Car's been stolen- I know where it is!

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

My car's been nicked. I have a tracker in it and located it at an address about half an hour away. I drove round and it's there!

Tried to start it but I wouldn't recognise my electronic key.

Reported it to 101 but they have said that there is nothing the police can do- I need to get my insurer to collect it and fix whatever has been changed. Currently on hold to the insurer.

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

How can there be nothing the police can do?

Did you report it stolen at some point before you realised where it was?

DarkBlueEyes · 31/03/2022 16:30

The police can't do anything? WTAF? What about calling the RAC etc. Also check the plates - are they the same? If they are it will still show as you the owner on the DVLA website. Do you have a manual key? I'd open it and drive away if at all possible.

No way would I be leaving the car there!

FromOurHatsToOurFeet · 31/03/2022 16:30

Can you shame them on Twitter?

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 31/03/2022 16:30

Wow, well done on locating it and going round. Make sure you're safe and the criminals don't turn up and cause problems. It's annoying that the police won't help.

Vapeyvapevape · 31/03/2022 16:31

Be careful that whoever stole it doesn't turn up ! Thieves don't tend to be very nice.

ProfessorSlocombe · 31/03/2022 16:31

are you a member of the AA/RAC ?

Get the car recovered.

Georgeskitchen · 31/03/2022 16:33

Most local police have a Facebook page. Shame them on there

Redglitter · 31/03/2022 16:34

Id phone back 101. Your cars been stolen. The fact you've found it doesn't make it any less of a crime. You've been given totally wrong information.

EvilPea · 31/03/2022 16:36

WTF you’ve done the job for them??!
There are mobile key reprogrammers who might come out.
Or ring the rac and say it doesn’t recognise your key and won’t start so needs recovering.

EvilPea · 31/03/2022 16:38

I’d be tempted to remove a wheel so they can’t drive it. Or put a steering wheel lock on it

They often park them up to see if they have trackers.

Norgie · 31/03/2022 16:38

My sons car was stolen, it had a tracker on it. He phoned the police, they attended, located the car but then had it taken to their compound for forensics to go over it as it had been used in a criminal activity while stolen.
When mine was stolen, they just took the details of it over the phone and told me to ring my insurers with the crime number. If I remember correctly, they wouldn't activate my claim until seven days had lapsed. That was over twenty years ago.

zafferana · 31/03/2022 16:40

Have you got through to the insurer? I'm shocked that the police won't help. I'm assuming your car is reported stolen?

SalomeNotThatOne · 31/03/2022 16:41

Thanks, everyone. The insurance person I'm speaking to was also surprised they didn't want the car for forensics. Still on hold!

The police don’t want to know??? What crowns do they want to know about these days? 🙄🙄 ridiculous. Hope you get it back !!

Noshowlomo · 31/03/2022 16:52

*crimes

RandomQuest · 31/03/2022 16:56

When this happened to me, the manufacturer support service tracked it and got onto the police, the police then called me approx 20 minutes later and said they had it and to come pick it up. Apparently the done thing with the car thieves is to park it up on the street, go away and come back later to see if it’s being tracked. Do you have a service with the car that you can call?

I can't believe the police aren't interested in helping you that's shocking

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 31/03/2022 17:01

I've read that the police are pretty active where people tie ribbons (in suffragette colours) on lamp-posts.

(Was the car green/white/purple OP? )

SalomeNotThatOne · 31/03/2022 17:07

OK, the insurer is sending someone to get the car and taking it to a garage to get the key thing reset. 0/10 for the Met.

OP posts:
SalomeNotThatOne · 31/03/2022 17:08

My tracker is just an Apple airtag to help me remember where I've parked Grin so not a proper tracking service.

Pluvia · 31/03/2022 17:09

Yes, tie a threatening suffragette ribbon on one of the wing mirrors. The police will be along shortly.

caringcarer · 31/03/2022 17:11

I knew it would be the Met. Other police forces are better.

Pyri · 31/03/2022 17:12

Outrageous OP!

Can you block the car in with your other one while you wait?

Mumoftwoinprimary · 31/03/2022 17:13

They are probably too busy raping and murdering women and strip searching black children to bother with things like stolen cars.
