whats the stupidist thing you've ever had a social media ban for?

VelvetChairGirl · 10/04/2022 14:24

I have a 24 hour ban on facebook now for saying "you're a dog mate" to a man/woman with a dog avatar, who asked if I was a child because my avatar is a cartoon.

I previously got a ban on facebook for saying "I wish we had a store here" in the comments to a shop advertisement.

Because they, unlike the UK, know better.

CheshireChat · 11/04/2022 14:27

Of course, it's not a universal slur, in my native language fag means beech (tree), cum means how.

Well obviously your entire country should change that.Smile
GreyCarpet · 11/04/2022 15:05

It doesn't matter the context.@acatcalledjohnF-g has the same meaning in any country, you are being disingenuous. There is no context where it's ok. Yes, it did mean meat or sticks or cigarette, but the point is it should be CHANGED now.

I can only assume you're under 25. Possibly 30..?

Because that's the only age group I'm m aware of that currently lacks any critical thinking skills or deviation from ridiculous ideas...

TooManyPJs · 11/04/2022 16:09

@TheFormidableMrsC

I got a 30 day ban for agreeing with my friend that she should kill her husband. It was lighthearted of course. I love them both. FB algorithms had me down as a serial killer 🙄
I had a warning for similarly commenting, when someone was asking about sleeping in separate beds. I said something like my DH snores so we sleep separately, if we didn't do that I'd have killed him by now! I challenged it and it was upheld ffs! Ridiculous.

It annoys me that you aren't allowed to swear on FB now. So infantilising. (Obviously certain groups may have a no swearing rule for good reason).

TooManyPJs · 11/04/2022 16:20

@Shabtipup

I was in a gardening group and we were told to write w33d / w33ds instead of weed because the group kept getting bans for drug related language Grin
I think similar things are happening with the word "Hoe".

Devil's Dyke is causing all sorts of issues!

burstcouch · 11/04/2022 16:35

We say fag where I'm from, that won't be changing anytime soon 🤷🏻‍♀️

TooManyPJs · 11/04/2022 16:37
**@GreyCarpet* It is still deeply offensive to decent people in the UK. Just as the N word is deeply offensive to decent people in the UK. And it's a foodstuff that can be renamed*.
You've just said you are not from the U.K. so how the fuck do you know?

As someone else has pointed out there are many words that are not offensive here but are very offensive in other countries. This is just one of them.

GeidiPrimes · 11/04/2022 16:40

For comparing Elon Musk to a bower bird. Hate speech apparently.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 11/04/2022 16:41

@SirChenjins

I think we can safely assume that the UK isn’t going to stop referring to a type of meatball as ‘faggots’ ((as we’ve been doing for centuries) in the same way other countries aren’t going to stop using words that we might find offensive. I presume faggots aren’t eaten in other countries, so there’s no need to worry - but if someone from outside the UK wants to be shocked by it just as we might be by these www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food/article-2929630/amp/The-rudest-food-names-world-revealed.html then go for it.
I'm astounded that someone is seriously suggesting that faggots should be renamed.
Airfriedpotatowitch · 11/04/2022 16:47

A ban for privately sharing by fb messenger a discount code as it contained nudity.... Women in underwear as it was a voucher for money off underwear at Xmas time

Hate speech indeed.
Deeply offensive to bower birds everywhere.

ElenaSt · 11/04/2022 17:44

I supposed I deserved this one!

whats the stupidist thing you've ever had a social media ban for?
ElenaSt · 11/04/2022 17:47

It was horrible by the way, he had sent me dick pics of what looked like a young teenager. I was surprised they took the profile down as they usually don’t.

VelvetChairGirl · 11/04/2022 19:34

Again, it doesn't matter the meaning. The fact is it is a universal slur with only one meaning outside of the UK.

its not universal tho or you wouldnt be demanding we change its meaning, take your linguistic imperialism elsewhere.

disappointed at the lack of calpis, which is pronounced as cowpiss

or indeed pocari sweat.

I’m pretty sure in Germany it means a bassoon. (I haven’t been banned from social media yet, but maybe for this?)

FrightorFlight · 11/04/2022 21:49

@HailAdrian

I was never banned from Facebook altogether but Britain First banned me from commenting on their posts.
Well done! 👏🏻
WhereHasSpringSprungTo · 11/04/2022 22:06

For replying on my brothers post about a silly thing his ds done.
I said tell 'child' Aunty Spring said hes a silly nugget!
I was bullying!

HoobleDooble · 11/04/2022 22:07

I got a warning for calling myself "a bit of a fatty" in a post. Apparently I may have offended myself 😃

Greensleeves · 11/04/2022 22:10

Got briefly banned on here for making a Monty Python reference. Apparently it was in poor taste and people complained Hmm

MostlyNormalSometimesOdd · 11/04/2022 22:30

Two one week bans from Twitter, months apart, both for using the "C" word in two separate tweets about two different people in the public eye in response to comments they'd made.
Found it odd that a company the size of Twitter haven't ever heard of James Corden or Laurence Fox, but there you go,

MangyInseam · 12/04/2022 02:04

Well I was reprimanded by the Guardian once for pointing out that Romeo and Juliet were under 16 and the socially correct age for marriage wasn't a completely objective custom for all places and times. It was an article about a campaign to raise the age for marriage to 18.

PlasticineMeg · 13/04/2022 15:07

@HangingRock25 couldn’t give a fuck that other countries don’t use the term faggot for a food item, we do, the end. Plenty of terms that would offend English people in other languages, should they stop using those terms too? Or does that not align with your work agenda?

Also LOL at the US knowing better than the UK 🤣

PlasticineMeg · 13/04/2022 15:07

*woke agenda
