Because I'm bored :-)

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable. They sacrificed a lot to be together and were very much in the honeymoon phase. Matthew Perry and Paget Brewster actually went to the producers to protest this and asked that instead she reluctantly leaves him to pursue a career elsewhere but they said no.

Joey was the only one who we never see get drunk throughout the whole show.

Ellen DeGeneres was apparently first choice for Phoebe but she turned it down.

Reese Witherspoon never got a cheer when she made her cameo as Rachel's sister... why? She was already pretty famous by that point.

I think we can all agree Brad Pitt's cameo cheer was the loudest! Closely followed by Christina Applegate.

Some of the scenarios were pretty unrealistic. Being divorced 3 times would be seriously upsetting in real life and not something your friends would regularly take the piss out of. Same with being bullied for being fat.

I think Rachel is the Friend who developed / changed the most. She started off as a whining, spoilt brat and ended up as an independent, considerate woman. Probably followed by either Ross from needy to cool or Chandler from being commitment phobic to a family man. I don't think Monica, Joey or Phoebe evolved very much at all. Thoughts?

Chandler and Monica in real life would be a very annoying couple. Both very full on. Janine had it sussed!

Phoebe and Joey would NEVER have been able to afford to live in Manhattan.

Ross and Rachel broke up and within a couple of months Rachel could hear him having sex with Bonnie in the next room at the beach house. In real life this would be absolutely traumatising.

Couldn't stand Emily or Susan and for some reason I feel pretty meh towards Mike. I much preferred David The Science Guy. He was so dryly funny.

Pete took Monica to Italy (or was it France?) for their first date. Even with millions of dollars how was this possible in a few hours?

Janice was perceived to be annoying. But actually other than the awful laugh and a complete inability to read the room... she was bloody lovely and a very good person to have as a friend. She gave good advice and I really liked her.

If Phoebe's brother Frank had been more mature and cut his hair he would have been really fit!

I'll probably think of others. For the record I LOVE the show I just like talking about it to other fans :-)

No..?

I love the episode with Phoebe's boyfriend who never wore underwear. Everyone was hand wringing about it, but Gunther's line ' this is a family establishment, put the mouse back in the house'

😂

Layza101 · 16/04/2022 02:23

Ok, so I absolutely love Friends, I'm even watching it now but here is my 2 pence

If Richard and Jack were best friends how did Richard not know what Monica looked like?

Ross is my favourite character

I hated the way Ross was treated when they were in the Doctors Office when Carol was having a baby and they were discussing names

The Proposal Part 2 and The One with Monica's Thunder, it annoys me how different Chandler is

Hated Mona, Tag and Emily

Hate how Joey had been proper dumbed down by the end

I never understood how some birthdays changed, like when phoebe spent the weekend with her brother, she said her birthday was 16th February, but then when they all go out for dinner for her birthday near the end, she says she couldn't get a table for her birthday and then day she booked it was Halloween

Ross told Gunther his birthday was in December but then said it was 18th October in a later episode

Layza101 · 16/04/2022 02:26

I constantly reference friend's quotes, the best one was when I'm driving and the car in front is in both lanes, so I always said 'pick a lane' and then my boyfriend at the time would automatically come back with 'who's Elaine' haha

My favourite episodes/bits are where Ross is totally fine, and then when Ross does the elaborate lie to Mike about phoebe and vikram Mukherjee. I think DS is the most talented comic actor in the cast. His physicality and sense of timing are spot on.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/04/2022 02:54

This is going to make me sound like a right pounce but never mind. Back when I was cool I went on a private plane between countries. One of which was the States. We were at a small airport and they had special immigration, customs and (I think) some kind of not bringing in drugs and food bloke. They stayed open for us, it took a very short amount of time, waved through basically. No wait in line, no arsing about at all. So it's only really the flight, which from NY is what 7.5 hours on a private jet? Sleep on the plane, eat and come back.

I'm quite boring now.

JaneyJimplin · 16/04/2022 02:54

They characterise joey as being this total stud muffin/player, but you actually rarely see evidence of it.

Graphista · 16/04/2022 04:54

I think we can all agree Brad Pitt's cameo cheer was the loudest! Closely followed by Christina Applegate.

Tom sellecks was apparently SO loud they had to reshoot without the audience!

Phoebe and Joey would NEVER have been able to afford to live in Manhattan.

Joey sponged off chandler, Monica and Rachel

Phoebe lived in her grans apartment so probably similar to Monica's with the rent control thing

Hated Emily loved Susan!

Love Paul Rudd but David was much better suited to phoebe, they shoulda made Mike quirkier

I didn't like Joeys ending; his story didn't feel finished.

Agreed and he was the sweetest too, they shoulda given him a storyline where he falls in love with someone who wasn't super hot and he doesn't get why he's attracted to her at first

I loved Janice me and her woulda got along great even with the laugh (my laugh can be a bit much sometimes)

Being divorced 3 times is definitely something I can imagine some friends of mine taking the piss about!

Ditto but it would be done with MUCH love

But Monica is a chef...what kind of chef gets EVERY thanksgiving, Christmas and (looks like) every evening off?!

I'd also like to know what kinda chef makes quiche at a dinner party and not ahead of time and then makes a casserole to replace them in like 20 mins?! The flavours wouldn't properly develop and any meat wouldn't be cooked!

Graphista · 16/04/2022 04:54

I was genuinely surprised when in the reunion special the writers said they did not see Monica and chandler as a potential successful couple! I thought it had been planned from pretty early on there seemed to be foreshadowing from season 1! Not sure I buy that!

Loved Jack and Judy, wish they were on it more.

