Car's been stolen- I know where it is!

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

My car's been nicked. I have a tracker in it and located it at an address about half an hour away. I drove round and it's there!

Tried to start it but I wouldn't recognise my electronic key.

Reported it to 101 but they have said that there is nothing the police can do- I need to get my insurer to collect it and fix whatever has been changed. Currently on hold to the insurer.

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

@SalomeNotThatOne

My tracker is just an Apple airtag to help me remember where I've parked Grin so not a proper tracking service.
I’ve got one of these in my car. Much cheaper than a proper tracker and just as reliable.
Nonibaloni · 31/03/2022 17:16

My bag got stolen and my cards used before I could cancel (cause my phone went too). They used it to buy petrol and order stuff online. When I told the police I could tell them when and where they bought petrol so they could find the car and they could track where the deliveries went. They said they wouldn’t know which car it was in the petrol station and deliveries would take too long! My money was returned but they got £300 free and clear! I had no idea it was so easy to be a criminal.

@Mumoftwoinprimary

They are probably too busy raping and murdering women and strip searching black children to bother with things like stolen cars.

Yup def the Met.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 31/03/2022 17:22

I work for an insurance company. I'm not in the slightest bit surprised by it at all. Insurers arrange recovery of tracked vehicles every day (usually with a policyholder blocking the car in). There was a time when it was recorded as a solved crime. Maybe they changed the stats so don't care any more.

TillyTopper · 31/03/2022 17:29

Well done OP. Pretty shocking of the police though!

mummymayhem18 · 31/03/2022 17:33

Wow. Well done you ! I hope they get there to get it before the thief returns.

I never thought the day would come when I was disparaging about the Police, but this, sadly this.
Cyw2018 · 31/03/2022 17:37

Call the police back and tell them you are going round with a few mates to try to tow it away, but aren't sure how the situation might unfold. See if the police react differently to that scenario.

Dinosauria · 31/03/2022 17:40

@LiesDoNotBecomeUs

I've read that the police are pretty active where people tie ribbons (in suffragette colours) on lamp-posts.

(Was the car green/white/purple OP? )

And this
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/03/2022 17:41

This makes literally no sense.

crackofdoom · 31/03/2022 17:42

Looks like the Met haven't improved any since the night 20 years ago I called them in a state to tell them that my van had just screeched out of its parking space under my window in the dead of night and shot off down the Kingsland Road. They couldn't have been less bothered 🙄

BlueOverYellow · 31/03/2022 17:43

That's pretty shocking that the police weren't interested. Around here they raid traveller sites regularly to reclaim stolen caravans, etc. Surely reclaiming a stolen car ... where the work has been done for them! ... is to be expected!

Why on earth do we pay taxes???

PriamFarrl · 31/03/2022 17:43

Are you, or do you know, a black person? Get them to hang around near the car. They’ll be there within 5 minutes.

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2022 17:45

Sadly this has what has become of our police force, it is such a crying shame

PepperamiPrincess · 31/03/2022 17:47

Our cars where stolen, the police handled it very well, came round straight away, sent forensics (there was as a burglary), got cctv from local business, went door to door on our street, run our plates through the APR cameras etc. Then they just vanished!

I found out the burglars had used my credit card to order somethings online, and got hold of the name and delivery address, it all checked out as in that person lived at that address, but nobody did any further investigation - I found it odd as some of the things (not all) where definitely illegal (e.g the signal boxes that make the car start without the key!)

LoisLane66 · 31/03/2022 17:48

Surely if it was stolen, which it was, then police should be notified as it would need to be checked for fingerprints etc. Could have been used in a robbery for all they know.

NdefH81 · 31/03/2022 17:49

@SalomeNotThatOne

OK, the insurer is sending someone to get the car and taking it to a garage to get the key thing reset. 0/10 for the Met.
The insurer is sending someone to a criminals property to get the car?
viques · 31/03/2022 17:50

You could print out a home made POLICE AWARE notice for the windscreen .I suggest wording on the lines of

THIS CAR IS STOLEN.

POLICE AWARE.

SADLY THEY CANT BE ARSED.

Malibuismysecrethome · 31/03/2022 17:50

Sounds about right I know of other cars that have been stolen then found. Never heard of anyone getting nicked. Police just not interested.

DoctorMarten · 31/03/2022 17:51

Tell the police you'll go to the press. What a farce!

tintodeverano2 · 31/03/2022 17:52

Have you got an actual key inside of the fob?

Merryoldgoat · 31/03/2022 17:52

Sweet Jesus I just don’t know what the hell we’re supposed to do anymore.

SpotALeopard · 31/03/2022 17:53

@Noshowlomo

The police don’t want to know??? What crowns do they want to know about these days? 🙄🙄 ridiculous. Hope you get it back !!
I got an answer to this question when someone threatened to burn my house down. According to the fire brigade, who did come around and did treat a threat of arson seriously, the police will come round if you’re actually murdered but not for a lot else. So now we know.
elizabethdraper · 31/03/2022 17:53

Yes the police told me where me car was but told me it was safe for them to get
(Certain ethnic minority campsite)

They told me to go and collect it instead

Called my insurance company told them ot was stolen, did not retrieve it, as I no longer wanted a car with bad bad energy plus I was a single woman walking into a halting site by m6self

Ahhh, the Met. They are busy today training their horses not to jump at the new inclusive LGBTQABSDFKJ+++ crossings which also confuse guide dogs, so are harder to use for blind people
