Shameless but do you leave your house open?

When you are in it?

If you leave but other people are in it?

At night? .

All day?

Or is it always locked up right?

The title should be do you leave your house open?

It's always locked as in no one could enter without a key

electrocautery · 18/04/2022 09:19

Locked mostly. Especially at night and when we are away. The only exceptions is that occasionally I leave the front door to the porch unlocked so the postman can leave deliveries in the porch ( but still can't access main house).
Our locks are Yale so they automatically lock unless we put them on the snib

xyzandabc · 18/04/2022 09:19

Lock your house open? As in always locked or always open?

PuppyPowerTool · 18/04/2022 09:20

Front door locks automatically on closing, but the back door lock is broken..must get it fixed!

WreckTangled · 18/04/2022 09:21

I leave my back door unlocked during the day and sometimes leave it open if it's hot. We usually lock it over night but there's been times when dh has left his van and door keys in the front door over night Hmm we're pretty rural, I've not known a break in in the time we've lived here (11 years)

megletthesecond · 18/04/2022 09:21

Front door always locked.

Etinoxaurus · 18/04/2022 09:22

Only at night. And even then sometimes only if the latch if kids still out.
Zone 2 London but I’m more frightened of fire than wronguns

Allthesefolks · 18/04/2022 09:22

Back door is always locked unless we’re in the garden.

Front door is a Yale lock so you can’t get in from outside but it’s only double-locked at night/when we go out.

AchillesPoirot · 18/04/2022 09:23

My front door is always locked. My back door is unlocked during the day but locked at night. My back garden is enclosed and the gate has a padlock.

GodspeedJune · 18/04/2022 09:23

Locked just before going to bed and unlocked first thing so visitors can walk in without knocking. Locked when I go out.

GeneLovesJezebel · 18/04/2022 09:24

Back door always locked unless out there.
Front door only locked when out/at night, although when DH worked away I locked it in the day too.

TheLoupGarou · 18/04/2022 09:24

Open if we are all in,or if the kids are playing and coming in and out, locked if I'm in on my own or at night.

It's very safe where we live. I would have locked up tight when I lived in the city

liquidrevolution · 18/04/2022 09:24

Locked. In summer back door is wide open but qe have a locked side gate.

My parents are rural norfolk so door is unlocked most of the day. Locked eveing and night.

Sickoffamilydrama · 18/04/2022 09:26

Locked at night, but the doors might be open during the day it really depends so if we are all at home on a weekend the front door will usually be unlocked, we have a chime on the door linked to the alarm.
When I'm here alone WFH during the week I lock the front door as I'd never hear if someone came in.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 18/04/2022 09:26

I'll answer the question you should have asked 🙂

Front door is usually locked as it is right on the street, but not always.

Back door is usually open into the courtyard garden, gate in the wall is locked, so the dog can't get out. That back door is open for as many days, evenings as possible. If I pop to the shops or take the dog for a short walk door and gate probably stay open, door pinned back on the hook.

Both locked at night.

Where I used to live both doors would be pinned open for as many days and nights as possible. Locked only when I went to work or shopping. Middle of nowhere, no near neighbours.

Shocking by MN standards, but being out in the sticks isn't the same as living in town or city. When we lived in town we locked the front door all the time, back door unlocked and often open if we were in.

Which is much as we are now, here in a small market town.

Gliblet · 18/04/2022 09:26

We lock up at night, if we all go out, or (front door only) if there's only one adult at home and they're getting in the shower or something. Otherwise the front and back doors are unlocked.

Chatwin · 18/04/2022 09:27

Only lock at night or if we are away overnight. Rural area. Know many people locally who never lock their doors, ever.

watcherintherye · 18/04/2022 09:27

Our doors are generally unlocked during the day, if we are in. We live in the suburban outskirts of a rurally placed small city. If I’m in on my own and having a shower, I’d probably lock the door, or if we’re out in the garden for a prolonged time e.g. having a barbecue, otherwise not, generally. Porch door is always unlocked, except at night.

ComDummings · 18/04/2022 09:27

Always locked. I live in a city and you’d be shocked at the number of times the handles have been tried during the day when most people are at work. When I was on mat leave and then a SAHM it happened once or twice a month and that’s just when I was in to hear it happen. Scumbags just trying their luck. Even if you think you live somewhere safe don’t take any chances.

I should say on the outskirts of a city.
DivaRainbow · 18/04/2022 09:32

My doors are very rarely locked! I live rural in a safe area. Only really lock if we are going away on holidays, Though we do lock the gate at the of the drive at night

Indoorcamping · 18/04/2022 09:36

Front door is always locked as it's the type that locks as you close it. Double locked at night. Back door varies during the day but the back isn't easy to access. High walls & electric roller shutter gate. Always locked at night.

We live in a nice street but close to town & boardering some more sketchy bits.

That said even if we were rural i couldn't go to bed at night with the doors unlocked.

mummymei · 18/04/2022 09:37

Locked at night (if we remember)

Live in a rural market town, so it feels safer as nothing ever happens here. Don't live in one of the big houses to get burgled.

Honourofgrayskull · 18/04/2022 09:37

I keep the doors locked all the time (but I watch too many murder shows where people lurk and just let themselves in through a door that just happens to be unlocked Shock)
