Can I show off my Easter cake? And would anyone like to show me theirs?

19yo DS1 came home from uni wanting to learn how to do lots of different cake-making, icing and sugarcraft, so we've had a fun few weeks, culminating in this Easter cake which we made all the flowers for together Smile

It's a six-layer chocolate cake with whipped milk chocolate ganache filling, dark chocolate ganache coating, and piped sweetened chocolate whipped cream.

Anyone else made an Easter cake they want to post a pic of?

@TheChild

Thank you *@Greensleeves* I was planning to make a chocolate ganache. If I make it tonight and leave it in the fridge overnight will it be too hard to use? Normally when make ganache I'm too impatient to wait for it to set properly and always end up with a sliding mess of a cake 😶

My cakes never taste too bad. Bit like me, look like shit but OK underneath 😂

It will be too hard to pour, but you can zap it in ten second bursts in the microwave, stirring each time, until it's the right consistency again.

For some reason (emotional probably) seeing your cake @Greensleeves made my heart do a little happy flick. ❤️

Oh you lot I'm on a diet !

Op that cake is amazing, the daffodils are my favorite. Is your Ds training to be a chef or doing something creative ?

Please don't send me brownies or blondies ( never had those before) I still have 5kg to go 😂

Evasmissingletter · 16/04/2022 21:31

Not mine, but my SIL’s cake today.

My cakes never seem to rise! Any tips? I’m always meticulous in making sure butter and eggs are at room temperature and weighing everything but they never seem to rise much!

TheLadyDIdGood · 16/04/2022 22:16

@Whyisitsodifficult
I add a small teaspoon of extra baking powder to the self raising flour & that seems to work well. Also, ensure that you seive the flour from at least 30 cms above the bowl to get air in. The more air you get in, the better it rises and don't open the oven door until the end of cooking time.

Add an extra teaspoon of baking powder with the self raising flour to every 2 eggs in the recipe Then as @TheLadyDIdGood said

Bake Off next year OP??

Devushkab · 16/04/2022 22:49

We made mini egg cheesecakes in easter egg halves with grated chocolate sprinked on top for ds to take to work to share. Had to clingfilm them for the journey!

Not so impressive as OPs masterpiece but some birds nest cupcakes and a few somewhat 'rustic' meringue nests ready for filling tomorrow 😋

@Thecatisboss

I made a simnel cake today but DD has decorated it... OK I said it had to have 11 marzipan balls but I definitely didn't say it had to honour the cat!
Love it. A subversive cake. I once made the ‘ scrunch shredded wheats and cover in chocolate” nest cakes when I helped out at a playgroup about 35 years ago. The pinnacle of my baking career.
gumball37 · 17/04/2022 05:09

Made cake pops with my kiddos.

I think I'll do some baking today as we're having a roast so might as well make use of the oven. If successful, highly likely it won't be as beautiful as all the others posted here today my excuse is that the budding migraine is making my vision a bit blurry Grin I will post a photo

Oblomov22 · 17/04/2022 10:18

Amazing. So skilful.

Looks too good to slice in to. Beautiful.
