Because I'm bored :-)

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable. They sacrificed a lot to be together and were very much in the honeymoon phase. Matthew Perry and Paget Brewster actually went to the producers to protest this and asked that instead she reluctantly leaves him to pursue a career elsewhere but they said no.

Joey was the only one who we never see get drunk throughout the whole show.

Ellen DeGeneres was apparently first choice for Phoebe but she turned it down.

Reese Witherspoon never got a cheer when she made her cameo as Rachel's sister... why? She was already pretty famous by that point.

I think we can all agree Brad Pitt's cameo cheer was the loudest! Closely followed by Christina Applegate.

Some of the scenarios were pretty unrealistic. Being divorced 3 times would be seriously upsetting in real life and not something your friends would regularly take the piss out of. Same with being bullied for being fat.

I think Rachel is the Friend who developed / changed the most. She started off as a whining, spoilt brat and ended up as an independent, considerate woman. Probably followed by either Ross from needy to cool or Chandler from being commitment phobic to a family man. I don't think Monica, Joey or Phoebe evolved very much at all. Thoughts?

Chandler and Monica in real life would be a very annoying couple. Both very full on. Janine had it sussed!

Phoebe and Joey would NEVER have been able to afford to live in Manhattan.

Ross and Rachel broke up and within a couple of months Rachel could hear him having sex with Bonnie in the next room at the beach house. In real life this would be absolutely traumatising.

Couldn't stand Emily or Susan and for some reason I feel pretty meh towards Mike. I much preferred David The Science Guy. He was so dryly funny.

Pete took Monica to Italy (or was it France?) for their first date. Even with millions of dollars how was this possible in a few hours?

Janice was perceived to be annoying. But actually other than the awful laugh and a complete inability to read the room... she was bloody lovely and a very good person to have as a friend. She gave good advice and I really liked her.

If Phoebe's brother Frank had been more mature and cut his hair he would have been really fit!

I'll probably think of others. For the record I LOVE the show I just like talking about it to other fans :-)

Ross was very annoying, but had some of the funniest scenes - leather trousers - "Joey, it's turned into a paste!" 😂

ItsPrettyObvious · 15/04/2022 19:27

Wow I didn't know that about Josh' Dad!

Judy Geller was vile and the kind of mother who everyone would advise on here to go no contact. Poor Monica, I'd have told her to fuck right off 💔

Weirdly I was thinking something random today and wondered about starting a thread about it Grin

Why did Monica and Rachel apparently share a supply of condoms? When they are playing Rock Paper Scissors to decide who gets the last one? Surely two women living together would each have their own stash?! Hmm

Also the scene where Chandler bounces around wanting to see the "hot girl" and then jumps back to Monica and says "there she is!" you can see Jennifer Aniston putting her head down as she's creased laughing. Fuck me I need to get a life!

I agree Ross was a hilarious character but his behaviour towards women (especially Rachel) was horribly controlling and unhealthy. Rachel was always my favourite character and I agree she developed the most throughout the 10 seasons. I love how she was so mentally OK with taking on life as a single mum. I also like how the show covered different journeys into motherhood, feels quite advanced for a show that started in the 90's.

Absolutely hated Emily, she was definitely my least favourite character and I'm glad she didn't stick around too long.

Generally I think a lot of my love for the show comes from the fact that there is so little technology in their lives. Oh how I'd love to go back to those days when not everyone had a phone in their hand and people got together to socialise.

I've watched friends back to back pretty much on repeat since around 2015 and it's really helped me through some tough times. Hope they never take it off Netflix!

Mangogogogo · 15/04/2022 19:36

As pp mentioned I literally live for the times when you can see the actors wanting to laugh so bad 😂😂

That bit makes no sense I agree. I’ve lived in various house shares and never has there been a shared condom stash in the bathroom. Do they always have to nip across the living room to get one every time they are going to have sex?

I really like the episodes with Tag. I don’t think him and Rachel should have been a couple but I really loved his character.

The one where they’re up all night is one of my favourites.
“Phoebe Buffay?” “Fire alarm?!”

