Because I'm bored :-)

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable. They sacrificed a lot to be together and were very much in the honeymoon phase. Matthew Perry and Paget Brewster actually went to the producers to protest this and asked that instead she reluctantly leaves him to pursue a career elsewhere but they said no.

Joey was the only one who we never see get drunk throughout the whole show.

Ellen DeGeneres was apparently first choice for Phoebe but she turned it down.

Reese Witherspoon never got a cheer when she made her cameo as Rachel's sister... why? She was already pretty famous by that point.

I think we can all agree Brad Pitt's cameo cheer was the loudest! Closely followed by Christina Applegate.

Some of the scenarios were pretty unrealistic. Being divorced 3 times would be seriously upsetting in real life and not something your friends would regularly take the piss out of. Same with being bullied for being fat.

I think Rachel is the Friend who developed / changed the most. She started off as a whining, spoilt brat and ended up as an independent, considerate woman. Probably followed by either Ross from needy to cool or Chandler from being commitment phobic to a family man. I don't think Monica, Joey or Phoebe evolved very much at all. Thoughts?

Chandler and Monica in real life would be a very annoying couple. Both very full on. Janine had it sussed!

Phoebe and Joey would NEVER have been able to afford to live in Manhattan.

Ross and Rachel broke up and within a couple of months Rachel could hear him having sex with Bonnie in the next room at the beach house. In real life this would be absolutely traumatising.

Couldn't stand Emily or Susan and for some reason I feel pretty meh towards Mike. I much preferred David The Science Guy. He was so dryly funny.

Pete took Monica to Italy (or was it France?) for their first date. Even with millions of dollars how was this possible in a few hours?

Janice was perceived to be annoying. But actually other than the awful laugh and a complete inability to read the room... she was bloody lovely and a very good person to have as a friend. She gave good advice and I really liked her.

If Phoebe's brother Frank had been more mature and cut his hair he would have been really fit!

I'll probably think of others. For the record I LOVE the show I just like talking about it to other fans :-)

I like your enthusiasm but I'm too tired to add anything 🙂

DragonOverTheMoon · 15/04/2022 18:55

I really wish Rachel had gone to Paris.

GlitchStitch · 15/04/2022 18:58

I read or saw on a behind the scenes thing that Tom Selleck got the loudest cheers from the audience every time Richard was in it, and that they would have to stop filming and edit out all the screaming.

Joey could afford to live in Manhattan because he sponged off chandler and then actually became pretty successful with Days of our lives - there’s the whole episode where he wants to invest in real estate.

tiredanddangerous · 15/04/2022 19:01

Rachel should have gone to Paris.
Phoebe should have ended up with David.
I didn't like Joeys ending; his story didn't feel finished.

JohannSebastianBach · 15/04/2022 19:02

I was sad that Monica and Richard broke up.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 15/04/2022 19:02

I never got the David-the-scientist love, Mike was way better! (And obvs, Paul Rudd…). Unfortunately I have people over at mine for drinks and dinner tonight, otherwise I’d definitely spend this evening binge-watching some classic Friends!

Thefrenchconnection1 · 15/04/2022 19:03

Has anyone seen the friendsical? Any good?

SickAndTiredAgain · 15/04/2022 19:04

I generally agree she wasn’t as bad as made out. But didn’t she cheat on her husband?

ItsPrettyObvious · 15/04/2022 19:06

Yes agreed Joey was a massive shameless freeloader and as he and Chandler didn't have a childhood friendship I doubt he'd have got away with it in reality. Also LOVED Dreamboat Richard. He was way better suited to Monica

Being divorced 3 times is definitely something I can imagine some friends of mine taking the piss about!

One of my favourite episodes is the One with the video tape - I just love the way the whole episode leads up to that one punchline.

DragonOverTheMoon · 15/04/2022 19:08

I really liked David the scientist guy. I didn'tike Mike. I still love the part where Phebes breaks up with him over wanting marriage. Perfect demonstration of self worth and boundaries.

Itsmemaggie · 15/04/2022 19:08

Also whilst it’s lost it’s edge with many viewings - I remember crying proper tears when I first saw the routine.

Aliceforgot · 15/04/2022 19:09

Loved David.

Loved Richard.

For me, Monica and Chandler, and Rachel and Joey was all wrong.

Rachel should definitely have gone to Paris. Sometimes I think of her, living in Scarsdale, complaining about the taxes.

ENoeuf · 15/04/2022 19:10

We take the piss out of dh for the number of divorces he’s had to be fair. I thought Phoebe was a bit unkind sometimes. My favourite was Rachel.

TooManyAnimals94 · 15/04/2022 19:11

I agree about Janice. I think the way the group treat her is very snobby and mean when she was a much nicer person than all of them and a good girlfriend to Chandler.

I know this is true of all sit coms but I find their working hours so ridiculous. I assume Ross, Chandler and Rachel are pretty much 9-5 but seem to be around all the time, Joey and Phoebe are freelance so perhaps it makes sense that they're in a coffee shop at all hours of the day. But Monica is a chef...what kind of chef gets EVERY thanksgiving, Christmas and (looks like) every evening off?!
I also really liked the sciency boyfriend and I thought the way P treated him was really shitty.
I've only given birth once and only to one baby so I'm no expert but is a natural birth with triplets likely? Wouldn't she have had a c section?
The UFC storyline with Pete was just WTF? And pointless.
I prefer Ross and Rachel as a couple to Monica and Chandler but I think Rachel made a mistake giving up her dream job for Ross...I don't think he would have done the same for her.

ItsPrettyObvious · 15/04/2022 19:13

Phoebe was very spiteful and often threw her friends under the bus for her own amusement. She is my least favourite. Joey was a prick to women but probably the most loyal friend

Regarding Phoebe and Joey affording to live in Manhattan - I think Chandler pretty much bankrolled Joey the entire time. As for Phoebe, I am convinced she did sex work on the side, pretty sure it was alluded to in one episode that she did phone sex work.

Gnr24 · 15/04/2022 19:14

Yes I think Phoebe and David were a much better match.
I hated the storyline when they got Joey and Rachel together, it just didn't work.
Loved Jack and Judy, wish they were on it more.
My favourite character was Ross, which I know is controversial as I see that many people didn't like him. I thought he had some of the funniest storyline.

Joshua's dad is actually Matthew perry's dad.

I wonder if Gunter kept the hairless cat?

DragonOverTheMoon · 15/04/2022 19:21

Rachel and Chandler are my favourites. Joey is lovely but they dumbed him down too much. Monika and Ross do my head in.

ISpyCobraKai · 15/04/2022 19:22

The cat that looks like a hand!
YouLando · 15/04/2022 19:22

I love the scene where Ross plays the bagpipes to the tune of 'Celebrate' by Kool & The Gang, and Phoebe sings along - "ee ee ee ee ee eeee eeee" 🤣 you can see Jennifer Aniston corpsing

Why does the beef trifle have bananas and jam in it?
No trifle I know has them in Confused
