Can I show off my Easter cake? And would anyone like to show me theirs?

19yo DS1 came home from uni wanting to learn how to do lots of different cake-making, icing and sugarcraft, so we've had a fun few weeks, culminating in this Easter cake which we made all the flowers for together Smile

It's a six-layer chocolate cake with whipped milk chocolate ganache filling, dark chocolate ganache coating, and piped sweetened chocolate whipped cream.

Anyone else made an Easter cake they want to post a pic of?

Thanks

suckingonchillidogs · 16/04/2022 17:42

That's so clever, the daffodils look great. Almost too good to eat

CarrieMoonbeams · 16/04/2022 17:42

Nope, no, that doesn't look good at all @Greensleeves, sorry.

Please send it to me and I'll ... ahem .... dispose of it for you.

You're welcome.

DragonOverTheMoon · 16/04/2022 17:43

What a lovely cake!

DreamingOfTowels · 16/04/2022 17:43

Pop the kettle on, I am on my way round

SomeFuckingWizardry · 16/04/2022 17:48

Looks gorgeous!! Is the birds nest piped? Can I ask what piping tip you used for that? I've made some cupcakes and want to pipe the chocolate buttercream to be more nest-like but I don't normally deviate from a star tip so not sure which to use, yours looks fab!!

Bunnybingesoneggs · 16/04/2022 17:50

You do know not a soul will be posting a pic don't you op??
Delicious!!

No, the bird's nest isn't piped, it's good old-fashioned shredded wheat bashed up and mixed with milk chocolate, then pushed into an oiled mini pie dish Grin

We made a load of smaller ones in a muffin pan as well, which DS will be taking back to uni with him. Messy but great fun.

My guess is that the nest is some kind of shredded wheat cereal and chocolate @SomeFuckingWizardry :)

CPL593H · 16/04/2022 17:52

It is really beautiful and sounds delicious, well done to you and DS.

DukeofEarlGrey · 16/04/2022 17:53

Wow OP, that's amazing!

SomeFuckingWizardry · 16/04/2022 17:54

Ah I see, it looks brilliant, so realistic! I will have to do some experimenting with a few different tips this evening.

HermioneWeasley · 16/04/2022 17:55

Great job!

GuineaPigPosie · 16/04/2022 17:57

Absolutely Incredible!! I love that your DS wanted to learn Smile

I'll be over in 5, BTW Grin

FrownedUpon · 16/04/2022 17:57

maddiemookins16mum · 16/04/2022 17:58

Oh how lovely is that.

DukeofEarlGrey · 16/04/2022 17:58

I don't bake so can't post but would like to see pics of other cakes you have made Grin

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/04/2022 18:01

Oh my god that is the cake I dreamed of as a child - a proper gateau, and the 1970s colour scheme and flowers are perfect!

myceliumama · 16/04/2022 18:01

Nowhere near as fancy as your beautiful creation, but I hada spare half hour so I made cheese cakes in the halves of spare Easter eggs. Out the base in first and for that I just ground up rich tea and mashed milks. No butter as I wanted it light. The cheesecake is white chocolate, lemon and raspberry. Really light and fluffy and not too sweet at all.

FrodisCapering · 16/04/2022 18:03

I have no baking skills so I have no cake to show you, op. I absolutely had to say that it looks fabulous though, and I bet it tastes as good as it looks.