Grammy78 · 15/04/2022 19:56

“Mississippily?” cracks me up.

isitnormaltoforget · 15/04/2022 20:02

The bit that always has me laughing is Ross, Mona and Rachel’s Dad, after Rachel tells her dad she’s pregnant …

‘I love Rachel … but not in that way!’
‘Hey I offered to marry her - but I didn’t WANT to …!’
‘No, no, no! I need to lie down!’

Bearsbearsbears40 · 15/04/2022 20:04

@ItsPrettyObvious 😂😂😂 No I’m making margaritas and flan and dancing along to the ??Chicago soundtrack (with apols if I’ve got the musical reference wrong!)

Goodyetalso · 15/04/2022 20:05

Rachel got drunk in the episode where she wants closure and Monica got drunk before her birthday party. But basically they lived in an alternate universe where nobody in their 20s got drunk.

I’m still annoyed that Richard and Monica didn’t end up together. I never found Chandler and Monica believable as a couple.

Loved Joey although they did over-egg his dumbness the longer the show went on. Found Ross quite creepy - he was a walking red flag.

7eleven · 15/04/2022 20:15

I think the worst story line was putting joey and Rachel together. It just didn’t work.

There’s not many situations in life that I can’t go “It’s like the episode of friends when….”

7eleven · 15/04/2022 20:17

It’s beginning to be a bit dated now, I think. Some of the comments that are made sound inappropriate these days, especially about woman.

AdditionalCharacter · 15/04/2022 20:22

I love Friends. I'm still making Friends references, hardly anyone gets them, makes me feel old.

I hated the last episode, mostly because Rachael should have gone to France.

SilverSplitsTheBlue · 15/04/2022 20:22

So many scenes are comic genius,I couldn't pick a favourite.
Mike and the science guys argument, ending with an invitation to Minsk.

The Routine

The "I LOVE JACQUES COUSTEAU!" scene with Monica and Ross's parents.

The scene when Ross is running from two women he mistook for Phoebe and Rachel. He stops dead when he spots them sat in central perk. Great comic timing.

Same episode, when Ross is trying to get tips on how to attack a woman from the fitness instructor. "So let me get this straight, you want to attack your ex wife?"

Rachel's boss bringing a mediator to their meeting to re confirm that he is NOT trying to buy her baby.

Richard was my all time favourite. When Monica was trying to explain how she made the bed, the top was the sun etc. He went along with it so sweetly. I bet he is lovely in real life. He was my favourite in Three me and a baby too.

AdditionalCharacter · 15/04/2022 20:23

*old because I watched the. All the first time round, when you had to watch weekly and run to the toilet/get a drink during the advert break.

ISpyCobraKai · 15/04/2022 20:36

My favourite character is possibly drunk Monica!
My adult daughter is a bit like that, she rarely drinks, but when she does she's hilarious! Grin

Yes, and there were no spoilers. I went travelling for two years when it was on and stayed in a Hostel. Nobody bothered with TV, except for Friends on a Monday evening.
autienotnaughty · 15/04/2022 20:47

Loved Phoebe and Mike although I preferred Phoebe in the early days.

Loved Ross and Rachel, my favourite episode is the lobster one. Second favourite is the one with Brad Pitt.

I wasn't keen on Monica and chandler but they did work together.

David schwimmer disliked the divorcer jokes he felt Ross wouldn't be happy with that.

It did end nicely with everyone sorted except joey but he had his spin-off does anyone remember the first episode of Joey which had Joey saying "bollocks" as they were trying to make it more adult 😂

Newuser82 · 15/04/2022 21:04

I have just re watched all of friends with my son and what I think is that Joey was the nicest character by far. I can't think of an occasion where he was unkind to any of his friends. He let chandler have Kathy, he proposed to phoebe when she was pregnant. He treated Rachel nicely when they were together. The others often snipe at each other but I didn't see joey do that.

AdditionalCharacter · 15/04/2022 21:07

Joey was the kindest character. Matt LeBlanc seemed like the sweetest person on the reunion show, wiping away tears.

Newuser82 · 15/04/2022 21:10

@AdditionalCharacter he really did seem like a lovely guy.
