote the months wrong!!

It should say:

It's not the Tories making prices go up. The wholesale price of fuel has gone up, partly due to the war in Ukraine. Your annoyance should be directed at that cretin, Putin.

You can be annoyed with more than one thing at once. French energy bills have been held down by Macron, if he can do it why can’t our government?

lickenchugget · 25/04/2022 17:49

When will people stop creating threads telling people how to vote?

No, my annoyance is at the Tories. World crises happen. It's Government's job to deal with them. They're shit at dealing with it.

Agree with you. Unfortunately where I live is a super safe Tory seat (Going back to before the awful Ted Heath). I've never voted Tory and doubt I ever would. I will be voting Lib-dem in an attempt to oust them but I doubt it will make a difference.

My mum had Ted Heath hold her dog outside the polling station, then nipped in and voted Lib Dem. 😂

As the Conservatives are currently the only party who recognise what a woman is then they will be the ones getting my votes.

This. 100 years of women's rights are being binned by Labour so no I won't be voting for them. I'd rather be cold.

We need a viable alternative who can be trusted not to turn into Momentum the second they get into power.

Oh god yes our bills have gone up so much and I literally have no money to pay them I don’t understand this! It’s so stressful

Well that didn't take long.

Perhaps some other people are more concerned about heating, eating and keeping a roof over their heads.

Because prices have gone up, haven't you noticed?!

My bill was about £100 for a 3 bed semi.

I've not changed what I'm using, but the bill has nearly trebled.

And I am using gas - my system needs work but it's not totally off. It means my gas bill was really low, but not non-existent.

Hasn't your bill gone up? What were you paying at the beginning of the year? What's your latest bill, in comparison? I'm with Bulb and the next bill will be the first one that's changed.

Have bulb trebled the prices you pay per unit and daily standing charge?

Our fixed price deal ended in February and we went onto their standard variable rate.

We were on 4p per kWh for gas and 20p per kWh for electricity, now 7p and 27p respectively.

I did the maths and if we repeat last year's usage we will spend 42% extra.

FourTeaFallOut · 25/04/2022 19:14

I think some people were paying as little as 2p per unit of gas on old fixed deals so they really will be feeling the increase on the new variable rate.

FourTeaFallOut · 25/04/2022 19:18

I honestly can't make head nor tail about those picture op. Do you know what your annual usage was in previous years and does it look anything like what they are projecting?

HRTQueen · 25/04/2022 19:19

There are many reasons I don not want the Tories to be in government.

We have a few years until the next election. Labour need to shake themselves up they should be stressed ahead in the polls not a 5/6 points.

In all fairness, all MPs are useless. I'm right leaning but I do not trust one MP. I can't relate to any of them, they're all money grabbing freeloaders. The whole of parliament need emptying & started again.

RiverSkater · 25/04/2022 19:27

The Utilities should never have been privatised. Lots of share holders making money from other peoples misery.

That's the tories for you. Somebody has to be making money out of everything, and if it's one of their own, so much the better.

Alexandra2001 · 25/04/2022 08:25

Lol! yes Bojo can't stop staring at Raynors legs, so clearly recognises what he wants from a woman.

bur seriously, if you vote Tory, then clearly your wealthy enough so things like womens refuges, cost of living and the nhs are of no concern to you.

You can be concerned about women's refuges, or you can vote Labour/Lib Dem. You cannot do both. Because only the Tories actually recognise women's sex-based rights.