Me too I loved the parents! Would have loved a flashback with lily buffay at some point as she was the only one we never "met"

I also loved dr green! Rip Ron Leibman (who almost declined the role as he thought he wasn't funny!) Love curmudgeonly characters. Would have loved to see more of joeys parents too.

The on point quote parent wise for me was:

Monica "Boy, I know they say that you can't change your parents. Boy, if you could, I'd want yours" [points to ross]

Cos that's me and my sister! I'm Monica. (In more ways than this too)

I also like how the show covered different journeys into motherhood

I love that too, but I learned recently that in the scene where Rachel "steals" Monica's baby name after just having Emma, Courteney was going through another mc at that point I can't IMAGINE how hard it must have been to film that scene in those circumstances. It also didn't ring true that Ross and Rachel would name their child something so close to Emily!

Graphista · 16/04/2022 04:56

My favourite scenes comedy wise are

Chandler falling through the door (and I'm not a slapstick fan but it was so well done)

Any of the scenes where it's a ton of revelations in a short period of time -

1 chandler has 3 nipples, Monica's knickers are on the telephone pole and Phoebe ate a cheeseburger

2 Monica Ross and chandler - Ross at Disneyland visiting a town a little south of vomitville!

3 the trifle episode "that's a lot of information to get in 30 seconds"

I've seriously had conversations like this with my friends! There was a large but close group of us in high school and the stuff we know about each other! Blush

I think it's why we're still friends - the others have too much dirt on us Grin

My favourite character is possibly drunk Monica!

Do you mean "Monana" ?

Yes, and there were no spoilers.

Oh yes! I remember watching the one in Vegas with a friend (both our husbands were deployed at the time) and our jaws literally dropped and my friend even dropped her plate she was eating off at Ross and Rachel coming out the wedding chapel.

I also remember watching the one with chandler proposing cos he was sorry with ex and my ex sitting next to me going "ohhhh no no no no no dude bad idea! Way way too soon"

One of my fav moments is when phoebe meets Brad Pitt
"Hi. Wow! looks up well done"

Yep loved that

Chandler was my favourite friend and I really liked how he became when he was with Monica.

The speech he gives to Erica to persuade her to choose them to adopt her child! Best scene EVER!

@PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn love your post at 2300 ish

but Gunther's line ' this is a family establishment, put the mouse back in the house'

Great line! Delivered so well in an understated way

Rip James Michael Tyler

@MrsTerryPratchett also Concorde I think was still around then?

Pistepersistence · 16/04/2022 07:35

@Layza101 I’ve said this to myself whilst driving 😂

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 16/04/2022 09:01

@Graphista thank you

Emily got a hard rap I think. She wasn't great but honestly who can blame her for wanting Ross to cut Rachel out of his life after he said her name at the wedding?!

SilverSplitsTheBlue · 16/04/2022 09:02

@TeamSpike

I want to see if I can remember this.

Mom, dad, Ross smoked pot in college.
You are such a tattle tale!
And the postman you got fired. He didn't steal your playboys, Ross did.
Hurricane Gloria didn't break the porch swing, Monica did!
Ross hasn't worked at the museum for a year!
Monica and Chandler are living together!
Ross got married in Vegas and got divorced AGAIN!
I LOVE JAQUES COUSTEAU!
I wasn't supposed to beef in the trifle
I WANNA GOOOO!

That's alot of information to get in 30 seconds

After watching the Friends reunion, I went back to Season One and so far I am on the start of Season Seven.

It is pitch perfect comedy genius. Their comic timing as an ensemble and individually is beyond skilful. They are literally the best at what they do!!

I laugh every night now more or less and I will watch it all over again!!

GellerYeller · 16/04/2022 09:20

Dr Greene and his incredulity...
He's Bobby Bobby?!
Rachel Karen Greene tell me there's a wedding!

GellerYeller · 16/04/2022 09:22

And that classic:
I WAS the pile of coats!
The flashback episodes were genius.

Rosewaterblossom · 16/04/2022 09:25

Monica's kitchen was so small with no work space yet she always managed to cook up big meals for them all. She even managed to make the chocolate treats for her neighbours in that tiny space!

Uafasach · 16/04/2022 09:27

"You were my first kiss with Rachel?!"

"You were my first kiss EVER!"

"What did I marry into!"

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/04/2022 09:36

@Rosewaterblossom

Monica's kitchen was so small with no work space yet she always managed to cook up big meals for them all. She even managed to make the chocolate treats for her neighbours in that tiny space!
And she has undiagnosed OCD yet the whole flat is cluttered like an antique shop.
Phyllis321 · 16/04/2022 09:56

It's none of my business but...please don't name your child Phoebo.

Phyllis321 · 16/04/2022 09:58

I agree that David S was the most talented comic actor. His agonised phone call to Joey about his paste pants are legendary.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 16/04/2022 11:02

Dr Greene and his incredulity...

Grin

You don't have lifers insurance either?
How are you going to run after him with one leg shorter than the other?!

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 16/04/2022 11:03

@Phyllis321

I agree that David S was the most talented comic actor. His agonised phone call to Joey about his paste pants are legendary.
I saw a clip of him performing on stage at school or college and his talent shone out of him then
AHungryCaterpillar · 16/04/2022 11:08

It also didn't ring true that Ross and Rachel would name their child something so close to Emily!

I thought it was just me who found this weird. I find it odd Rachel would have chosen Emma after Emily, I never understood why they picked such a similar name for the baby.

clpsmum · 16/04/2022 11:21

Monica should have ended up with Richard, chandler with Janice and phoebe with david

clpsmum · 16/04/2022 11:21

And don't get me started on the joey Rachel thing 🤢
