Car's been stolen- I know where it is!

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

My car's been nicked. I have a tracker in it and located it at an address about half an hour away. I drove round and it's there!

Tried to start it but I wouldn't recognise my electronic key.

Reported it to 101 but they have said that there is nothing the police can do- I need to get my insurer to collect it and fix whatever has been changed. Currently on hold to the insurer.

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

slow hand clap =for the met the most corrupt police force

FiveForAPound · 31/03/2022 20:43

Honestly, I'd have been surprised if the police had been interested. They don't seem to care about any crime at all where I live. If been the victim of a serious crime and a minor one and they couldn't have given a shit about either of them.

SenseFromThoughtDivide · 31/03/2022 20:43

Nothing at all to insert the key into.

Does this video help?

FFS! I’m fuming for you. They are absolutely useless. We had four officers from the MET come to our house who spent over an hour taking a statement from my 11 year old because he got caught throwing an egg at someone’s house on Halloween. FOUR officers, in two separate cars! Two of them returned a week later to give an update on the ‘case’. But they don’t care about a stolen vehicle?! Idiots.

nalabae · 31/03/2022 20:47

No surprise from police. More shocked people expect more of them.

Anyway is it a Range Rover that was stolen? Are you in London?

LuluBlakey1 · 31/03/2022 20:53

The Metropolitan Police are too busy strip searching women and teenage girls, taking photos of dead female murder victims to share with their mates and sending misogynistic, racist, homophobic texts to each other, to deal with stolen cars

Discovery and yes.

@YacaAlpaca ffs! That’s just ridiculous, I had the police at my door for a shunt in a car park (that never happened - long story) and they openly said they were hoping to get an easy driving without a license/insurance and were unimpressed when I told them to leave rather than hang about for a cuppa. Maybe they suspected your son of having an unlicensed chicken or something.

I need more sleep. I read this as ‘my cat’s been stolen’ and was wondering how you tracked the microchip in the cat…

So did I! I just always think of cats.

Apols if someone linked this already but the police are busy with stuff like this. Of course the horses mustn't be uncomfortable - but even I could have told them that would happen.

Keeps happening to the Range Rovers here in Surrey too. My friend managed to chase hers back and drive off with it. I'm sorry the bobby's are rubbish where you are.

mistyoak · 31/03/2022 21:09

Ah the Met will be too busy finding reasons not to prosecute party goers at no.10 when the rest of us couldn’t see dying parents.

No time for catching car thieves!

Are you anywhere near chingford or Woodford.
SalomeNotThatOne · 31/03/2022 21:16

@nalabae I’m not but the car is.

@Notanotherwindow that’s so frightening! You win the thread Shock

Presumably some of this is poorly allocating resources?? And too little money being spent on the Police. Rather than sheer laziness?

OverByYer · 31/03/2022 21:19

@SalomeNotThatOne

OK, the insurer is sending someone to get the car and taking it to a garage to get the key thing reset. 0/10 for the Met.
Ah the Met say no more
Nocutenamesleft · 31/03/2022 21:23

It doesn’t surprise me.

Came home the other day to a stolen. Shunted car that was on fire at the end of my drive!!!

Called 999. Police and fire came and put the fire out

However now it’s just been left…..

Everyday that goes by it gets more and more vandalised end it’s a 70,000 car!!! Brand new.

I rang the police to explain this and they were like. Oh well.

Can’t believe it.

SenseFromThoughtDivide · 31/03/2022 21:31

This is the Broken Window theory of crime in action, little crimes begat bigger crimes as they corrode confidence in the police

Duchess379 · 31/03/2022 21:32

Omg!! I'm a retired Met officer & this is outrageous! I am so sorry that you've been let down like this. I'm not surprised you're fed up.
Can I recommend you get a crook lock - I too have an JLR SUV & unfortunately they are the most desirable vehicles to nick, especially for parts.
Again, I'm sorry we've been shite. But well done for finding your car again. 💙

Email your mp.

Re ring the police. Buy a wheel clamp?

Yes, very true and it seems to be getting worse all the time.
RandomQuest · 31/03/2022 21:37

Snap unfortunately. The police officer that recovered my car recommended a disklok for the steering wheel and a faraday cage key box. So far so good in terms of it hasn’t been stolen again.
Yellownightmare · 31/03/2022 21:37

When my aunt died (she was elderly and had a heart condition so no great surprise) they spent hours hanging around, checking her pills, questioning me suspiciously (I wasn't even there when she died!). Weird they have time for that but no time for actual crimes, and yes, it was the Met.

Malibuismysecrethome · 31/03/2022 21:44

I fitted a crook lock and the thieves bent it! Trying to get it round the steering column. They also left an antenna that they use to locate the signal. Despite giving both items to police for examination I have heard no further from Met Police.
