Because I'm bored :-)

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable. They sacrificed a lot to be together and were very much in the honeymoon phase. Matthew Perry and Paget Brewster actually went to the producers to protest this and asked that instead she reluctantly leaves him to pursue a career elsewhere but they said no.

Joey was the only one who we never see get drunk throughout the whole show.

Ellen DeGeneres was apparently first choice for Phoebe but she turned it down.

Reese Witherspoon never got a cheer when she made her cameo as Rachel's sister... why? She was already pretty famous by that point.

I think we can all agree Brad Pitt's cameo cheer was the loudest! Closely followed by Christina Applegate.

Some of the scenarios were pretty unrealistic. Being divorced 3 times would be seriously upsetting in real life and not something your friends would regularly take the piss out of. Same with being bullied for being fat.

I think Rachel is the Friend who developed / changed the most. She started off as a whining, spoilt brat and ended up as an independent, considerate woman. Probably followed by either Ross from needy to cool or Chandler from being commitment phobic to a family man. I don't think Monica, Joey or Phoebe evolved very much at all. Thoughts?

Chandler and Monica in real life would be a very annoying couple. Both very full on. Janine had it sussed!

Phoebe and Joey would NEVER have been able to afford to live in Manhattan.

Ross and Rachel broke up and within a couple of months Rachel could hear him having sex with Bonnie in the next room at the beach house. In real life this would be absolutely traumatising.

Couldn't stand Emily or Susan and for some reason I feel pretty meh towards Mike. I much preferred David The Science Guy. He was so dryly funny.

Pete took Monica to Italy (or was it France?) for their first date. Even with millions of dollars how was this possible in a few hours?

Janice was perceived to be annoying. But actually other than the awful laugh and a complete inability to read the room... she was bloody lovely and a very good person to have as a friend. She gave good advice and I really liked her.

If Phoebe's brother Frank had been more mature and cut his hair he would have been really fit!

I'll probably think of others. For the record I LOVE the show I just like talking about it to other fans :-)

Doctor (to Chandler): This isn't your toe, this is a small, very cold piece of carrot.

Rachel (to Monica): You brought a carrot?

Judy: Oh, my God. There's a toe in my kitchen.

Judy Geller is a textbook toxic mother, but for comedic value, she really is the gift that keeps on giving!

HeathenPlayingHouse · 18/04/2022 14:43

@clary No way, I'm a sucker for Picture Perfect. Which was lucky for me at uni, since it was on tv at least once a week lol.

danro · 18/04/2022 14:57

Totally disagree, she’s done some excellent and hugely successful films - Marley & Me, Just Go With It, We’re the Millers and Cake (which shows her in a totally different light).

Meant to be in reply to @clary :)

JA was also great in Dumpling. I like her movies.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 18/04/2022 15:02

OMG, Just Go With It- yes! I adore that film.

I really like her in He's Just Not That Into You as well.

clary · 18/04/2022 15:17

Ok great, I will look again! Actually yy He's not that into you is good. I am a huge JA fan honestly, I think she is a very underrated comic actor and also she is the prettiest of the Friends IMHO. Also she still looks great.

Crinkle77 · 18/04/2022 15:17

My fave is where they all find out about Chandler and Monica. Phoebe and 'my eyes, my eyes' has me in creases every time.

That is also the best gif - where Ross jumps into the circle of joy with Phoebe and Rachel :D

My favourite episode is the one with the Mumma's Little Bakery cheesecake and the one with Brad Pitt, I love that their Hate Rachel gang had them and the overseas kid Ta Taka Ki Kek

Lines that make me laugh after all this time:

-the eyes did still sparkle
-I'm still carrying a little extra holiday weight
-your hair is inexplicable
-the moonlight is bouncing off her head
-it's making a paste
-oh I'm sorry, did my back get in the way of your knife
-they said it was a hate crime
-Joey doesn't share food
-bunch of albino kids? That was science camp!

I also love the whole Emma in the apartment alone monologue.

Jack Geller cracks me up every episode he's in.

Pheobes songs:

Nooow CHICKENS!
Little black curly hair

Justleaveitblankthen · 18/04/2022 16:12

Ah about Phoebe's brother, he was in it very early on as a passer-by who accidentally threw a condom into Phoebe's busking tin Grin
Also was in Saving Private Ryan and yes - fit with a crew cut 😉

100problems · 18/04/2022 17:02

Was Eddie in SPR too?

100problems · 18/04/2022 17:04

Google says yes! Adam Goldberg.

Friends certainly had some pull didn't it?

TeamSpike · 18/04/2022 17:08

I've just started watching criminal minds and couldn't place one of the actresses. It's Paget Brewster (Kathy) she's really good in it

LizBennet · 18/04/2022 17:10

Joey's punchy little girlfriend was Punky Brewster (anyone remember that)

allnewtothisbridetobe · 18/04/2022 17:15

@clary

if we are talking faves, I love The one where no ones ready, one room, almost real time, very clever. I better not do any lunges...you don't go commando in another mans fatigues.. drink the fat....and Rachel's dress
Love this one too ! 'Humous, I've got the Humous' 'It starts at 8 we can't be late' etc 😆😆
Gaspingandleaping · 18/04/2022 17:31

I thought it was Alanis Morisette? Blush
LizBennet · 18/04/2022 17:38

Ha she does have a look of her Grin

DontYouForgetAboutB · 18/04/2022 17:40

"This is Vikrum!"

ChessieFL · 18/04/2022 18:05

My favourite is The One Where They All Find Out.

They don’t know that we know they know we know!

And Phoebe dancing for Chandler. ‘I’m very bendy’.

Cracks me up every time.

Dundonian · 18/04/2022 18:17

All the characters had flaws but I think this is part of what makes them relatable. Watching the show now, we're applying current day standards, too, and it's good to see how attitudes have changed and how we've moved on. After all, it has been nearly 30 years since the first episode.

I loved the show and am about the same age as the characters; I shared a lot of their angst!

My favourite episode was 'The One With The Flashback.' Absolute genius!

Gaspingandleaping · 18/04/2022 19:11

Yes my favourite was the one where they all find out:

PHOEBE: They don't know that we know that they know. Joey - you can't say anything.

JOEY: Couldn't even if I wanted

AuxArmesCitoyens · 18/04/2022 19:30

What I want to know is what happens to Mr Heckles's flat after Rachel and Monica inherit it. Nice bit of real estate, that.

Gaspingandleaping · 18/04/2022 19:46

I don't think they inherited the flat. Just the contents which was all crap? I think it's all rented apartments - that's the reason they could afford to live there - rent control?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 18/04/2022 19:59

Yeah they just inherited all his crap , not the flat
